Pros
1
Personable, easy to communicate with, and highly responsive to clients
“Marlo was personable, easy to talk to, and available when needed. She gave frequent updates and even went beyond expectations in accelerating my sentencing guidelines.”
2
Skilled at negotiating reduced charges and favorable outcomes
“Although the BAC test result came in at nearly twice the legal limit for Driving Under the Influence, Ms. Cordero skillfully obtained a reduced charge of wreckless driving instead of the DUI conviction I was faced with.”
3
Exceptional legal expertise and trial skills
“I soon learned why lawyers from across the country admire him. Although Barry co-authors a text on the topic of DUI defense in California (California Drunk Driving Law), I believe the reason he does so well is due more to his concern about his clients and his ability to communicate in a most persuasive manner.”
4
Dedicated to their clients' best interests and going the extra mile
“He provides his clients the best opportunity to obtain an acquittal by expending the extra effort to be thoroughly prepared and think 'outside the box.'”
5
Highly recommended by former clients
“I have referred Barry to at least two other people dealing with similar situations. If I could give Barry 10 stars I would.”

MR. Barry Simon's typical sales guy who is sitting at his office and showing people how he wrote law books, he got zero respect at court, he don't even show up at court after he will recieve your money , in my situation he don't even bother himself to show me any evidence from DA against me , lies to me on the phone, Julie Swan at that time I hire him start work for him , she is even worse lier them Mr Barry, for 30k I been paying them they done absolutely nothing but keep postponing, zero investigation, never called me about any updates, on the top of it he lies to me I will see him at court on my case. Don't waste your money on scam lawyers, it's 90% of them in OC.

I retained Barry Simons from a referral from a neighbor. After going through a divorce and finding out how horrible and damaging a bad attorney can be, I made sure to interview 6 attorney's for my felony DUI case. After interviewing and meeting with 6 attorney's one being Barry, I realized through talking to them that my case was really bad and that I stand no chance to win my DMV hearing. The other attorney's basically said that going to the DMV hearing would be pointless and that 90% of them are a loss. Barry was the only attorney that pointed out some of the flaws in my case and said that their might be a chance that we can beat the DMV hearing and the refusal charge. I decided to retain Barry and his office for my case. After meeting with Barry and seeing how knowledgeable he is regarding DUI cases and how much work he put into my case I felt very comfortable that I hired the right attorney for the job. Him and I discussed how we should proceed with the DMV hearing and decided that it is best that I go with him and testify. When we left the DMV hearing I was blown away at how amazing of an attorney Barry really is. We received a letter in the mail about 10 days later stating that we WON the DMV hearing! I was in shock and elated. I have referred Barry to at least two other people dealing with similar situations. If I could give Barry 10 stars I would.

I recommend Barry highly. I came to him in tears and in fear of my professional license due to a DUI. Barry was empathetic and gentle as he explained what outcome I could expect and developed a legal defense strategy for me. That strategy worked like a charm! I was facing severe penalties but with Barry's guidance and representation, I received the minimum sentence. His staff was always extremely responsive and professional. His communication was superb and I always knew in advance what was happening in my case and when. Thank you Barry and staff! Well worth the expense and a very grateful client!

Rick has been my Attorney for over 30 years. He has represented me in Labor cases as well as large complex construction cases. He has always handled my cases in the most professional way, Always being conscientious of the Company's resources while never backing down to the threat of trial. This Lawyer cares about people and not her pocket. I spoke with 5 other Attorney's who wanted to charge My wife and I three times the amount for our Trust. Attorney Natalie was very nice and accommodating to my wife schedule. We are very happy with her service and she will be our go-to attorney.

I own a small business with approx. 10 employees. I have had employment law issues which could have been very costly. I consulted with Kristine Karila about the issues my business was facing and she provided excellent advice and had a strategy for me to avoid any lawsuits. I have since consulted with Kristine on numerous occasions regarding my business’ employment law matters since California laws are very strict and constantly changing as well as difficult to know and understand. I highly recommend the Law Office of Kristine Karila. She is efficient, answers calls right away and knows California Employment law extremely well.

I am a 30-year business attorney in southern California. I have known Steve Zwick for 17 years. When I was injured in a car accident, I went to Steve for help. He and his team handled the procedural aspects of my case exceptionally well and he listened carefully to me about the pain I was suffering and the circumstances it caused in my life. He coordinated and directed me to the appropriate medical specialists to not only evaluate my condition, but to identify the specific source of my pain for purposes of long term resolution of it. He quite successfully advocated my right to compensation from all available angles. Steve is a caring person and a tenacious advocate. I trust his integrity, knowledge and experience to the point where I refer my clients who suffer personal injury to Steve for claim evaluation and prosecution.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Laguna Hills, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
