Mr. Comer has set a brand new experience for me in my 6+ years dealing with attorneys! I felt confused and intimidated facing the decision whether to accept my uninsured motorist claim settlement. I am really grateful Mr. Comer took the time to talk and email me with all my questions and concerns. With his help, I was able to make a decision with a peace of mind. His help during the critical decision making process was such a blessings and a comforting and pleasant experiences compared with my previous experiences with any attorneys! Thank you, Mr. Comer!

My name is David W. Klasing, I’m an attorney and a CPA and consider myself a scary judge of talent. Roy Comer is a very talented attorney and even more importantly he is ethical, honest, trustworthy and has adhered to the strictest confidentiality in an issue that I referred my own mother to him over. My mother was injured by her best friend when she lost control of her car while in the act of taking my mother to the emergency ward with symptoms of an impending heart attack. My mother was seriously injured and this placed her deeper into an existing financial crisis. She did not want to sue her best friend but her circumstances left her no choice. The family was placing tremendous pressure on her to do just that. She approached me and requested that I find her an attorney that would limit the law suit solely to the amount her best friend’s insurance would pay and would not go after all of her best friend’s assets. After some extensive research I referred her to Roy Comer. Roy did just that and as a result my mother has received the maximum award under her friends insurance and her best friend, who was done driving anyway, was not hurt in the process. Because of Roy, her friendship, that she cherishes so much, has survived the law suit and continued to flourish and she is in a much better financial position which has taken pressure off of my whole family. I highly recommend Roy Comer as a Personal Injury and civil litigation attorney and one hell of a decent human being. Thank you from the Klasing family Roy!

I was rear ended and had severe personal injuries. Roy was very diligent putting the case together and always talked or e-mailed me about the next steps we should take or do. It always was my decision what to do, but Roy always explained everything to me and outlined the pros and cons about the decision I had made. I always will recommend him as I was very impressed with the peronal and professional approach he handled my case. For someone, who is not familiar with the legal system he is a great asset, as he will take the time to explain it understandable. Roy will stay on my list of best choice of a lawyer. I had the best outcome I could have asked for and will recommend him to friends, family and others who are in need of a great and knowledgable representation. Thank you again Roy !

I had an unsure feeling as to what to expect especially having been in several depositions but never being the topic of the proceeding before Roy laid out his anticipated process and went through the steps by the numbers giving me a better insight. I was able to sucsefully navigate the questions posed by the other attorney not once feeling ambushed or fearful of my own honesty. Roy's confidence and professionalism were of a very high standard

Mr. Miller handled a business litigation case for my family. There was a lot on the line financially for us. Adam was professional in every way. He helped calm our fears about the lawsuit and would answer and return our phone calls immediately. He had a solid strategy and was victorious in the end. We had already come to terms with a certain amount of money we would be out, but in the end, we weren't out any money and Adam's fees were very reasonable.

We needed a real estate attorney to help us work ourselves through a fairly complicated real estate deal that involved a properties purchase, modifying the existing property lines to new locations, placing deed restrictions on the remaining land to be sold and finally, a sale of the residual property to our new neighbors. Alex was pretty much a best case scenario. He was enthusiastic, forward thinking and finally, very reasonable with his billings. We are completely satisfied with our dealings with him, and recommend him without hesitation.

I suffered a dog bite that could have ended much worse than it did and left me with a scar. I had no insurance at the time and ended up with costly ER bills. I contacted John as I had no idea how to handle this complicated situation on my own. From day one, John was empathetic and reassuring that he'd do his best to help find a proper resolution. From my experience, I can tell he genuinely cares about the well-being of his clients. He was always ready to answer calls and kept me up to date during very complicated times. We recently wrapped up the situation and he was able to reach a resolution that we were both comfortable with. I really can't recommend John enough. If you ever find yourself in such an unfavorable situation as I did, reach out to John.

My wife suffered a traumatic incident in which a neighbor's pit bull dog killed our dog while she was on a walk and pushing our 1 year old in a stroller. We later came to learn that the pit bull dog had attacked another family that same day causing serious injuries. It was truly a horrific time for us not knowing if or how we could ever recover from this event. With John's help, we were able to pursue and ultimately reach a settlement with the homeowner's insurance company for our loss and suffering. John also helped me get the word out to the community, joining me at a neighborhood meeting that was organized to address concerns with dog attacks in the area. John is a true professional. He knows the law and he understands the process by which matters such as ours are resolved. This was tremendously valuable to us. John is honest, diligent, and forthcoming with his opinions yet maintains a steady and remarkable composure when dealing with a case. I am truly grateful that we found John to help us out.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Irvine, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
