Thank YOU, Stanley Imerman ! I needed so much help with a difficult situation, and Mr. Imerman, was able to get right to work, & help me thru all my legal problem, with research, answers, & hands on dealing with & finding all the answers for me. He also handled the negotiations meetings , with & for me. Beyond helpful ! But what helped me also, is that Mr. Imerman was so pleasant, & low key speaking with me & giving me the legal information I so needed. He is total hands ON, and very well versed when dealing with the people & agencies I was having trouble with. And so glad that he is still handling my problems, with solutions in sight. Nancy

Stanley Imerman was very knowledgeable for my business separation problem. He helped move the other party to action and to move forward more quickly resulting in the other party stop stalling and finish the deal. He asked if I wanted his review of a contract that was on the table before doing so. This gave me the option to ok additional billed hours which I found very fair of him (and not my experience with a different lawyer). He was everything I needed and more. I would recommend Stanley without any hesitation. Knows his stuff, communicates well and in easy-to-understand language, and follows through on everything. Thank you so very much for all you did Stanley!

Stanley Imerman is a consummate professional – a true asset to his profession. I hired him for what I thought would be fairly straightforward and predictable work: the sale of a business. It turned out to have its share of surprises. Throughout the entire process, Stanley was always one step ahead – preparing the next set of necessary paperwork, anticipating obstacles, and providing invaluable advice. On the topic of obstacles – Stanley’s breadth and depth of knowledge were critical to our achieving the desired outcomes. When a 3rd party to the transaction acted unscrupulously in the 11th hour and threatened the process, Stanley knew exactly what to do even when I thought the issue may be outside of his area of expertise. I remain impressed by his versatility, wealth of knowledge, and experience. From the start, it became clear to me that integrity was central to Stanley’s work. Billing was always fair, transparent, and accurate. He has mastered the art of concision: attorneys may err on the side of providing too much information at the risk of overbilling, or providing too little and sacrificing thoroughness. Stanley always struck a balance between being thorough and making sure he was only doing the work that was necessary. In short, when you hire Stanley, you consistently feel as if you’re getting a good deal. In my experience, one of the most frustrating aspects of working with attorneys is how hard it often is to reach them. With Stanley, there are no organizational layers to breach through to get a response – you send an email, and Stanley’s response is in your inbox before you had thought to even refresh it. I never waited more than a few hours to hear from him even outside of business hours. Further, Stanley was always taking initiative in our work. This meant that I always knew where we were during the process, what was expected of me, and what the next step was. Consequently, there was never any downtime between one step and the next, and the result was a streamlined experience where the only delays were caused by external factors. I cannot emphasize how refreshing this was. Trust is the most important factor in a client-attorney relationship. Stanley will earn your trust quickly. When he learned of a separate but related issue to my situation that was potentially being mishandled by another attorney, he made sure that I was not being misled. After doing his research, Stanley brought the matter to my attention carefully so as to not step on the toes of the other attorney representing me. Though I did not ask him to do this, I am very grateful that he did as it will likely save me from a lengthy process and its associated legal fees. Stanley is a true advocate for his clients. If you are considering hiring an attorney, stop your search and hire Stanley Imerman. It is a pleasure to work with him.

I found Atty. Alix on google and just tried to inquire about my immigration status. She was very helpful as she tried to explain everything to me that is accordance to the law and her experience as an immigration attorney. It gave me a breather because I can totally depend on her guidance and expertise and not to merely depend on hearsays or what we read on the internet. I highly recommend this attorney as she is very prompt and respond quickly on emails. I wish her more luck and success!

From the first call with Anna, I felt supported and heard, which was important to me given the nature of my case. Anna was realistic and honest in providing her opinion, while still maintaining empathy and taking great care to make sure my asks were represented. She navigated my case meticulously, and I felt empowered to have someone of her calibre by my side. As a young person with no experience, Anna spent many phone calls working through questions I had and explaining the nuances of different elements I was confused about. She always had suggestions and explanations which I appreciated, and helped me understand the rhythm of the process. We were able to reach a speedy conclusion and I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful attorney despite the circumstances that led me to her!

In addition to being exceptional at her job and incredibly professional, Anna handled my case with great empathy and patience. I'm sure a lot of the people she represents come into the situation with a lot of stress and anxiety - I sure did. She walked me through the process, laid out my options, and answered every single one of my questions with zero judgement. It's been an interesting "silver lining" to have such delightful interactions with Anna in the midst of all of this. Having Anna advocate for me brought so much peace into my life during a time of stress and I can't recommend her enough. Thank you again for your expertise and time!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Los Angeles, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
