Mr. Weinberg was nothing but respectful and clear when it came to my case. He helped me understand everything about it and without him I don’t know what I would have done. Hiring him was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Bill and his staff are outstanding and my family and I highly recommend his practice. During a traumatic time in our lives, his understanding of our situation and his kindness was a Godsend. He goes out of his way to ensure the best defense. Clients are continuously informed and communication is easy. Cathy is very knowledgeable of all aspects of your case and never fails to provide you with much needed information. Bill's knowledge and recommendations for other services in the Orange County area was extremely helpful. His professionalism and expertise are exceptional. We could not have asked for more. We are so very grateful and appreciative and thank you so very, very much, Bill and Cathy!

Bill has been my criminal attorney for a year and a half now.  I was arrested, bailed out and called Bill's office more than a year ago.  Cathy answered the phone and I was distraught.  I did something out of desperation which added to an already mile long list of white collard felonies.  Cathy was a bundle of information and put me at ease upon my release.  I retained Bill to watch my case and nothing was filed for 6 months.  Just when I thought I was safe, Bill called me to advise me the D.A. filed.  He really did watch the progress of my investigation.  Every other month I went to court for over a year and watched Bill maneuver my case through the system to get the right D.A., to put me in the right spot light, to request time for this document or that document....I went to counseling, I got doctor notes, I got supportive letters from my employer, my family members...anything he asked to do - I did!  He said have faith.  Putting your life in someone else's hands is the hardest thing to do.  But, I did.  And I could not be more thankful, grateful and happy.  Bill and Cathy are amazing.  The best!  When anyone I know or any loved one I know needs any legal help - I will always recommend William Weinberg.  He is the Best!

I am very happy with his professionalism, communication and ability to deliver on his word. Cathy, his office manager, was also lovely and very organized. Highly recommend his services.

I never thought that I would ever be in need of a defense attorney, until I found myself in dire circumstances related to a DUI. In retrospect, I was lucky to have found Mr. Weinberg on my search. During the consultation, our family let Mr. Weinberg know that we didn't have a single clue of what to do in a situation like this; he was tremendously gracious in explaining to us the entire process, as well as answering any questions we had. He treated us respectfully, with kindness, and I think the part that I treasured the most from the consultation was the fact that he made us feel we were in good hands. Being young at the time, he also told me something that definitely stuck with me even after all these years: "don't let these things discourage you from achieving your dreams". He became a big inspiration for me to move on with my life after the whole ordeal. Regarding the entire process, Mr. Weinberg and his assistant Cathy (who was just as awesome and personable as Mr. Weinberg) laid out the framework for us plainly, letting us know exactly what I was expected to do, and kept in contact throughout the entire process. He made all court appearances, and guided us through all of my court-mandated duties. Years later, I contacted him for possible expungement of my case. Cathy was the one who corresponded with me primarily with this as the process was simpler for expungement, but the professionalism and standard of practice was exactly the same. Mr. Weinberg even followed up with me after the successful expungement, to see how I was doing! All in all, my family and I were very lucky to have found Mr. Weinberg. He and Cathy helped us through a very stressful situation, and I am sure that we are part of a very large group that share those sentiments.

Mr. Miller handled a business litigation case for my family. There was a lot on the line financially for us. Adam was professional in every way. He helped calm our fears about the lawsuit and would answer and return our phone calls immediately. He had a solid strategy and was victorious in the end. We had already come to terms with a certain amount of money we would be out, but in the end, we weren't out any money and Adam's fees were very reasonable.

We needed a real estate attorney to help us work ourselves through a fairly complicated real estate deal that involved a properties purchase, modifying the existing property lines to new locations, placing deed restrictions on the remaining land to be sold and finally, a sale of the residual property to our new neighbors. Alex was pretty much a best case scenario. He was enthusiastic, forward thinking and finally, very reasonable with his billings. We are completely satisfied with our dealings with him, and recommend him without hesitation.

I suffered a dog bite that could have ended much worse than it did and left me with a scar. I had no insurance at the time and ended up with costly ER bills. I contacted John as I had no idea how to handle this complicated situation on my own. From day one, John was empathetic and reassuring that he'd do his best to help find a proper resolution. From my experience, I can tell he genuinely cares about the well-being of his clients. He was always ready to answer calls and kept me up to date during very complicated times. We recently wrapped up the situation and he was able to reach a resolution that we were both comfortable with. I really can't recommend John enough. If you ever find yourself in such an unfavorable situation as I did, reach out to John.

My wife suffered a traumatic incident in which a neighbor's pit bull dog killed our dog while she was on a walk and pushing our 1 year old in a stroller. We later came to learn that the pit bull dog had attacked another family that same day causing serious injuries. It was truly a horrific time for us not knowing if or how we could ever recover from this event. With John's help, we were able to pursue and ultimately reach a settlement with the homeowner's insurance company for our loss and suffering. John also helped me get the word out to the community, joining me at a neighborhood meeting that was organized to address concerns with dog attacks in the area. John is a true professional. He knows the law and he understands the process by which matters such as ours are resolved. This was tremendously valuable to us. John is honest, diligent, and forthcoming with his opinions yet maintains a steady and remarkable composure when dealing with a case. I am truly grateful that we found John to help us out.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Irvine, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
