My experience with Mr. Khan and his firm was very recent. Before speaking with him, I reached out to numerous attorneys and my previous attorney was of no help. I'd lost all hope and thought that my life was going to go in a horrible direction. And then I reached out to Foglight Law. Mr. Khan dealt with me in a straightforward, non-pretentious and down to earth way. Also, he handled my case with flying stars and thanks to his intervention and advocacy, I can say that I am in a far far far better economic position. He is brilliant, honest, ethical and carries a strong sense of justice. When it comes to attorneys, he has surpassed all my expectations. If you need an attorney, I highly recommend T. Khan at Foglight Law. He is the absolute BEST! Thank you so very much, Mr. Khan.

Thanks Foglight! T. Khan helped me with a traffic matter. I was driving and was arrested for a warrant which is a misdemeanor and he got it reduced to an infraction! Even though the DA was being really strict with me trying to give the max fine and penalty.. I'm not sure how you did it but thanks for being there for me!

Being billed unexpectedly by a previous landlord for a damage you didn't cause is a very stressful experience. How do you defend yourself? Fortunately, Mr. Khanzada quickly came to my rescue and provided some much needed pointers. Having been able to consult with him immediately as I received the unexpected bill was a tremendous help. With his input, I was able to think things through clearly and plan out my response and further actions. I am grateful for the opportunity of consulting with Mr. Khanzada. I believe he is a knowledgable and CARING professional. I highly recommend working with him.

I'm writing this review because Mr. Khan was kind enough to ask. I met Mr. Khan at the LA County law library. I have been going through issues with a deadbeat spouse who could not care less about his children and now they're all grown up. I wanted to know my options and took the books. All the librarians I asked for help thought I was asking them for legal advice and refused to help me out. I strolled around the library in desperation and I noticed Mr. Khan. I knew he was an attorney right away. He was well dressed, groomed and had his face buried in the middle of a very large law book. I didn't want to be rude or annoy him but I needed someone to quickly explain how to get started and he had a kind face. I greeted him and explained my situation to Mr. Khan. I was on the verge of having a nervous breakdown with everything I'd been through and all I wanted to do is help my self! Mr. Khan closed his book and told me to have a seat. He must've seen that I was barely hanging on by a thread. He explained to me that if I wanted to continue without an attorney, I would be considered a pro se client. He explained that going forward pro se was risky and that even lawyers have a hard time with the law. He told me that the supreme court has nine justices and even they disagree about the law, that more than half of applicants who sit for the California bar fail the exam and that in criminal cases, the court system is reluctant to allow people to go forward without an attorney. I had never thought of that and hearing that put my mind at ease. He helped me understand that I was setting myself up for unrealistic expectations. I told him that I understood but I wanted to go forward, regardless. Then, he did something that I wouldn't have expected in a million years. He handed me a notepad from his briefcase and told me to take notes. We sat at the library for several hours and he lectured me on California family law. He summarized everything in a way that actually made sense! He wasn't condescending or short tempered. He gave me the foundation I needed to meaningfully engage with the material that was available. I now know I could collect back support with arrears! Of course a lot of stuff doesn't make sense and I still ask him for help. Why they don't teach family law in high school is beyond me. He has never asked me for anything in return. Until now. So what do I think about Attorney T. Khan? I think he's selfless. He knows his stuff like the back of his hand. He cares about people. He takes his valuable time with people. He's not greedy. He's well educated and brilliant. He knows how to connect with people. He respects women. He has compassion. He's reliable. He's an invaluable member of our community.

I found Atty. Alix on google and just tried to inquire about my immigration status. She was very helpful as she tried to explain everything to me that is accordance to the law and her experience as an immigration attorney. It gave me a breather because I can totally depend on her guidance and expertise and not to merely depend on hearsays or what we read on the internet. I highly recommend this attorney as she is very prompt and respond quickly on emails. I wish her more luck and success!

From the first call with Anna, I felt supported and heard, which was important to me given the nature of my case. Anna was realistic and honest in providing her opinion, while still maintaining empathy and taking great care to make sure my asks were represented. She navigated my case meticulously, and I felt empowered to have someone of her calibre by my side. As a young person with no experience, Anna spent many phone calls working through questions I had and explaining the nuances of different elements I was confused about. She always had suggestions and explanations which I appreciated, and helped me understand the rhythm of the process. We were able to reach a speedy conclusion and I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful attorney despite the circumstances that led me to her!

In addition to being exceptional at her job and incredibly professional, Anna handled my case with great empathy and patience. I'm sure a lot of the people she represents come into the situation with a lot of stress and anxiety - I sure did. She walked me through the process, laid out my options, and answered every single one of my questions with zero judgement. It's been an interesting "silver lining" to have such delightful interactions with Anna in the midst of all of this. Having Anna advocate for me brought so much peace into my life during a time of stress and I can't recommend her enough. Thank you again for your expertise and time!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Los Angeles, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
