Willam Haywood sometime ago has rented a room from my 95-year-old grandma. We did not know it at the time, but William is a drunk that likes to get overly intoxicated and become belligerent with the caregivers that live in the home to take care of my 95 year-old grandma, since the time that he has been there, it has been an ongoing fight from broken windows to him going in and out all hours of the night slamming doors, keeping people awake and refusing to pay rent during the Covid pandemic. Bill sat in my grandmother's home for over a year and refused to pay rent and hide behind the system and he claims to be a man. He owes money to everyone and if you do your own research on Google, you will see that he has multiple liens against him for taxes, and some of his license are actually inactive due to lack of payment, which it will tell you on the Google search. Unfortunately, it would not allow me to attach a photo. He is currently in the process of hiding his vehicle due to being worried that it's going to be taken from the IRS for back taxes he is not a good person at all, and is all I can say to anyone that might hopefully read this review. Please do your research before hiring this person, thank you all and have a great day.

I had to make a few calls to find a lawyer who takes my civil case. While Bill doesn't work on the type of case I was seeking help for either, he was, after 6-7 calls, the only one that actually spent a few minutes to hear about my case so he could guide me the right way, and he did! He seems very knowledgable. We had a nice chat and I asked him for a link to his review page so I could leave him a review after he was so kind enough to help me, despite knowing my case doesn't make him a dollar. Every call before him took 10 seconds and I was told "sorry, we dont take these cases". no time wasted! Bye! Many lawyers are motivated by the financial part of their job only. Few lawyers actually care about helping, and Bill is one of them. I highly recommend him, and if I need help in the future, I know who to call. Again, thanks Bill!!!

I hired Bill off of a craig's list ad claiming he could send a demand letter for $150.00 After insisting upon upfront payment ONLY in a money order (a bit suspicious) he began dragging his feet for weeks. It should have been a simple letter probably less than 1/2 hour of work - my demands were clear and obvious Instead he actually had the gall to write that I was "the least of his priorities right now" and that he simply had better things to do. I understand attorney's are busy and tried to be patient but my landlord/tenant issue was time sensitive. After waiting weeks I insisted he either send something in writing or simply return the materials to me. Then came quite a few angry emails that were, quite frankly, absolutely juvenile. It's hard to believe this person is a lawyer. I have filed an official complaint with Calbar.org. Would definitely not recomment this attorney.

A while back I found myself in an unexpected legal battle. I found Bill online, and reached out to him. I was so impressed how swiftly he dealt with my issue, and calmed me down, relived not only the stress that evolved from the matter, but beat the opposing side, won, and kept me posted every step of the way. Bill is a lawyer who really cares, he is firm, tuff, and has the dna of a superb attorney!

Bill was very knowledgeable and straight forward. He was honest and conscientious, working around the clock to get the job done. He made me feel like I was his most important client which I know for a fact, I wasn't! He kept me informed and well advised. Bill was aggressive when necessary and pushed the right buttons to get the other side to respond in my favor. A trustworthy attorney is an attorney worth keeping for a lifetime!!! Thanks Bill for all of your hard work and excellent effort!!! I recommend Bill Heywood without a doubt!!!

I hired Jim McKanna based on the strong recommendation of a close colleague whom had worked with him in the past. I was arrested for a DUI and was terrified to say the least; Jim immediately helped alleviate those fears. Jim was professional and prepared and he was able to answer all of my questions with a confidence earned from years of legal practice and experience. After a few phone calls to the courthouse Jim was able to outline a legal strategy and time-line that would ensure the most favorable possible outcome considering the facts of my case. Jim was with me throughout the entire process, he made himself available at all times to answer questions and to simply put me at ease. Jim was very reasonable and fair with his pricing, but more importantly Jim gave me peace of mind and the confidence to move forward with the legal process. Jim was non-judgmental, tenacious, professional and kind; he helped me to navigate a very difficult time in my life. I give Mr. McKanna the highest of praise and recommend him without hesitation to anyone in need of legal counsel.

My wife and I have come to know Mr. McKanna for the past 10 years as an outstanding attorney and a wonderful person. He helped us on several occasions with legal challenges. Jim is extremely experienced and knowledgeable, yet always accessible and reliable. He works every case, even a simple infraction as it was his own. If you need a highly effective lawyer and a reliable friend, I strongly suggest to give Jim a call.

I give James McKanna my highest personal recommendation. He is an attorney of high character, diligence and skill . I had a slip and fall personal injury matter which was approaching the statute of limitations. I asked Mr. McKanna to review my file to see if I had a case. He immediately went into action, filed a lawsuit and quickly obtained my medical records. Jim was able to negotiate a very good settlement within 3 months of the lawsuit being filed. which I attribute to his high level advocacy and interpersonal demeanor. I would highly recommend Mr. McKanna for any personal injury matter. Future clients will not be disappointed.

I have nothing but good things to say about Robert. He was very straight forward from the get go. He was helpful and walked me through the process and told me what to expect with the process and what he needed from me. He also worked with me on making payments. I met with him initially and only one more time only to wrap up all the paperwork that was to go to the court. After that we just had a conference call-in court date. When you are not a lawyer yourself, it is very helpful that the lawyer you have entrusted to handle your BK provides all the information about what to expect. Knowing this is so important, since you are being recorded by the court trustee. I had no stress the day we had our conference call and there were no surprises. I would highly recommend him as an attorney of choice. No games, no extra costs outside of what is quoted and down to earth and approachable. Thanks so much Robert!! Cindy Glenna

I called this office and left a message for BK information. I quickly received a callback from Attorney Rob Taylor. He was kind, professional, knowledgeable, and happy to help me by answering all of my questions. If you’re considering a great attorney for assistance in filing for bankruptcy, he’s my go to choice of all of the local attorneys in my area! And believe me, I did research on quite a few. Highly recommended!!

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Huntington Beach, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
