The entire staff are wonderful to work with. Kristin answered my myriad questions patiently and thoroughly. She got a settlement that was unexpected and awesome! I found their rates to be competitive (and they're worth it). I brought a unique Lemon Law case to them. They took the time to actually look at it and decided to take my case. I strongly recommend this firm.

We are so grateful to Kristin and her team! We purchased a CPO Jaguar F-Pace that turned out to have been in a significant pre-sale accident that was never disclosed to us and that negatively impacted our ability to use the vehicle, resulting in expensive out-of-pocket costs for repairs. After getting the runaround from the dealership we purchased it from, we called Kristin and are so glad we did! Happily we were able to resolve the issue in mediation. Kristin and her team were absolutely wonderful to work with and are extremely knowledgeable and professional. They always responded in a very timely manner and kept us in the loop throughout the entire process. We are so happy to have been able to get this resolved, and are so pleased with the outcome of our case! If it wasn’t for Kristin, Adam and their team, we would have been stuck upside down on a bad vehicle. So grateful!!

I absoloutly recommend this law firm, I worked with Kristin she is an amazing attorney. She explained the hole process of protecting my right as a consumer when I had an issue with Mercedes dealership. Because of her I was able to legally ask for my rights from the dealer and get what I was entitled to get. I worked with many attorneys in the past Kristin is the one I want to have on my side. I am extremely satisfied with my case and the performance of Kemnitzer, Barron & Krieg lawfirm. Highly recommend! Thanks Kristin!

Top lawyer and runs her practice with high standards and delivers the best overall legal advice & guidance into a settlement. Recommended by a friend and I switched over to her immediately after being brushed aside by another lemon lawyer to wait for more problems that would endanger my family in the car. She represented me and stood up for the safety of my family to be in a safe vehicle. Very lucky and fortunate to have her represent me and take on my case that we won.

After talking to several lawyers that would not take our case and would not return our calls; we found Kristin. She knows the law and knows what she is doing. She is an excellent negotiator. She got the job done right while maintaining a highly moral and ethical standard and making sure there was strong communication between us. Words cannot describe the help Kristin has given my family and me. I will be forever thankful and would highly advise anyone seeking counsel to look no further. Professional, courteous, timely, compassionate, cares about her client, and is very responsive. She would always get back to my emails and questions right away. Very very happy with the outcome. I will definitely recommend her to everyone.

Mr. Woodlief was outstanding in helping move my case forward. Our eventual settlement was far more than my company ever expected. As a C-level executive, I demand professionalism, grace, tenacity, and creativity. To date, I've not met anyone that embodies all of this and more. His unsurpassed knowledge of the peripheral areas of law that affected our needs was also impressive. We called on him to assist us with debt restructuring and still retain him for other issues. It is be my pleasure to recommend Mr. Woodlief without reservation.

George handled everything from the interview to settlement. Throughout the process, I always felt I was in good hands. At the consultation, George took the time to understand the case, including my priorities and concerns. He tailored his communication to my needs. He was immediately able to walk me through the most likely courses the case would take, and this ended up being accurate. Where we had choices for how to proceed, I was presented with clear alternatives, and it was up to me. Other than that, I let him handle everything. He was always available by email or by phone within 1 day, even when he had other trials going on. The experts he hired to add specialized knowledge were appropriate. With George, I felt protected from the messy and frustrating aspects of this process. I just had to show up, and tell my story, as needed. In documents he prepared, conversations and meetings we had, it was clear that he took the time to understand the details of the case inside and out. It became clear that the other side was not reasonable, and I was glad to have George there to give them a dose of reality. I felt confident that we arrived at an optimal outcome. I am glad I hired George.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mill Valley, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
