The worst most unprofessional office ever. if only I had read all these negative reviews on William Greens office, i would of never ever hired them. They never communicate, they never call you back, they always end up hanging up on you and never return emails until you threaten to take them to The State Bar. They lie continuously to you. One of the worst employees is Noemi who calls herself the manager. She is absolutely so unprofessional, dishonest and does not give a s... about you or her work environment. i do not see how she can be called a manager when she does NOTHING for this law practice but destroy it. I ended up firing them and am so glad i did. This place is such a nightmare to deal with. I ended up working out my work comp case without them on my own. I must say what a pleasure it was dealing with the defendants insurance attorneys. They were so very professional. They called me when they said they would. They emailed me when they said they would. They answered all my questions in a very professional manner and were just a pleasure to deal with. If anyone has a work comp case, RUN from this law firm.

I had a case with Mr Green for many years. I like him as a person and i trusted him. But after 14 years i became very sceptical of all the things that happened. The biggest problem is communication with most of his clients. The problem i am having now is i left the country, and the covid is keeping me from getting to really push the firm to settle my case. I only talk to a legal assistant, and that is only by email, when he decides to answer my emails. It has been so long that no other attorney wants to handle the case. So i am basically stuck with them. Well, i have one attorney that might help me. Anyway, The legal assistant always has another reason to keep the case going. I am almost convinced that they want to keep it going. At first the legal assistant told me the rating and how much we could get if i just wait longer. I waited and now he is saying the settlement is much much less. I spend a big part of my life going to MRIs, exrays, doctor visits, evaluations, re-evaluations, depositions, etc. Now they still wont settle the case, and they keep me holding on to nothing. I am retired now and drawing social security and pension from my job. But i cant get them to settle the case. I guess i will have to get the other attorney to intervene and help with the case and pay an extra fee for that. Or i will have to complain to the board. I am very very disappointed in that group of people. I dont think anyone knows where the office is. Bill goes out to get clients and then you talk to people in some office somewhere. The mail goes to a post office. I thought Bill was a friend, but now i am wondering about all of them.

James Sweeney is unparalleled in his professional and easy-going handling of his cases, the meticulous research he engages with, and the drive to success in his cases. I can say that because he won my case. He aims to win and has the drive to follow it through to the end. If you need an attorney to go to bat for you, James Sweeney would be welcome on any team as a pinch hitter to get the job completed with everything given to that goal.

Mr. Sweeney is one of the smartest people I have ever met in my life. He knows the law better than I could imagine and was able to help me win 2 court cases with the background and knowledge he has learned throughout the years. A family friend recommended him to me and I am surely grateful to have him on my team. I recomend Mr. James Sweeney and know he is the #1 defence attorney in Orange County California

All I had was a traffic ticket, so I went online to ticket snipers to remove it and they failed and offered no way to fix the issue. Mr. Sweeney refilled and has given me a strategy that I can stand behind. I'll update my review when I win the case!

Vanessa was assigned to my case and her and her team took care of everything. They made sure to communicate with me at every step and I can't say how much I appreciated it. My mother ended up getting into a car accident a few years later and I immediately reached out to Vanessa. I can't recommend them enough, they always get the job done!!

I would highly recommend Kalfayan Merjanian. They are there for you to help to answer any questions or just check in on how you are feeling. From day one until the closing of your case (5 years in my case) you have someone on your side. Thank you!

I was in a bad car accident last year and I was recommended to work with Kalfayan Merjanian and I’m glad I did. Getting into a car accident and all the aftermath of an accident is stressful, but working with this firm it made it all a breeze for me. They helped me find the medical care I needed and made appointments for me. Very communicative throughout the process. It was a pleasure working with everyone from this firm.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Newport Beach, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
