Having worked here for 5 years, I can personally vouch for the integrity and diligence of the attorneys at Hackard. Their litigation strategies and expertise consistently achieve the results clients seek. Mike Hackard himself has over 45 years of experience in litigating cases. There is no better team of attorneys to advocate for your case than the one at Hackard Law. Although I no longer work at Hackard, I will always recommend them to anyone dealing with trust and estate or personal injury issues.

I want to express our (the beneficiaries) appreciation to Mike and Emma and the Hackard Law Team for reviewing the complicated issues we face regarding our Trust and the recent sale of the home our father left to us... We are grateful for their expertise and insights, and for helping us in our quest for fairness and holding the Trustee accountable. We are facing difficult times, and having such skilled and compassionate legal advocates means the world to us, so we want to again thank everyone at Hackard Law for their heartfelt efforts on our behalf.

We wanted to express our sincere appreciation for the work and support provided to us by Brian Geremia at the Hackard Law group. We retained these attorneys due to a volatile conflict regarding an inheritance based on an established trust. A cousin that had been named as executor of the final estate attempted to take the proceeds of the entire estate for himself instead of abiding by the trust parameters which stipulated that everything remaining should be divided five ways. These attorneys were able to correct this situation and we ended with a fair resolution. Thank you Brian and Hackard Law.

I have used Jake in the past for reviewing a number of documents and many friends and colleagues of mine have used him for litigation matters. My experience and others I know has always been top notch. Jake is dependable, very sharp, and above all, honest and puts his clients needs above his own. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an attorney.

Working with Brian was a truly wonderful experience! He was very understanding and kind. We immediately felt safe and relaxed knowing we had him on our team. He answered every question we had...even when we asked them repeatedly. He never made us feel as if we were a bother or taking his time. He was always available. Brian is super knowledgeable about the fields he is in also. He knew everything that would happen every step the way and communicated those things clearly and professionally. He was calm too, in some of our most stressed, angry, and saddest moments, Brian was there with a reassuring attitude and an ear to listen. Family litigation is tough and having someone who is trustworthy, kind, understanding, smart, well spoken and always one step ahead was an absolute blessing. We can't recommend him enough!

Trust litigation is a very sensitive area of Law considering all that is at stake when you have decided that you need to seek legal council it can feel very overwhelming. Hackard Law handled my case with the utmost professionalism and compassion as if I was part of there family. Brian was patient and took the time to listen and understand my case. He always returned my calls and messages promptly. He never dismissed any questions I had or concerns. And if I brought up aspects of my case that were not completely relevant or that could possibly draw the matter out further, Brian didn’t automatically agree and I felt that at all times he genuinely had my best interests at heart and I respected him tremendously for that. This is how it should be when you hire an Attorney. Because they are working to fight for you and you should feel that at all times your Attorney has your back. I always felt that way with Brian and Hackard Law. Mr Mike Hackard had even taken time on his Saturday to call me personally and really get to know the aspects of our family. Hackard Law genuinely made me feel like my case mattered to them. Even during this pandemic there attention to detail and respect to your time was absolutely superb. I had contacted several firms before them and had calls unanswered, was told they weren’t accepting new clients, etc. I stumbled upon Mike Hackards Trust Litigation informational videos and ads online and I gave them a call. My call was returned that same day and I was really anxious because I didn’t have a lot of money and I knew they were in the more elite class of Law Firms. To my surprise they worked with me to negotiate my contract so that both parties benefited and there was no doubt I made the right choice. Brian resolved my case swiftly and even when the other party resorted to a couple slight insults Brian stayed professional at all times. That always tells me the true character of a person and a business. They will fight for you not because they just want to win but because they know it’s the right thing to do and they will stand firm on those beliefs. For anyone trying to decide if Hackard Law is the right choice and for the reviews that may have not had a winning case I can say with utmost confidence it would not have been for there lack of effort. Not all cases are cut and dry and you don’t always win in life. But considering all that is at stake when you have to make the hard choice to hire an Attorney to represent you in a matter that almost certainly will cause families to be torn apart, I would choose Hackard Law Firm every time to be on my side! Thank you!

Brian Geremia represented me when my sister and brother sued me for our Aunt's estate. I was literally devastating when I was notified of the suit. I called the office (Hackard Law) along with several others. From the first phone call to the last this company took care of me. I could not have asked for better representation. Brian is very compassionate and thorough he didn't miss anything. His anticipation of pretty much every move they made was spot on. I felt completely comfortable and secure all the way through the case. I did eventually will the case. I know I would not have had it not been for Brian and his team!!!!! I am forever grateful to Brian !!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mather, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
