I found myself needing an attorney to represent me in a hurry after receiving a 5-day notice of termination of my job. That is how I found David Denis at extreme justice. The firm heard my story and immediately went to work for me. My attorney David kept me informed of what to expect during the whole process of the courts. My number one tip for anyone would be listen to David. I looked at him like I did a coach in sports. He told me when to be patient and when to be tough and fight. David told me up front it would take some time to settle this due to court backlog due to the covid-19 epidemic. If I had a question, I could rely on Ken Youngman to give me guidance as well. Ken is the office manager and was super helpful in answering questions. Remember to be patient during this process because the court system is backed up. I found myself upset from time to time but I reminded myself that I am not their only client. I am a retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps and I am glad I had the Extreme Justice team to fight for me. When we started the mediation process through the courts there were judges saying my case did not look so great. But David was there doing what he does so well, the art of negotiation. He knew when to lay back and when to push forward. When the dust settled, we negotiated a very substantial settlement for my case. I was very excited because I had lost all hope for a while. But David has a lot of experience and is very wise. Therefore, listen to your coach.

Ken and David were able to gracefully navigate being strong advocates while still being understanding of my needs. They worked tirelessly to help me regain a sense of justice and self worth after that power was taken away. I am extremely grateful for their dedication, professionalism, and patience. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

I was wrongfully terminated from my employment after getting injured and filing for Workers’ Comp. After hearing and reading a lot of good things about the Law Offices of David R. Denis, P.C., I decided to give them a call and after speaking with their office decided to retain them to handle my case. This is a choice that could not have turned out any better. They were very diligent with my case and had friendly mentality so that you were comfortable and knew that they were on your side. My employer, Amazon and their attorneys didn’t have a chance and wanted to settled almost immediately after my deposition. We could have taken my case to trial, but I am happy that we were able to resolve my case for six figure settlement. Covid-19 has the courts moving slow, and the Law Offices of David R. Denis, P.C. left the decision completely up to me to accept the six figure offer or take my case to trial. With that said I highly recommended David, and his loyal, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. You can’t won’t go wrong retaining this firm. “FACTS”

I found Atty. Alix on google and just tried to inquire about my immigration status. She was very helpful as she tried to explain everything to me that is accordance to the law and her experience as an immigration attorney. It gave me a breather because I can totally depend on her guidance and expertise and not to merely depend on hearsays or what we read on the internet. I highly recommend this attorney as she is very prompt and respond quickly on emails. I wish her more luck and success!

From the first call with Anna, I felt supported and heard, which was important to me given the nature of my case. Anna was realistic and honest in providing her opinion, while still maintaining empathy and taking great care to make sure my asks were represented. She navigated my case meticulously, and I felt empowered to have someone of her calibre by my side. As a young person with no experience, Anna spent many phone calls working through questions I had and explaining the nuances of different elements I was confused about. She always had suggestions and explanations which I appreciated, and helped me understand the rhythm of the process. We were able to reach a speedy conclusion and I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful attorney despite the circumstances that led me to her!

In addition to being exceptional at her job and incredibly professional, Anna handled my case with great empathy and patience. I'm sure a lot of the people she represents come into the situation with a lot of stress and anxiety - I sure did. She walked me through the process, laid out my options, and answered every single one of my questions with zero judgement. It's been an interesting "silver lining" to have such delightful interactions with Anna in the midst of all of this. Having Anna advocate for me brought so much peace into my life during a time of stress and I can't recommend her enough. Thank you again for your expertise and time!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Los Angeles, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
