The help i received from them goes beyond words. Mindie in particular took her time to listen to me and made sure to take care of me and my concerns. She went above and beyond for me, and I’m so grateful!

The very best thing that happened in my case was finding Mr. Erik Jenkins and his team at Jenkins Law Firm APC. Mr. Jenkins’ knowledge base and abilities are bar none. He demonstrates this at court and in every interaction you share with him. Mr. Jenkins presence alone speaks volumes when you meet with him. He listens, retains what you share with him, and then feeds back concise powerful wisdom and legal facts with certainty and sincerity. As a result, after each time I speak with him, I have clarity, I learn something new, and walk away with confidence about the path we’re on. Before I found Mr. Jenkins, I’d been through two terrible experiences with previous Attorneys. Both of those lackluster experiences left me in a situation that was dire and in a state of disarray. Mr. Jenkins immediately grasped the injustice I was facing and with fervor he told me he knew he could turn things around and win. Mr. Jenkins made me feel like I was part of his family under his wing of protection and that meant everything to me. I knew I was no longer alone, and I knew someone who was strong was there to help. He is one of the special legal professionals who can prognosticate and deliver an outcome, and the reason he’s able to do that is because he’s a skilled, heavily experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated legal tactician. Following that initial meeting, he and his team began working aggressively to undo the damage caused by the previous two law firms and to set myself and our children on the course for justice. Erik’s Associate Attorney Ms. April Hu committed herself to my case right away and fought for my children and I against a very difficult and contentious opposing counsel. She didn’t back down and stood toe to toe against them, as they repeatedly launched one parental alienating attack after the next at me and my children. She led and won impactful Court Hearings for me, wrote strong legal pleadings, and got things prepared for an important case-impacting Trial. Going through this difficult experience was a lot easier on me because of Ms. Hu’s help and care. I am grateful for her dedication. Ms. Danielle Lawson is Mr. Jenkins’ skilled and powerful Paralegal. She is knowledgeable, caring, and dedicated. Danielle cared deeply about the injustice happening to my children and I and dedicated herself to exposing the lies and harm that had been created. She brings many years of legal knowledge (even more than some Attorneys have) and a fighting spirit to her work. Danielle was always there for me whenever I needed an answer or to clarify things. She also brings a special personable touch that makes interacting with her welcoming and smooth. Danielle is wonderful! Ronnie Baier was the very first person I spoke with at Jenkins Law Firm. Ronnie is easy to speak with. I can’t say enough about that trait, because when you are a client facing incredibly stressful circumstances, such as a high-conflict divorce with extremely high conflict personalities, it means a lot to speak with someone who is personable and makes communication light and easy. After I explained my situation to Ronnie, he spoke with confidence about Mr. Jenkins and Jenkins Law Firm’s ability to help me. Ronnie is another great part of the Jenkins Team. Mamie and Yvonne are also amazing. They are kind and caring people who are there to help you with whatever you need at any time. Thank you Mamie and Yvonne!! Overall, I cannot speak enough accolades about Mr. Jenkins and his entire team who are caring, sincere, dedicated and learned professionals who Win for you! Their work and success on my case has made all the difference, and at present they are still helping me to achieve additional justice for my children and I. Having Mr. Jenkins and his team as part of your family of defense and protection will be the best thing that can happen for you and your family’s future. Trust me, because I’ve experienced it.

In all my years I have never met a person who is so gifted at her job. Regina is an amazing attorney who makes her clients feel like friends. Obviously I can not speak regarding my case but Regina knocked it out of the ballpark for me and left nothing but a smile on my face. If you are looking for someone whose professional, knowledgeable, exceptional, and just down right good person than she is who you want...no let me rephrase, need.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of La Jolla, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
