Lauren is an outstanding attorney. She was my voice when I did not have one. Her compassion and professionalism exceeded my expectations. I had no idea what was ahead of me and she was there every step of the way. Lauren had my best interests at all times, prompt and open for all calls and quick updates and worked through all of my many questions and issues on my case. She put my mind at ease numerous times throughout my difficult divorce. I would highly recommend Lauren Youngman for your family law attorney.

I don't even know where to start... Lauren has not only managed for me and my (equally stubborn) ex to settle out of court. She has also been absolutely AMAZING throughout the whole process. To be honest I have no words to describe how much she has helped me. She is not just a great, competent lawyer with an extremely high level of professionalism -she is also genuine, great person. Just the kind of person you want by your side dealing with important issues in your life. Even though my divorce and even more so the child support was messed up when I first met Lauren, she instantly got the picture. She has handled the somewhat complicated matter efficiently and also had the needed knowledge of international law as well. All in all, Lauren has always been completely on top of things and I just feel so grateful to have met her. We all know that lawyers in this city can be a piece of work and maybe even add to the drama - and make the bills add up too. So to meet someone as genuine, knowledgable and reasonable as Lauren has been a true blessing. If only I had met her sooner!

Truly an amazing team of lawyers! I worked with Lauren on a family law case, but had a little bit of help from Ron and Barbara as well. Lauren was fantastic to work with. It was not an easy or pleasant process to go through, but Lauren was right there with me the whole time. She worked so hard and was always on top of things and managed to relieve a huge amount of stress for me during the whole process. Not only is she great at her job, but you really feel like she cares, and that she was doing everything in her power to achieve the best outcome for me and my family.

Recently I needed to dissolve a Domestic Partnership. I thought the process would be simple and something I could do with a little online help. I quickly found that it isn’t simple and is the same as a full-on divorce. I needed legal counsel. Through my employer benefits services, I was referred to the offices of Youngman Reitshtein, PLC. On my very first phone call to the office, I talked to Lauren Youngman, Esq. On that first call, Lauren talked me through the process, explaining how a divorce happens for both parties and what I would need to provide for all of the court filings. Her ease of conversation and honest approach on that call told me that she would be a great person with which to work. I scheduled a meeting and had no reservations to engage her legal services. Even a simple divorce takes time and patience; Lauren made it simple, convenient and easy. She was always available to talk with me or email me – basically always available to answer questions and make recommendations. When you think about a legal service, the fear of cost is always there. The main cause of that angst for me comes from me needing to feel that I am getting my money’s worth. With Lauren, I never felt the need to question anything on the financial side of things. She was above board, transparent and conducted our business with integrity, communication and smarts. Lauren always approached our business with professionalism yet never had a moment without personality. Doing business with someone you like and enjoy is by far, a better experience. Business relationships depend on setting and understanding expectations. From day one, Lauren was exceptional in this area. Based on my needs, Lauren Youngman, Esq., provided to me exactly what I needed, what I wanted and how I wanted it to happen. And because of this, I do not hesitate to endorse her. Thank you, Lauren

I had the pleasure of working with Lauren on a very complicated and unique family case that dated back years. From the first day I met with Lauren and Ron they were able to help me understand all my rights. They both seem very knowledgeable on Family Law and Paternity so I immediately decided to hire them to represent me and I’m happy to say I made the right choice. Lauren was also on top of my case and kept me updated through the entire process. I’m happy to say that against all odds we came up on top. I would highly recommend Lauren and her team!

I found Atty. Alix on google and just tried to inquire about my immigration status. She was very helpful as she tried to explain everything to me that is accordance to the law and her experience as an immigration attorney. It gave me a breather because I can totally depend on her guidance and expertise and not to merely depend on hearsays or what we read on the internet. I highly recommend this attorney as she is very prompt and respond quickly on emails. I wish her more luck and success!

From the first call with Anna, I felt supported and heard, which was important to me given the nature of my case. Anna was realistic and honest in providing her opinion, while still maintaining empathy and taking great care to make sure my asks were represented. She navigated my case meticulously, and I felt empowered to have someone of her calibre by my side. As a young person with no experience, Anna spent many phone calls working through questions I had and explaining the nuances of different elements I was confused about. She always had suggestions and explanations which I appreciated, and helped me understand the rhythm of the process. We were able to reach a speedy conclusion and I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful attorney despite the circumstances that led me to her!

In addition to being exceptional at her job and incredibly professional, Anna handled my case with great empathy and patience. I'm sure a lot of the people she represents come into the situation with a lot of stress and anxiety - I sure did. She walked me through the process, laid out my options, and answered every single one of my questions with zero judgement. It's been an interesting "silver lining" to have such delightful interactions with Anna in the midst of all of this. Having Anna advocate for me brought so much peace into my life during a time of stress and I can't recommend her enough. Thank you again for your expertise and time!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Los Angeles, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
