My previous lawyer dropped my case due to my financial obligation in the middle of Trial. I consulted with Mr. Gold for my divorce case and he was able to work with me on a reasonable fee. Considering my case was up for Trial in 2 weeks, I was shocked he took my case last minute. The day of Trial, he and his paralegal made me feel at ease and put some personal attention to my case. I was able to get 50/50 custody and support and finally after 4 years I was divorced and now living a happy life with my children. Thank you so much Mr. Gold.

I called him for a consultation just before Christmas weekend. I let him know that I would call him if I wanted to schedule an appointment. After the long weekend he sent me multiple texts insulting me about the problem I had asked him about and then proceeded to threaten me for not hiring him as my lawyer. When consulting me he was very unprofessional and even asked if I had a friend I can pin it on. Do not hire him!!! I'm glad I didn't! He is a very sketchy man. Very unprofessional. Very rude. You can tell he just wants your money.

I was on probation with my DUI case and foolishly drove under a suspended license. I am young and cannot afford a lawyer, but afraid to appear in court alone. I met with Mr. Jeffrey Gold and he gave me free consultation. I told him immediately, I don't have much money to work with here but would appreciate any advise you can give me. He went through my paperwork and said you need to do blah blah...and come back to me before your court date, I will help you. I was shocked he took his time to review my case without asking a dime. I came back to him 2 days before my court date and he still remembers me. He kept his word and appeared in court with me and only charge me for his time in court. The Judge greeted Mr. Gold as if she knew him, so my tension calmed a bit. In the end, I was so lucky I was given only 14 hours of community service. I swear i thought I was going to jail.

Unfortunately, I had my case handled through this law office (Jeffrey D. Gold). I contracted the services of this law office, and within two weeks had a meeting with the attorney. It was very clear he did not even bother looking at my case, as he didn't know anything in regards to what was going on. HOWEVER, I was still billed for services (hours of research, and several "phone calls" made on my behalf. It was very clear that my case was not a priority, and was pushed down or delegated to someone else. Getting in contact with this office wasn't easy either. As there was never anyone available to answer questions regarding my case. However, when it came to billing for services, they were very quick to charge. I do not recommend this Law office. Perhaps for smaller cases, but if you are seriously invested in the outcome. I strongly advise choosing another Law office. One that holds itself more accountable to the people they provide services to.

I appreciate the Law Offices of Jeff Gold. I hired my attorney for a reasonable fee and with Jeff Gold's help I was extremely satisfied with the outcome of the case. Jeff Gold has a very efficient staff (his Paralegal Mr. King was especially helpful). The Law Offices of Jeff Gold (and his staff) have taken the time to let me know they care, which has made a positive impact on my life.

I hired Jim McKanna based on the strong recommendation of a close colleague whom had worked with him in the past. I was arrested for a DUI and was terrified to say the least; Jim immediately helped alleviate those fears. Jim was professional and prepared and he was able to answer all of my questions with a confidence earned from years of legal practice and experience. After a few phone calls to the courthouse Jim was able to outline a legal strategy and time-line that would ensure the most favorable possible outcome considering the facts of my case. Jim was with me throughout the entire process, he made himself available at all times to answer questions and to simply put me at ease. Jim was very reasonable and fair with his pricing, but more importantly Jim gave me peace of mind and the confidence to move forward with the legal process. Jim was non-judgmental, tenacious, professional and kind; he helped me to navigate a very difficult time in my life. I give Mr. McKanna the highest of praise and recommend him without hesitation to anyone in need of legal counsel.

My wife and I have come to know Mr. McKanna for the past 10 years as an outstanding attorney and a wonderful person. He helped us on several occasions with legal challenges. Jim is extremely experienced and knowledgeable, yet always accessible and reliable. He works every case, even a simple infraction as it was his own. If you need a highly effective lawyer and a reliable friend, I strongly suggest to give Jim a call.

I give James McKanna my highest personal recommendation. He is an attorney of high character, diligence and skill . I had a slip and fall personal injury matter which was approaching the statute of limitations. I asked Mr. McKanna to review my file to see if I had a case. He immediately went into action, filed a lawsuit and quickly obtained my medical records. Jim was able to negotiate a very good settlement within 3 months of the lawsuit being filed. which I attribute to his high level advocacy and interpersonal demeanor. I would highly recommend Mr. McKanna for any personal injury matter. Future clients will not be disappointed.

I have nothing but good things to say about Robert. He was very straight forward from the get go. He was helpful and walked me through the process and told me what to expect with the process and what he needed from me. He also worked with me on making payments. I met with him initially and only one more time only to wrap up all the paperwork that was to go to the court. After that we just had a conference call-in court date. When you are not a lawyer yourself, it is very helpful that the lawyer you have entrusted to handle your BK provides all the information about what to expect. Knowing this is so important, since you are being recorded by the court trustee. I had no stress the day we had our conference call and there were no surprises. I would highly recommend him as an attorney of choice. No games, no extra costs outside of what is quoted and down to earth and approachable. Thanks so much Robert!! Cindy Glenna

I called this office and left a message for BK information. I quickly received a callback from Attorney Rob Taylor. He was kind, professional, knowledgeable, and happy to help me by answering all of my questions. If you’re considering a great attorney for assistance in filing for bankruptcy, he’s my go to choice of all of the local attorneys in my area! And believe me, I did research on quite a few. Highly recommended!!

Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Huntington Beach, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
