My co-workers and I weren’t being paid correctly. We all had a sense of something wrong, but couldn’t quite pin down the details. Without the details, we saw no way of clarifying the pay questions. However, separately, we asked our employer about this, in case there was a mistake or some other explanation. None was offered. Most of us, including myself, found better employment. Some of us kept in contact discussing the former employer’s actions wondering if there was some solution such as State involvement. Labor Board, etc. Even though I didn’t have a lot of research time, I found “Ackermann & Tilajef, P.C.” After the first consultation, I told many of my friends and former co-workers. Turned out that we had a class-action law suit. Working with Craig Ackermann, Mike Malk, The paralegals, and all their excellent interns, was more than a business relationship for me. It was an excellent educational experience. The lessons I’ve learned are as valuable as the compensation they recovered. One valuable lesson is the machinations some employers continually go through to rip off their employees. I ask: “Isn’t it cheaper to obey the law, pay what you’re obligated to, rather than pay company lawyers?” The answer is obviously: “No.” However, with Craig, Mike, and their associates. Such employers might reconsider their legal strategies. Like, obey the laws in the first place.
I am very grateful to Craig. You didn’t just get compensation for me and my co-workers. You got us our confidence back, knowing that someone’s watching out for the working folk.
