The gentleman who recommended Mr. Brian Mullen to me shared how Mr. Mullen successfully resolved his case expeditiously. According to his feedback, Mr. Mullen found simplified and effective ways to reach a good resolution for his matter, which meant minimal legal fees to this individual. This feedback spoke volumes to me. Like many, I was concerned about the cost of representation and finding a trustworthy lawyer. I am so happy that Mr. Mullen lived up to the expectations I had, which was a good lawyer with honest fees. From the initial meeting, Mr. Mullen was an unmitigated professional. He listened to the details of my matter and offered his expertise on how we could resolve my issue. My case was atypical and we faced complications during the process that were beyond our control. Yet, Mr. Mullen kept finding solutions to every challenge we faced and we finally prevailed as a result of his expertise and steadfast persistence. Getting the outcome I specifically hoped for by itself was a great victory. This victory was heightened when I found a competent and skillful representative with honest fees in Mr. Brian Mullen. I am smiling from ear-to-ear. Thank you also to Cheryl and Nuha, who were part of the winning team.

I rarely write reviews because they are normally not warranted. In this case, I feel I need to share my experience of over 6 years working with Wilkinson and Finkbeiner law firm, specifically with attorney Brian Mullen and his para legals and secretaries on many family law matters. He has diligently guided me through several family law issues ranging from questions on the my original divorce settlement, child custody issues to child support issues etc. Brian's calm demeanor and excellent knowledge of the law has saved me time and money, however best of all positive results. His abilities have enabled me to stay in my daughter's life and fulfill my responsibilities of being a dad which I cherish and enjoy. He understands the emotional issues that come along with family law matters and fought hard for me using his legal knowledge and his staff. I always felt comfortable that they were on top of every issue. He always took time to listen to my goals and planned accordingly with great legal advice at a reasonable price to get to my goals. I am more that pleased , I am grateful for all this firm and especially Brian has done for myself and family. I highly recommend this firm and especially Brian Mullen.

I must say I’m definitely glad to have found Andrew and Brian from this firm to help me. They are awesome guys! They took the time to truly understand the inner kinks in my case and analyzed my case from every angle, not just telling me what I wanted to hear. They took the time to explain to me my options instead of pressuring me into taking a position that I would end up regretting. I must say this office is a well-oiled machine! They do things quickly and efficiently without sacrificing detail. The staff was also pretty awesome! Especially Cheryl! She was very helpful and was able to hone me in on the details that were very important in my case. They never went a few days without updating me as to new occurrences and kept me in the loop at all times which I loved! I can’t say I have any complaints about my experience with them. I would highly recommend this firm to anyone who needs family law help. There should be more attorneys like them out there. 🙂

I am the court appointed guardian for a relative going through a divorce in California. I heard many times that it is not easy to fight a case from out of state. The judge overseeing the guardianship called this divorce case very complicated. If it weren't for Brian Mullen this case might not have been brought to a successful and long lasting conclusion. I finally arrived at Wilkinson & Finkbeiner after I had become very frustrated with the first lawyer handling the case. I had my first consultation with Brian several month before actually retaining him. He was ready, immediately, when I had to respond to a 24 hour notice ex-parte request after the previous lawyer had decided that he could not continue his representation any longer. After a several months long search, Brian had been recomended by another lawyer in San Diego. She had known him from the time they worked in San Diego county. I had asked her about someone she could recommend in Orange County to be able to handle the specifics of the divorce case. Brian Mullen has met all my expectations, especially after we had to come up with new strategies to bring the case to a successful conclusion. A key ingredient was to maintain a working relationship and build trust with the opponent in the case. The opponent had faced more than a hundred thousand dollars in legal bills from his former lawyer, a law office that is being described as a billing machine. As a result of that effort, I had to have legal counsel to respond to several frivolous requests which eventually were turned down by the court. After the initial battle finally all the facts in the case had come in due to the very knowledgeable paralegal Cheryl's effort and Brian's understanding of the legal process and specifics of the case. She and Brian were very resourceful. They had been able to explain to me every step on the way, enabled me to make informed decisions and fully understand the court process. They successfully prepared me for two weeks of court sessions and testifying on the witness stand, enabled me to negotiate with the opponent to bring home the points that could be settled out of court and only continue to litigate the issues in question. At every step Brian had been conscious of the expense we needed to incur to provide efficient representation of my ward's position. Brian recommended competent expert witnesses with whom he cooperated well. We succeeded in a sense that the court's decision was fair and based on complete information. I can highly recommend Brian to anyone who appreciates his somewhat quiet and problem oriented attitude. He does not make any promises that he can't keep and follows through successfully. He can successfully stand up to the top earners in the divorce business when he can rely on the merits of the case. I have a similar expectations of Andrew, but he was only involved in the case on one court date when he had filled in.

I’m going to be honest here…I already interviewed about 10 other attorneys before I met with Andrew and Brian. Although I already made up my mind before I met with them, I figured more information couldn’t hurt. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of knowledge they had. I was so surprised that I decided to hire them. It was the best choice I ever made. The way they cared for and handled my case made me feel like I was a part of their family. It definitely showed in the quality of their work. The entire staff working with Andrew and Brian was very pleasant especially Cheryl. Cheryl: Thank you for caring about my case so much and empathizing with me! They never made any moves in my case without consulting me first which I definitely appreciated. If you want lawyers who show that they genuinely care about you, look no further than Andrew and Brian’s office! I would recommend them to all my friends and family!!

Mr. Miller handled a business litigation case for my family. There was a lot on the line financially for us. Adam was professional in every way. He helped calm our fears about the lawsuit and would answer and return our phone calls immediately. He had a solid strategy and was victorious in the end. We had already come to terms with a certain amount of money we would be out, but in the end, we weren't out any money and Adam's fees were very reasonable.

We needed a real estate attorney to help us work ourselves through a fairly complicated real estate deal that involved a properties purchase, modifying the existing property lines to new locations, placing deed restrictions on the remaining land to be sold and finally, a sale of the residual property to our new neighbors. Alex was pretty much a best case scenario. He was enthusiastic, forward thinking and finally, very reasonable with his billings. We are completely satisfied with our dealings with him, and recommend him without hesitation.

I suffered a dog bite that could have ended much worse than it did and left me with a scar. I had no insurance at the time and ended up with costly ER bills. I contacted John as I had no idea how to handle this complicated situation on my own. From day one, John was empathetic and reassuring that he'd do his best to help find a proper resolution. From my experience, I can tell he genuinely cares about the well-being of his clients. He was always ready to answer calls and kept me up to date during very complicated times. We recently wrapped up the situation and he was able to reach a resolution that we were both comfortable with. I really can't recommend John enough. If you ever find yourself in such an unfavorable situation as I did, reach out to John.

My wife suffered a traumatic incident in which a neighbor's pit bull dog killed our dog while she was on a walk and pushing our 1 year old in a stroller. We later came to learn that the pit bull dog had attacked another family that same day causing serious injuries. It was truly a horrific time for us not knowing if or how we could ever recover from this event. With John's help, we were able to pursue and ultimately reach a settlement with the homeowner's insurance company for our loss and suffering. John also helped me get the word out to the community, joining me at a neighborhood meeting that was organized to address concerns with dog attacks in the area. John is a true professional. He knows the law and he understands the process by which matters such as ours are resolved. This was tremendously valuable to us. John is honest, diligent, and forthcoming with his opinions yet maintains a steady and remarkable composure when dealing with a case. I am truly grateful that we found John to help us out.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Irvine, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
