David Zolkin helped my company through a chapter 11 restructuring. He was kind, considerate, and went above and beyond. Is he $$$, yes. Does $$$ mean better? In this case, absolutely. We had 0 problems, mishaps, or difficulties with our case. It went smoothly. Beautifully. As beautiful as a giant mountain of stress can be. The mountain turned into a hill. The hill into a plain. And finally, our company was able to make the much needed change with the freed up cashflow from the stay, and from the debt restructure. If you're in doubt. Do it. I WISH I would have done it sooner. Don't be me. Just call.

If you found yourself with a lawyer that promises you the world and promises top notch service just to be uncontactable after you paid the retainer, then you are in the same boat as me. I had another lawyer before coming to David Zolkin in a last ditch effort to save my company. The other lawyer was simply uncontactable after i paid the retainer. Their secretary would always take a message but i would never get a call back. And creditors don't wait. They are super scary and not being able to get a hold of your lawyer is super frustrating. Long story short. I cancelled the other useless lawyer and came to David Zolkin for some real help. David is a very kind and patient lawyer. He will not sell you the most expensive product unless he feels you really need it. He took the time to understand me and my business and we worked out a way without having to go through chapter 11. which would be really expensive and a win for the lawyer. Instead we focused on renegotiating with the creditors and to get some breathing room. David will be by your side. Not only that he will give you his person cell number and you can contact him anytime. And by anytime i mean anytime. He will always pick up and answer your text. He is truly a diamond lawyer and i can only recommend him to anyone that needs a lawyer for credit related issues.

David Zolkin is a champion of creditor rights. Together with his partner, Derick Tallerico, David was able to prevail decisively in court absolutely unheard of in the world of bankruptcy. As a result of David’s clear, concise, and superior argumentative and resourceful legal skills, David was able to block the debtor from succeeding in WHOLLY walking away from his financial obligations to me by securing a permanent ban on the debtor’s ability to ever file for bankruptcy again AND obtain a sanctions order which obligated the debtor to pay EVERY PENNY of my attorney fees! A permanent ban from filing for bankruptcy and a sanctions award for attorney’s fees are unheard of in bankruptcy court. This debtor had a history of using bankruptcy court filings as a financial management tool. The judge recognized this abuse almost immediately. David was able to provide the court with clear and persuasive evidence which directly facilitated the favorable rulings that were issued. His tenacity and voracious appetite to seek justice did not stop just with me. David’s principled respect for the law and grasp of the core purpose of the bankruptcy forum and his disdain for those who abuse it drove him to work countless hours on my case with impressive drive and passion. I have never seen an attorney work as hard as David did to advocate for me. Unlike many attorneys who perpetuate the length of litigation unnecessarily to garner fees, David was extraordinarily restrained and disciplined in this regard. David “picked his battles” to minimize the accumulation of fees. He did this without compromising my case. The Court’s favorable ruling that awarded every penny of the six-figure sum from the debtor’s pocket further demonstrates its recognition that the fees were appropriate. David’s superior communication skills and impressive depth of knowledge of statutes and case law built a strong attorney client relationship with me but also effectively messaged a zealous appetite of advocacy for me to the debtor. David attempted on several occasions to reach out and settle our case to cut costs and resolve our matter expeditiously. Although the debtor refused to settle, he has communicated to me that he regretted this and that he remains afraid of David. Prior to engaging David to represent me, I had virtually lost most of my faith in attorneys and the justice system due to years of witnessing the perpetuation of lies, games, and manipulation of competing narratives. I had come to believe that rather than the truth serving as the foundational frame of case litigation, attorneys and courts routinely cast that aside in favor of framing the presentation of their cases based solely upon the creation of competing narratives oftentimes with NO basis in fact. David restored my faith in attorneys and the justice system for one reason: HE BASED THE ENTIRE CASE ARGUMENTS SOLEY UPON THE TRUTH. Anyone seeking representation from an attorney with a proven track record of EXTRAORDINARY success that does NOT compromise on truth and ethics would be a fool not to retain him. I am proud to know that my case shall serve to further solidify the well established and well deserved esteemed and honorable reputation David enjoys within the legal community.

I found Atty. Alix on google and just tried to inquire about my immigration status. She was very helpful as she tried to explain everything to me that is accordance to the law and her experience as an immigration attorney. It gave me a breather because I can totally depend on her guidance and expertise and not to merely depend on hearsays or what we read on the internet. I highly recommend this attorney as she is very prompt and respond quickly on emails. I wish her more luck and success!

From the first call with Anna, I felt supported and heard, which was important to me given the nature of my case. Anna was realistic and honest in providing her opinion, while still maintaining empathy and taking great care to make sure my asks were represented. She navigated my case meticulously, and I felt empowered to have someone of her calibre by my side. As a young person with no experience, Anna spent many phone calls working through questions I had and explaining the nuances of different elements I was confused about. She always had suggestions and explanations which I appreciated, and helped me understand the rhythm of the process. We were able to reach a speedy conclusion and I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful attorney despite the circumstances that led me to her!

In addition to being exceptional at her job and incredibly professional, Anna handled my case with great empathy and patience. I'm sure a lot of the people she represents come into the situation with a lot of stress and anxiety - I sure did. She walked me through the process, laid out my options, and answered every single one of my questions with zero judgement. It's been an interesting "silver lining" to have such delightful interactions with Anna in the midst of all of this. Having Anna advocate for me brought so much peace into my life during a time of stress and I can't recommend her enough. Thank you again for your expertise and time!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Los Angeles, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
