Robert Helfend Is by far the best attorney I have ever hired. I have hired other attorney's in the past, but what impressed me most about Mr. Helfend was that he was very confident about getting me the best outcome, I didn't even think I could get. He was very straight forward and told me what to expect every step of the way. He knew the judges, the prosecutors and most importantly he knows the law. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again if needed. I recommend him to friends and family and I am so thankful for his work ethics, he goes above and beyond for his clients. And he is really humorous and had me laughing throughout a very stressful time in my life, I was charged with multiple felonies for identity theft and he got the case dismissed just recently in March 2022. I hired him for two federal indictments for my fiance who is currently not serving any prison time for federal identity theft, charged, back to back. Mr. Helfend did the impossible and got him out of Federal prison. Who does that???? Again I can not say enough about this wonderful, knowledgeable man. I am forever grateful and I will never forget. Respectfully Nancy Cuellar

Ok so where do I begin? You think you do the 'right' things when you are dealing with a cybercrime/ID theft/bank fraud. But turned out I did not. Mistakenly I thought I had done 'everything' correctly only to be confronted with charges with the very same things I was almost victimized with the first time. Long story short? I was scared and horrified beyond belief that I had to deal with being turned from a victim into perpetrator as I had found a court summons in my mail one day of the very same allegations that a yr before before I had fought against. I almost been turned into a victim for this incident that I thought I had put to rest. Like anybody seeking this type of help, I did a ton of research and found Mr. Helfend and actually had a recommendation for him (my cousin is a lawyer and knew him by reputation and said hire this guy) For six months I didn't know what was going to happen to me as to what my fate was going to be. Even though Mr Helfend offered me consolation of what could happen, what he was doing, who he was talking to etc. But still, there are weird parts of your brain that can take over with thoughts that nagged me as to what could happen as to what my fate would be. He was 'incredibly' patient as time passed as the 'system' almost failed me on an epic level. As he had dealt with the courts, who disregarded the evidence I already had, He forced my accusers to acknowledge that I had evidence already which he submitted for me when I gave it too him and that I had fought back and then some, of which he did the same for me as my accusers vainly adhered to the charges that were brought against me, which were found out have distorted sentences/words and false facts that were brought forth by a 2nd party. In the end I thank him for helping me retain my sanity and is truly a saint among us mortals that has a passion for fighting for people who are innocent of crimes and the allegations that are brought against them and actually found 'extra' evidence (that I didn't know about that supported my innocence that I didn't know existed) to support what I already had and still questioned my accusers 'every' step of the way when they tried to refute every little thing. So long story short? I was ultimately found innocent. This man is also a saint for the patience he had, for knowing the frustration, fear and the insanity I was feeling and I will never forget that. What more can you ask for than a person who has serious passion for what he does? Only great person at what he does for living with a gift for this type of knowledge and will fight to the bitter end. If there was some way that this website could give someone a 10 star rating on this site I would, but I'll be content with a 5 star rating.

I found Atty. Alix on google and just tried to inquire about my immigration status. She was very helpful as she tried to explain everything to me that is accordance to the law and her experience as an immigration attorney. It gave me a breather because I can totally depend on her guidance and expertise and not to merely depend on hearsays or what we read on the internet. I highly recommend this attorney as she is very prompt and respond quickly on emails. I wish her more luck and success!

From the first call with Anna, I felt supported and heard, which was important to me given the nature of my case. Anna was realistic and honest in providing her opinion, while still maintaining empathy and taking great care to make sure my asks were represented. She navigated my case meticulously, and I felt empowered to have someone of her calibre by my side. As a young person with no experience, Anna spent many phone calls working through questions I had and explaining the nuances of different elements I was confused about. She always had suggestions and explanations which I appreciated, and helped me understand the rhythm of the process. We were able to reach a speedy conclusion and I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful attorney despite the circumstances that led me to her!

In addition to being exceptional at her job and incredibly professional, Anna handled my case with great empathy and patience. I'm sure a lot of the people she represents come into the situation with a lot of stress and anxiety - I sure did. She walked me through the process, laid out my options, and answered every single one of my questions with zero judgement. It's been an interesting "silver lining" to have such delightful interactions with Anna in the midst of all of this. Having Anna advocate for me brought so much peace into my life during a time of stress and I can't recommend her enough. Thank you again for your expertise and time!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Los Angeles, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
