Craig Byrnes is incredible. I found Craig after I sought legal representation after my employer presented me with a difficult situation. He was so responsive, knowledgeable, and clear in his approach to protect my interests. Craig is adept at filtering out ethical or emotional issues from legal issues, and does not waste time on futile matters. He is extremely efficient and does not sugarcoat anything. He is great at client management too, keeping me focused on the task at hand and talking sense into me when needed. Craig was able to reach an amicable resolution with my employer to end the situation gracefully and rationally. I don't know if anyone has referred to their attorney as a knight in shining armor, but he is definitely that. I highly recommend him to anyone - you want him on your side.

I cannot explain the great help Craig was to me in my case. He picked up the dirty work another attorney left behind, In no time he had answers for me, that he explained in great detail until I was on board with understanding the big picture. He is extraordinary and professional. Craig kept me in the loop every step of the way, and unlike other attorneys, he never mentioned time spent on the phone nor email exchanges, he doesn't make it about money. He truly cares about his clients and makes time for them. I am beyond happy with the settlement he obtained, and would highly recommend Craig to anyone looking for an honest, professional, experienced and empathetic attorney. If ever there is need of representation again, I would not think twice to call on Craig, the relationship we built and advised he gave me has helped me lifelong.

Mr. Byrnes served me twice. I first met him when searching for an employment lawyer because I wanted a contract if I was to leave my job to go help prospective employer with their business. I was leaving a highly paid job and wanted both sides to be clear as to what we agreed to. Once the contract was signed and I resigned my other job, my employer refused to pay me what was agreed to in the contract. Mr. Byrnes provided excellent advice throughout the whole mess, was strategic in his approach, and was far more knowledgeable that some of the lawyers the employer hired (employer went through about 3 lawyers before finally settling). Mr. Byrnes got me a big settlement. I cannot say enough positive things about Mr. Byrnes. His professionalism is outstanding. He prepared for the case so thoroughly that no matter what opposing lawyers might throw at us, he always responded with facts and law, so they stopped arguing with him. I wouldn't want to have to be on the other side in a case he was involved with. He always told me the truth, explained the law and how judges were ruling on various points, and he listened to my concerns with great sensitivity. Anyone who has an employment law issue can do no better than turning to Craig Byrnes. Ultimately, he stood strong for me and obtained a big settlement for me.

Craig Byrnes represented me in a case against my former employer. Not only had I lost my livelihood, I was also extremely distressed due to the way I had been treated through the matter. Craig Byrnes took the time to explain my situation, making sure that I understood the issues, the process, the strength of my case, and the possible obstacles. Every step of the way he kept me well informed about what was developing with my case. He fought for me, and diligently worked to achieve the best outcome for my case. I was very satisfied with the results, and finally felt some vindication in the end. I will be forever grateful for what he did for me. He's definitely the one you want fighting for you.

I've just come through a sexual harassment and retaliation case against my (now ex) employer, and I feel very fortunate to have been referred to Craig Byrnes. Now that it's all said and done, I would recommend this attorney to a dear friend or a family member without hesitation. He's incredibly knowledgeable, strategic, and skilled in his area of expertise. He explained to me early on that law practice is an art form, and I now understand what that meant. Craig is a gifted communicator, and his writing style is astonishingly effective. If I was an employer who had crossed a legal boundary, Craig Byrnes is not the man I'd want to be hearing from in the matter. It was clear to me from the consultation that he is passionate about the rights and safety of employees, and it shows in every step of his work. His skillset paired with tenacity makes him excellent. Where the violation of employment law is concerned, there is a terrible power imbalance. Most who are looking for this specialization in a lawyer, understand that. Craig truly went to bat for me, in every sense. In a terrible situation, he gave me a strong voice and restored that balance. The outcome of my case was far better than I'd hoped for, and I'm confident that my legal representation had everything to do with it. He's also a pleasure to deal with, which is an added bonus.

Rodney Alves is the consumate professional. He is my General Counsel handling Entertainment, Contracts, International, New Business Ventures, and Acquisitions Law. Unlike other Attorneys who are simply lawyers Rodney is also a businessman who understands the dynamics of how businesses are organized and operated. I have seen hm in action as a businessman taking off the legal hat and operating as a skilled manager and executive. He is also skilled on developing business plans as as such is a valuable part of the things I do. Inquiries are welcomed.

Hugh Grant got me a nice settlement with Vioxx. I was ready to toss it in when Hugh picked up the ball and ran with it. He is a bulldog, but a nice bulldog. I will always recommend Hugh.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Manhattan Beach, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
