Over a year ago I wrote a previous review I pasted below. I felt compelled today to revisit that review as how relationships playout over the long haul is what really matters in who you choose to represent you in life's most important matters. There is not anything I would change in my first review and in fact I would add the following additional context. I am still in the midst of the legal matter I initiated with Steven and he has stayed the course through various ups and downs always stay true to give his best in my interest and do all he can to maximizes my investment in him. I have had to partner and get advice from other law firms over the course of this very complicated multi-state matter and by far Steven and SD Biz Law are my preferred firm over all others in the attention, support and value they provide me. This is without question in working with over 6 firms on this matter, and the only other firm that I have found valuable was one he sought out on his own on my behalf to aid us. Steven is the attorney you want on your side period. 1 Year ago- "There are very few people who 100% do what they say, Steven Riznyk is beyond that. I have never met someone I trust more to fight for my interest in my life. He's what he says he is and backs it up on every interaction and mater he engages in. This man is the attorney you want for you, your family and anyone you care about as he we care for them the same way you do."

I heavily appreciated the effectiveness, approachability, empathy, and the level of research and care taken in my case with Mr. Steven Riznyk and all the other wonderful supporting staff who assisted with my case. From the get-go, communication was stellar and I felt that I was heard and assisted in my questions and needs. Great care was taken to assure understanding through every part of the process. Mr. Riznyk’s passion for his craft shined through in his execution, guidance, and time taken to go above and beyond in reaching the best possible outcomes and solutions. His written statements and presentation are well-crafted and put his clients at ease. His love for truth, justice and assuring fair process thus assure that the right outcome is reached. You’re in no safer hands than with Mr. Riznyk and his team at BizLaw.

We spoke to a few different labor attorneys before speaking with Steven Riznik at San Diego Biz Law. Steven immediately calmed our nerves after being named in a labor code violation complaint class action lawsuit. Steven took the time to understand our case where much of his initial time was complimentary. Steven and his firm did an excellent job communicating to us on the status of our case and was expeditiously responsive to phone calls and emails. San Diego Biz Law was able to negotiate the release of us as defendants from the suit altogether within 18 days of initial contact with them, saving us thousands of dollars! Steven and his firms 30+ years experience is worth every penny. Thank you again Steven for all of your help in this matter.

Atty Stefano saved my butt from a very sticky situation. I found myself in a situation that was a nightmare, stack on top of a pile of heap of garbage. Stefano calmly walked me though it all and cleared up everything with a magic wand. He listens, he make exact recommendations and he gets the job done. If you are in trouble, San Diego Biz Law is the place to help you out.

Brian prepared me for my FCS mediation, which if you're in San Diego especially, is a critical component of child custody and visitation. Brian went through every last detail of what to expect, what are the do's and don'ts, and how to put my best foot forward in that difficult situation. If it weren't for Brian, I would've felt like I was flying blind walking into the mediation. Absolute 10/10 would recommend. If your existing family law attorney isn't recommending Brian as a consultant, they're doing something wrong!

I was introduced to Steve when he was in-house counsel for a real estate investment firm. Since then I've come to know him personally, as well as hire him to help me with my needs as he's worked in private practice. I'm an independent residential real estate broker and I also purchase and flip a handful of properties each year. Steve made the process of developing solid legal agreements that are easy to understand, inform my investors well, while protecting me very well, extremely easy. He is extraordinarily well-versed in any matters relating to land as well. He understands how to mitigate risk. I consult with him frequently and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him on any variety of real estate matters, and I expect that will continue to be the case. If you value an ethical, honest but serious approach to an attorney representing your real estate interests, I highly recommend Steve Romanoff.

In all my years I have never met a person who is so gifted at her job. Regina is an amazing attorney who makes her clients feel like friends. Obviously I can not speak regarding my case but Regina knocked it out of the ballpark for me and left nothing but a smile on my face. If you are looking for someone whose professional, knowledgeable, exceptional, and just down right good person than she is who you want...no let me rephrase, need.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of La Jolla, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
