10/01/2022 After calling numerous attorneys, I could instantly tell that Steven Zwick was honest hardworking and cared about me and my family. I trusted him and his staff, I could tell he was going to provide a positive outcome for me and he did. The entire staff kept in contact with me and would call me back after work hours just to check in and provide me with an update. I could not be more appreciative of this attorney and his staff. This attorney is the most professional, honest, trustworthy and reasonable I have encountered in over my lifetime and recommend them highly. Again I want to thank them for their hard work and diligence in my matter they are incredible. James

Spoke with Steven in 2020 regarding my case, he was an extremely nice and ethical attorney, he wanted to take my case, when I was ready to sign a contract with him, his case evaluator told me I have to do a lot of movements in my case before to get my case. She suggested me to get my medical records, make a report to my health insurance and make a report to my local police department. I wasn’t sure to do all those things because I studied law in Mexico and I didn’t wanted to mess my case, I was back and forth with her for a year, not letting me to speak with Steven, she was ALWAYS blocking me. I had the feeling that there were more people affected like me with same case with my ex doctor. And yes, more people affected showed up! So I made my report with the medical insurance, and the police department as Steven’s case evaluator suggested me in order to take my case and It became worse!!!! My health insurance notified my doctor about the report that I made with them and the police putting my life in risk and ruining a criminal investigation. I knew I have to wait to speak directly with Steven before I do any movement because his assistant is NOT an attorney, she shouldn’t be giving legal advices and preventing clients to get legal representation when I had already a verbal agreement with Steven. Now I need to sue my medical insurance, the police are supporting me, and I still wanted Steven as an attorney but the ladies working there are making it impossible! I hope he read this comment and get in contact with me again without people in between as our previous agreement.

I was involved in an auto accident which rendered me disabled. Steve and his staff were very caring and involved in the small details and care about their clients. I was driven to my doctor's office by their office when I was unable to drive myself or get a ride. They went above and beyond for me and my family.

I have known Mr. Zwick as a fellow trial attorney for at least 15 years. He is an extremely experienced and capable personal injury and civil litigator, who cares about his clients and obtains results. I would give an unqualified recommendation of him to anyone who required competent legal counsel in a personal injury or legal malpractice case.

While researching and meeting with several legal professionals regarding wills and living trusts, I felt a bit overwhelmed with all the legal jargon and I also didn’t feel like my questions were being answered. During my search I was referred to Gipe Law. After a short initial phone call, I knew he was the guy to help me get what I wanted done. Christopher was able to listen to my concerns and goals and explain everything to me in my plain English. Meeting with him in person and going over the documents couldn’t have been smoother. I feel confident that if anything were to happen to me, my loved ones will not be lost and instead will have direction and have a legal plan set in place to be able to keep moving forward with confidence.

We worked with Chris to create our estate planning docs- revocable living trust, wills, power of attorney, and advanced health care directives. Chris is personable, patient with all our questions, explains complex legal concepts clearly, and just an overall pleasure to work with. He has also been a great listener and advice-giver with some other legal matters beyond the estate planning. Highly recommend checking him out for your estate planning needs. He's a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mission Viejo, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
