My company, a real estate and financial services Inc, has hired James Finigan as in house attorney for many years. Besides possessing impressive legal research skills and writing skills, he is capable of paying great attention to ALL details, exploring issues/solutions beyond the surface of each case, and being extremely committed and concentrating on each case. Due to these extraordinary qualities, he has won many legal cases which were either complexing or seemingly not favoring the clients.

James was fantastic. He worked hard on my case and it showed. When my company was sued (class action) for allegedly violating the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act out of an Arkansas state court, James researched the law and my case and discovered that the plaintiff’s allegations had not investigated their claims at all. Not only did he win the case by filing a Motion to Dismiss (in Arkansas), he sued the plaintiff on my behalf for malicious prosecution and abuse of process. He went above and beyond—and he really cared about my interests. Once you find an attorney like this, you keep him for life! Since that first case, he has handled several other matters for me, and each time, I am more than satisfied, I am grateful!

I have utilized the legal services of Dana Robinson for nearly 15 years. I first worked with Dana as the point of contact for diverse intellectual property matters related to a major casino gaming corporation. Dana was consistently outstanding on matters ranging from basic trademarks to extremely complex gaming loyalty programs. When the company was bought out by a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs, intellectual property matters were a smooth transition based on a great deal of forward thinking on Dana's part. After transitioning to more entrepreneurial pursuits, I have continued to utilize Dana's legal expertise and counsel. What was most surprising to me is that Dana has an extensive entrepreneurial background covering real estate, high tech, apparel, and more. He can tackle legal challenges from a myriad of viewpoints not found in many other lawyers. Through corporate and personal matters, I have found Dana to be highly intelligent, professional, innovative, and engaged. Dana is truly an excellent lawyer.

I've worked with dozens of attorneys, and I've found Dana to be the most approachable on business issues. Meaning, he has the unique perspective of being both an attorney and an experienced entrepreneur and investor. His "both sides of the table" viewpoint provides for unique advice and ultimately saves time and money on the client side.

Incredible lawyer and attorney. My experience with Evan was out of this world. Could not imagine working with anybody else. On a personal level felt like a friend I have known my whole life. On a professional level very doo diligent and efficient, always presented information in an effective way that someone without knowledge of law could understand and grasp clearly. He makes the process of injury go very smoothly and is understanding of the experience you are having that leads you to him emotionally and logically. Presented the facts accordingly and will give you control of a situation that might feel out of control. I am so grateful to have found him and highly recommend to seek Evan out for help and assistance.

Evan was recommended to us by an old friend who knew Evan quite well. We had a large claim against a major insurance company, and Evan navigated the whole process with stellar performance, professionalism, accuracy and, all along the way, with high deference for the laws governing our claim. Now, we join the many who highly recommend the Law Office of Evan W. Walker.

Unfortunately, I had suffered an injury caused by being on the wrong side of a car accident. I had been looking around at major firms to represent me and was either met with automatic replies or days of waiting for a response. Evan Walker had immediately replied with a phone call and listened to my story. He was extremely empathetic and treated me like an actual human instead of a case. During the whole process, Evan was continually checking in on me to update and explain complicated terms and processes in ways that anyone could easily understand. He also checked in on my health as I had been dealing with recovering from this injury and still am. It seemed that was just as important to him as the actual case was. You can tell Evan is not only an attorney but someone who really cares about the people he represents. Ultimately, he helped me reach my desired settlement in a timely manner. I felt extremely comfortable working with him and I honestly could not recommend him enough!

Mr. Ehsan has worked on a number of real estate legal matters on behalf of myself and holding company. He's assisted in a wide variety of real estate matters including loan documents, default proceedings, title research, zoning, trustee sale information, and a host of other issues. His work ethic is tremendous, and his ability to uncover hard to find or know issues (i.e title research) goes above and beyond the traditional services provided. His insights and advice is an important asset that I trust and rely on in business dealings and decisions. I would like to thank Mr. Ehsan for his tireless efforts on my behalf.

No one really enjoys having to work with attorneys, it's usually never concerning anything fun. I have to say though...Ali has helped changed my view of that. He is quick to respond, extremely knowledgable, and looks at situations in a variety of ways that gives me multiple solutions. He maps out all of the options and gives me the pros and cons for each. I have used him numerous times (in regards from divorce questions to purchasing properties to small claims issues) and without fail, he gives me the piece of mind that I have made the right choice. Without a doubt, Ali is extremely bright and knows the law. He is proactive and does his research, all the while, keeping me informed of what actions he is persuing and what we can expect. I never felt that I was out of the loop or uninformed. He has excellent communication skils and answers any and all questions honestly. Ali is the only attorney I will use.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of La Jolla, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
