Tina Locklear represented me in a wrongful termination case. Tina is an amazing lawyer that was very attentive to my every question. She listened to me explain my situation and then gave me my options. I was given two options on how to pay. I was also given a 10% prompt pay discount when paying my bill, which is a great savings. Tina laid out, step by step, how the case would most likely be played out. She included a time frame for each step of the case and the cost associated with each step. She thoroughly explained the process to me and she answered every single one of my questions in a timely manner. I am extremely happy with the settlement that I was awarded and it is due to the hard work of Tina Locklear and her staff. I highly recommend her.

If I could give this law firm 100 gold stars I would! It’s never pleasant when you find yourself in need of legal counsel, and I put it off for that very fear. I found myself in an awful and abusive business partnership that I tried to resolve on my own. My biggest regret was not contacting Kelli Farrell at the Locklear Law Firm sooner. Right from the beginning I was at ease and relieved. The entire team, Tina, Kelli, Kat and Scott, work fluidly and concisely with each other and me. They truly care and went above and beyond in the pursuit of justice. I did not feel like a “client”. I felt like family and part of the team. The body of work they composed and the creativity they used to get a resolution was astounding. In fact, the Judge on my case stated the same and used the word “stellar” in describing their ethic and work. Justice was definitely served, and I’m forever grateful.

I had a very positive experience with Tina Locklear and her Law Firm. I hired her to represent me for a Federal EEO case. My case was a non-selection racial discrimination case. I was told by other reputable law firms that I had only a 2 percent chance of wining the case. Most law firms wouldn’t touch my case. However, after I contacted her law firm and explained everything regarding my case, they agreed to represent me. The federal agency which I brought the discrimination case against made it clear that under no circumstances would they settle my case. Tina’s experience, legal maneuvers and tenacity are second to none. As we began to prepare for the hearing, the Agency buckled under the weight of the strength of my case. They were desperate to settle the case. Tina and her associate attorney, Kelli Farrell negotiated a fair settlement for me. I am happy with their services. Tina and Kelli were both ethical and professional yet personable throughout the entire process. It was clear that they truly cared about getting the best resolution possible for me. They are attorneys that will fight for you even when the odds are against you.

I hired Tina Locklear and her law firm for a simple wrongful termination and whistle blower case and it costed me over $110,000. She initially told me that she would do contingency and so many other cheaper ways but went on to charge me over $110,000 and I ended up with only headaches and loss of income from my next job due to her neglect and incompetence. It is the regret of my life to have hired her and I am writing just a portion of my terrible experience with her so that it be used as a warning to everyone else to stay away from this person and her law firm. I don't wish her on anyone even my enemies. Simply put she ruined my life. I filed several claims with the state bar of California against her and the other attorneys that work at her law firm. First and foremost she offered me (in writing) that she would give me 15% discount for paying her on time. I paid every bill no matter how massive it was, and I paid them right away. She then told me that she "forgot" to take the 15% discount and when I asked her to give me that money back, she went on to say that she actually made a mistake and she never offers 15% discount... This is the type of person this lawyer is. She billed and took money from my credit card for things that she never did and it was obvious that she never did those work because at the mediation of the case, she and her team were utterly useless and me and my husband had to literally sit there and google stuff up!! While we paid her over $110,000 for our case. Our experience with her was that she never worked toward our interest, she was only interested in making money no matter how she made it. She over billed us and underdelivered. THE WORSE part was that the opposing side that we were suing, filed a complaint against me and they had informed attorney Tina about this yet she FIALED to tell us that. She never ever told us that the other side filed a major complaint against me to a professional licensing board and went on to settle our case with them without telling me this crucial information. Well several months later, I found out and confronted her but she declined to do anything about it. Another unethical thing she did was to take money out of our trust account knowing that I have a dispute with her and that I did not agree with the charges she billed but nonetheless she took money without my authorization and said so in an email. All of this is just a tiny example of what a terrible attorney this law firm is. I strongly urge everyone to look elsewhere when hiring an attorney. I filed several claims against her and her team with the State Bar of California and I will follow up with them to make sure that this attorney is held accountable for her unethical and incompetent practices.

After doing online searches of Orange County attorneys who focus on this area of law and reading about them, I interviewed three regarding our construction problem. It was very clear that Tina was by far the most knowledgeable. Tina explained to us how strong our case was and why, explained all our options, and at our request settled the case so we could quickly put this behind us and move on. We had an extremely difficult defendant, yet she managed to negotiate a settlement that we are happy with, which we hadn't thought anyone could do. She and her staff are also all very nice and were quick to return our emails and calls. We highly recommend her.

Mr. Miller handled a business litigation case for my family. There was a lot on the line financially for us. Adam was professional in every way. He helped calm our fears about the lawsuit and would answer and return our phone calls immediately. He had a solid strategy and was victorious in the end. We had already come to terms with a certain amount of money we would be out, but in the end, we weren't out any money and Adam's fees were very reasonable.

We needed a real estate attorney to help us work ourselves through a fairly complicated real estate deal that involved a properties purchase, modifying the existing property lines to new locations, placing deed restrictions on the remaining land to be sold and finally, a sale of the residual property to our new neighbors. Alex was pretty much a best case scenario. He was enthusiastic, forward thinking and finally, very reasonable with his billings. We are completely satisfied with our dealings with him, and recommend him without hesitation.

I suffered a dog bite that could have ended much worse than it did and left me with a scar. I had no insurance at the time and ended up with costly ER bills. I contacted John as I had no idea how to handle this complicated situation on my own. From day one, John was empathetic and reassuring that he'd do his best to help find a proper resolution. From my experience, I can tell he genuinely cares about the well-being of his clients. He was always ready to answer calls and kept me up to date during very complicated times. We recently wrapped up the situation and he was able to reach a resolution that we were both comfortable with. I really can't recommend John enough. If you ever find yourself in such an unfavorable situation as I did, reach out to John.

My wife suffered a traumatic incident in which a neighbor's pit bull dog killed our dog while she was on a walk and pushing our 1 year old in a stroller. We later came to learn that the pit bull dog had attacked another family that same day causing serious injuries. It was truly a horrific time for us not knowing if or how we could ever recover from this event. With John's help, we were able to pursue and ultimately reach a settlement with the homeowner's insurance company for our loss and suffering. John also helped me get the word out to the community, joining me at a neighborhood meeting that was organized to address concerns with dog attacks in the area. John is a true professional. He knows the law and he understands the process by which matters such as ours are resolved. This was tremendously valuable to us. John is honest, diligent, and forthcoming with his opinions yet maintains a steady and remarkable composure when dealing with a case. I am truly grateful that we found John to help us out.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Irvine, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
