My experience with Mr. Davis was excellent. He is knowledgable, detailed in his process and reliable. I never had to question his thoroughness or integrity. Going to court is unpleasant but I felt very safe because of my attorney. He's tough when he needs to be and I really appreciate that.

After catching my wife with another man, a marriage therapist who served me divorce papers during a session I was paying for, and a false claim on a bogus restraining order. I found myself in a situation in life I never imaged I would be in. I was referred to Mike via a family friend and I am so grateful Mike picked up the phone the day I called. While my emotions bounced around and the world felt like it was crumbling around me. Mike was the voice in my ear I needed to hear to walk me through everything in front of me. With his years of experience Mike guided me through the various scenarios and situations that could take place depending on what I wanted to do. Guidance I feel only exists with someone of his experience and time in this profession. It never felt like Mike was trying to get additional hours out of me and or that I was just another billable client. Mike and his wife Laurie bring you into their group and do what they can to help you step into that next chapter of life. For those reasons and many more than I can type out on here, I recommend Michael Davis. Truly, one of the few that want to help because that is who they are as people and not looking to get rich off someone else's downfalls. Just talk with him and you will figure this out on your own.

I was referred to this lawyer by a friend that had gone through a divorce, and at the time I was looking for an amicable situation that turned sideways and he stayed by my side and helped me through a long divorce. (not because of me, but my ex was fighting the whole situation and was drinking and lying). Mr Davis took his time explaining different scenarios and how it could work out so I could make informed decisions. The job was done so well that I have hired him for other situations and consulted him for writing up other legal documents. (Promissory note and prenuptial agreement, learn from previous situation). I have come to consider him and his wife Laurie family friends. I highly recommend Michael Davis.

2 years ago I was hit by a car while on my bike. I'm an international student and had no idea what to do or how I was going to deal with all the medical insurance claims. I hired Scott and he was spectacular to work with. He went out of his way to reduce medical bills for me and explained in detail what each bill meant and what I should do. The advice he provided was spot on and as the driver was responsible, he helped me settle with the driver's insurance company. After getting a concussion from the accident and then being bombarded with letters and calls from the driver's insurance company, I doubt I would have had the same outcome without Scott's support and knowledge. I felt so taken care of at the firm, and Scott really took his time to sit down with me and work through the things I didn't understand, no detail was too small. I highly, highly recommend Scott's services.

Scott was honest about the expectations for our case, and was willing to take it even though many other lawyers had given me an attitude and told me our case was too small to bother with. My partner and I are both professionals and work hard for what we do have. I was put off by many of the other lawyers who wanted to charge an arm and a leg and insult me at the same time. Scott was down to earth, friendly and yet still professional. He checked in with us often, clarifying our wishes and represented us well. Just having him represent us made the other party back down and we are hoping they stay down, but if for whatever reason we have to go to court I will want Scott representing us again.

I recently hired Mr. Nathan to defend my business in a legal matter involving a financial dispute with an independent contractor. He was able to keep us out of court and got our business a settlement that far exceeded our expectations.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of North Tustin, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
