I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the incredible support and expertise provided by Stacy Boyer at the Hills Law Group. Going through a divorce is not easy, very emotional and is costly, but she made the process as smooth and manageable as possible. From the very beginning, she showed a deep understanding of my unique situation and provided clear, compassionate guidance. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and relentless dedication to my case gave me immense confidence and peace of mind during this challenging time. What stood out most was her ability to communicate complex legal matters in a way that was easy to understand. She was always available to answer my questions, no matter how small, and kept me informed every step of the way. She made me feel she was always on top of my case. Her strategic approach and thorough preparation were evident in every interaction, ultimately leading to a favorable outcome for me and my two children. During this mind-boggling process, Stacy provided invaluable emotional guidance, teaching me when to control my emotions and be fact-based, and when to express my feelings. Navigating this balance is not easy AT ALL, but her clarity on when and how to act was instrumental in managing the process, and in the end, getting a favorable outcome for my divorce. If you are facing the difficult journey of divorce, I highly recommend Stacy. Her exceptional legal expertise, coupled with her genuine care and support, make her the best choice for anyone needing a strong, reliable advocate during such a critical time. Thank you Stacy for your outstanding work and unwavering commitment to my complex case. You have truly made a positive difference in my life...

Stacy has every quality you’d want in a great lawyer. She’s authentic, compassionate, a great listener and she also tough when necessary. She is incredibly trust worthy and never once made me feel judge, insecure or anxious at all. I would recommend Stacy to anyone needing a family law attorney. She’s incredibly knowledgeable and the one or two times she didn’t have an immediate answer, she did everything she could to get me the appropriate answer to my question. Don’t sleep on Stacy! Retain her.

I worked with Maxwell on a web related project. What I learned about Maxwell is that he shows a lot of class and cares about each and every client. He's easy to talk to, knows what he is talking about and all around great to work with. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for an attorney to review a family law case of any kind in Irvine.

Hill’s Law group is the absolute best place to go for people who will truly fight for you and have your best interests in mind during a divorce, especially a messy and difficult one. Stacy Boyer represented me with such a wide range of knowledge about the law, all the inner workings of the divorce process, all while being compassionate about my situation and needs. She always kept me well informed, was prompt with her replies and any and all of our paperwork. She always explained everything so I knew what was happing every step of the way. I would recommend this firm 1000 times over if you are going through a divorce or any kind of family law issues. Stacy Boyer made me feel like I was her only client with her focus and impeccable communication, though I know she has other clients. If you’re looking for an educated, compassionate, no non sense attorney who will fight for you, Stacy Boyer is the absolute best. Hill’s Law Firm is definitely the number one choice for me and for anyone who reeds legal counsel!

Mr. Miller handled a business litigation case for my family. There was a lot on the line financially for us. Adam was professional in every way. He helped calm our fears about the lawsuit and would answer and return our phone calls immediately. He had a solid strategy and was victorious in the end. We had already come to terms with a certain amount of money we would be out, but in the end, we weren't out any money and Adam's fees were very reasonable.

We needed a real estate attorney to help us work ourselves through a fairly complicated real estate deal that involved a properties purchase, modifying the existing property lines to new locations, placing deed restrictions on the remaining land to be sold and finally, a sale of the residual property to our new neighbors. Alex was pretty much a best case scenario. He was enthusiastic, forward thinking and finally, very reasonable with his billings. We are completely satisfied with our dealings with him, and recommend him without hesitation.

I suffered a dog bite that could have ended much worse than it did and left me with a scar. I had no insurance at the time and ended up with costly ER bills. I contacted John as I had no idea how to handle this complicated situation on my own. From day one, John was empathetic and reassuring that he'd do his best to help find a proper resolution. From my experience, I can tell he genuinely cares about the well-being of his clients. He was always ready to answer calls and kept me up to date during very complicated times. We recently wrapped up the situation and he was able to reach a resolution that we were both comfortable with. I really can't recommend John enough. If you ever find yourself in such an unfavorable situation as I did, reach out to John.

My wife suffered a traumatic incident in which a neighbor's pit bull dog killed our dog while she was on a walk and pushing our 1 year old in a stroller. We later came to learn that the pit bull dog had attacked another family that same day causing serious injuries. It was truly a horrific time for us not knowing if or how we could ever recover from this event. With John's help, we were able to pursue and ultimately reach a settlement with the homeowner's insurance company for our loss and suffering. John also helped me get the word out to the community, joining me at a neighborhood meeting that was organized to address concerns with dog attacks in the area. John is a true professional. He knows the law and he understands the process by which matters such as ours are resolved. This was tremendously valuable to us. John is honest, diligent, and forthcoming with his opinions yet maintains a steady and remarkable composure when dealing with a case. I am truly grateful that we found John to help us out.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Irvine, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
