I personally want to take a moment to share my gratitude. The office of Virginia Landry and the entire staff has tremendously helped me. I got my DUI, which was a felony due to the BAC and the fact there was an accident. I was terrified of what the entire outcome would be. As soon as I entered the office, i was treated as family. My stress lessened and I instantly knew that i was in great hands. They thoroughly explained the details of my case and instantly went to work. Apparently, they are very well respected in the court system. They did all the footwork for me. I still know that I made a huge mistake, but with their help, it definitely lessened the blow of what the judge could have and would have laid on me. This took place back in 2011, and with successful completion of all required by probation, they went back to work for me and got it expunged. Which, may not always be the case, but they did it. Now i am able to have this fresh start for my daughter and I. I can now go to school and get into the medical field, or there are so many more opportunities. Thank you all that were a part of this journey and always being so prompt and understanding. Thank you for helping change my life again, but for the best. I appreciate you all!

In July of 2014, as a 22 year old, I was arrested and charged, unjustly, with a DUI. This was my second DUI arrest, which is obviously a potentially serious and definitely stressful, situation for most to encounter. My first DUI arrest was four years prior, in July 2010, which I was later convicted for in February of 2011. I fulfilled all court requirements for that conviction, and learned my lesson thoroughly. My second DUI arrest happened in July 2014 and was not filed against me until December of 2014. I researched various DUI lawyers following my arrest, and consulted with multiple lawyers regarding my case. I decided to hire Virginia's firm after my consultations, and I must say I was fully satisfied with their thoughtful care in handling my case from start to finish. To expand on details in regards to my case, I was charged with a combination DUI, which includes drug impairment in combination with alcohol. The drug I was accused to be impaired by was marijuana, upon which I learned, through Virginia's expertise, that there are two levels of usage detection which are examined. The two levels of usage detection consist of: (1.) inactive marijuana chemical presence, & (2.) active marijuana chemical presence. Inactive chemical presence is considered long-term chemical presence, and does not, by itself, classify a user as currently impaired. Active chemical presence, on the other hand, can classify a marijuana user as "impaired," or "intoxicated." My blood results showed both inactive and active levels of marijuana chemicals, therefore, I was considered to be driving while "intoxicated." My BAC level was just .04, which is under the legal limit to drive, but my active marijuana chemicals in combination with those minimal alcohol levels, were what enabled the prosecution to categorize me as a "DUI." The major issue was that I never actually drove my car, but since I was technically behind the wheel of the car while the engine was running, at the time of the CHP officer's intervention, I was able to be legally classified as the driver of the car. I never intentionally moved the car, I only switched seats from the passenger's seat into the driver's seat, while the initial driver who caused the CHP to follow and stop my car, did the opposite (switched out of the driver's seat and into the passenger's seat). The real, true driver was given a driving citation for driving my car without an active driver's license. Since she was obviously the driver, and I only rode along as passenger, and switched into the driver's seat only after the initial driver's hysterical demand for me to switch seats with her, following our being pulled over, I had an optimistic place to begin my case in court. My lawyer (Virginia) essentially argued that I was never the driver of the vehicle, and took the stance that I was merely "defending my property," which is typically seen as an acceptable defense in court. She filed motions to suppress evidence, which essentially prevents the prosecution from using any evidence against me, that was obtained after we were stopped by the CHP. I was argued to have never been the "driver" of the car, and therefore, I could not have been charged with any driving offenses. Virginia handled all of my court appearances, with exception of the final appearance, in which I was required to appear in front of the judge. In this appearance, the Orange County District Attorney agreed to dismiss my charges altogether. At this point, in June 2015, all my worries disappeared, and I was able to carry on about my life without any worries of legal troubles. I was fully satisfied with Virginia's handling of my case, and highly recommend this experienced attorney to anyone facing DUI charges, or other various criminal charges. She has a wealth of successful experience in the industry, and should be at the top of your list if you're in the market for a defense lawyer.

The Law Offices of Virgina L. Landry is the best. They got me out of jail on what's called the "ScramX" program, which is basically home confinement plus alcohol monitoring, which I believe is going to save my life. I'm 25 years old and got my third D.U.I. From the moment I retained their services, they made me feel comfortable and confident that everything was going to be all right. Given my circumstances this was a massive feat. They answered all my collect calls from jail and went above and beyond what I expected. In the courtroom they fought as hard as they had to to get the best deal for me and they succeeded in doing so. I would still be sitting in jail for a long long time if it weren't for them. My gratitude to them is never ending. Thank you so much.

I contacted many lawyers during my initial research. My issue was a regulatory DMV matter, with which I got responses ranging from no return-calls to quick hang-ups. When I called Virginia Landry, she treated me like I was the most important call of the day. She listened carefully and respectfully, and then gave her straight forward opinion and input on my case. Her knowledge was very impressive and hit on all the points that I was concerned with. I highly recommend calling her.

In late October of 2010 I was pulled over and arrested for a DUI with a BAC of .17 in LA county, around the South Bay. I had also been accused of speeding and swerving beyond the standard DUI codes. Naturally I was terrified and completely overwhelmed by the situation. I did my due diligence and researched several lawyers in both LA and OC who I met with and discussed my case. They all were successful attorneys and very expensive, but something about them didn't feel like a right fit. Finally a friend recommended Virginia's office. He had acquired a DUI charge when he was young and then some time later was pulled over again with another DUI. Unfortunately he obtained a 3rd DUI while the 2nd was still open which you can imagine is an extremely serious situation. Virginia's skill and savvy resulted in absolutely no jail time for my friend and a very agreeable resolution to a series of events that could have ruined his life forever and had long reaching consequences preventing him from having the success he enjoys today. After hearing that experience I called Virginia and related my turn of events. She spent time thoroughly answering my questions and letting me know that due to the speeding element I stood to have an additional "enhancement" added to my list of charges which entailed jail time (which the other lawyers had mentioned but had not gone into the same detail over), which was especially unnerving as I already had been charged with a BAC over 2x the legal limit. This obviously alarmed me; however Virginia assured me she would do everything to ensure I was taken care of and she did not disappoint. I did not have to show up to any court dates, both my DMV hearing and my court case in LA were entirely taken care of and I received a standard DUI, without any enhancements, only 3 months of DUI classes and a restricted license with the addition of a Ignition Interlock device. The matter remained private, no one in my family or at work found out about the incident as Virginia's office made the process as painless as possible, consequently I didn't have to miss a day of work and had the security of knowing I was in good hands. I must also mention that Virginia's paralegal Lorena Hughes was such a patient and helpful member of her team and the support she provided was an incredible help. She constantly kept in contact, helped assuage my concerns at every point of the case, worked with me to ensure all my documents were taken care and even continued following up a year later to ensure that my fines/fees were all applied and resolved properly. I can confidently say that if you choose Virginia's legal office you will be more than satisfied with the results of the verdict and the quality of service provided along the way. This is especially true if you are being charged with a BAC of .16 or higher and have other elements of your case that carry severe penalties in addition to what is faced with a standard DUI. I have recommended her to several friends and hope whoever is reading this will consider my positive experience with her office as a reason to pick Virginia's office to represent them.

I own a small business with approx. 10 employees. I have had employment law issues which could have been very costly. I consulted with Kristine Karila about the issues my business was facing and she provided excellent advice and had a strategy for me to avoid any lawsuits. I have since consulted with Kristine on numerous occasions regarding my business’ employment law matters since California laws are very strict and constantly changing as well as difficult to know and understand. I highly recommend the Law Office of Kristine Karila. She is efficient, answers calls right away and knows California Employment law extremely well.

I am a 30-year business attorney in southern California. I have known Steve Zwick for 17 years. When I was injured in a car accident, I went to Steve for help. He and his team handled the procedural aspects of my case exceptionally well and he listened carefully to me about the pain I was suffering and the circumstances it caused in my life. He coordinated and directed me to the appropriate medical specialists to not only evaluate my condition, but to identify the specific source of my pain for purposes of long term resolution of it. He quite successfully advocated my right to compensation from all available angles. Steve is a caring person and a tenacious advocate. I trust his integrity, knowledge and experience to the point where I refer my clients who suffer personal injury to Steve for claim evaluation and prosecution.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Laguna Hills, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
