She will ruin your life if she decides she likes the other parent better than you. I paid for her and she has turned two healthy children into basket cases. You can't get her removed once she is on your case. Make sure your the parent she likes. I have paid an attorney a lot of money to defend me against her. My ex is pro per. He doesn't even need to get one. He has Carol to lie for him. Watch out. She ruined my life and my reputation. She spoke to me for ten minutes two years ago. She let's the other parent sit on interviews to influence the children. My children tired to remove her and she won't let them. I have no words. She will lie and lie just because she can.

When first appointed by the Courts for my child, we were worried that Mrs. Adams was not going to have enough time to be thorough with the case. We were so wrong! She indeed has taken up an incredible amount of hours to ensure all facts and information was taken in account. She has taken time out of her personal life to fly across country to Georgia for investigation in this interstate case. She visited both parents home, interviewed several individuals, compiled hours of information and put it in reports, talked to us to get an insight of what was best for the child, her client. She has been a true resounding voice for the minor. Mrs. Adams was impartial, honest, remained non biased, and genuinely there to report facts with the child in mind, not the wants of the either parent. With the case still over, she has continued to check in on her client, and even give talks to him. She has the respect of the child and speaks with him in a manor to where he can understand and feels important. Mrs. Adams has been a blessing, and does not know it. Our child really feels like he had a voice and say in court because of Mrs. Adams.I appreciate her patience and time with this and completely value her opinion. Thank you for not treating our child like a number, but more like a real person with a voice.

It was truly a blessing to have Carol, step in and help us thru a very difficult time, when emotionally I was at my worse and I didn't think I was strong enough to move forward, she helped keep me together and focused on the bigger picture.

My husband and I first hired Carol in March 2013. She was recommended to us by previous attorney who said that she was very knowledgeable, very good at what she does and very reasonable in price. So naturally I gave her a call! I thank God every day that I did. We were in the middle of a nasty custody arrangement for my stepson and were desperately trying to get him into a safe and loving environment. Immediately Carol and her team flew into motion without hesitation. The transition was so smooth from one attorney to another. When the time came for our custody trial Carol came with her game face on ready to fight like hell. In the end we received the outcome we had worked so hard for! Carol not only fought for us with class but she never once had to lie. The fighting ended in January 2014 and to this day Carol and her team still ask how we are doing and keep in contact with us. They have always been very professional and very caring. Carol is one of those rare attorneys who ultimately care about the outcome of the family and the best interest of the child. Anyone looking for a family law attorney, LOOK NO FURTHER, you have found the one you want! She is AMAZING!

Extremely knowledgeable, a deep sense of professionalism and a solid understanding of her clients needs are just a few of the characteristic which describe Ms. Burch. Two years ago Ms. Burch successfully negotiated a positive resolution to what could have been a costly contract/agreement dispute. Recently we had the opportunity to hire Ms. Burch for a commercial real estate transaction. We were so glad we hired her to review the purchase agreement as she pointed out several contract interpretation issues and other complexities that might have been outside the realm of comfort of a real estate agent. In the end her attention to detail saved us a significant about of money.

Negotiating and settling a lawsuit can be very intense and stressful. But truthfully, I am grateful for being referred to Renell. She is professional and highly skilled in negotiating and taking a case through the court system. She was a great advocate for me, she listened and was able to turn what I thought was going to be a long court battle into a settlement for my company. Since my lawsuit I have called Renell and she has continued to counsel and advise me when business related issues arise. Renell is the only lawyer I trust to handle my affairs. I highly recommend her and her office.

Ms. Burch enforced an oral contract for me and negotiated an out-of-court settlement. While opposing counsel(s) caused many unnecessary twists and turns, numerous delays and refusals to cooperate in depositions, Ms. Burch maintained a high level of integrity and never stooped to the tactics of other attorneys. I believe this resulted in a high level of respect from judges and mediators associated with my case, thus helping to support a fair out-of-court settlement. On a personal note, Ms. Burch always treated me with a high level of respect, always kept me well informed and built a unique relationship with me as part of her legal team in my case. Ms. Burch worked hard on my case. She was truly concerned about my welfare.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Indian Wells, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
