I don't normally write reviews, but this is a review I wholeheartedly recommend to an individual and family in need of an Asbestos and Mesothelioma Attorney. I contacted Mr. Brayton when I was in critical condition and was consulted by his staff with all my legal options. His entire staff are true professionals and make the entire litigation process extremely easy. If you want to be treated with respect, honesty, and want someone who will go the extra mile to ensure your success, HIRE Mr. Brayton.

I, 100% endorse this firm, and all of its staff. I have been in contact with some for different reasons. All have been very kind, prompt with questions. Very agreeably with me. I explained that I am deaf and cannot do phone calls, they email and text with me with no problems.

When my Father was diagnosed --- we did not know where to turn. The care and professionalism provided was incredible and beyond any expectation. Before and after my Father's death Mr. Brayton and his team have continued to fight for my family. It is comforting to know that he is our advocate. And, even today 10 years later --- we have him on our side --- getting results with the same passion and success we experienced the first day we walked in the door.

There are not a million stars or I would put the rating for Al Brayton at a million and one! From the moment my husband was diagnosed with mesothelioma, Al was personally there for us. He and his team dug back into years and years of asbestos exposure and expedited our case and personally followed up. I could not have imagined such care, concern and positive results. I could go on, but let me say that Al was there for us every step of the way. We were blessed to have Al represent us and highly recommend him to anyone who has a loved one experiencing mesothelioma.

My brother was diagnosed with Mesothelioma and was referred to Brayton and Purcell. My brother retained the firm to represent him. Throughout the investigation, the attorneys were very compassionate, respectful and very aware of his weakened condition. I attended the court sessions with my brother and was so impressed with the degree of preparation the firm did preparing the case for trial Very positive results due to the diligence of those involved. I highly recommend this firm of Brayton and Purcell. My brother had the utmost confidence in his attorney and relied upon him to represent him and he was not disappointed He was kept informed throughout the process Unfortunately my brother died from this horrible condition but not before learning of the results of his case. He was happy to hear HE WON

I lost my husband to mesothelioma. At the time I was devastated! I found myself without any real support or assistance. It was my good fortune, however, that my husband's former co-worker referred me to the law offices of Clapper, Patti, Schweizer & Mason. Not only did I find them unsurpassed in the area of law as it pertained to my case, but I will never forget the compassion and caring of Jack Clapper and every member of his staff that was extended to me at a time when I needed it most. The attention and assistance they gave me was what I sorely needed. I always had the assurance that my well-being was a high priority with them, and they lived up to my high expectations. Words cannot express my high regard for this firm. Despite the intervening years, I continue to regard them as friends, and I cannot say enough in praise of how they persevered on my behalf. If ever anyone needed the assistance of a dedicated and committed law firm, they could never find anyone of higher integrity and greater dedication. I'm so thankful these wonderful people were there for me! Respectfully, Esther Cobb

I was 74 years old when I was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma. At the time of my diagnosis I was a retired nurse. I was never occupationally exposed to asbestos. However I did breathe in asbestos fibers at home when I laundered my husband's dirty work clothes. My husband had worked in a foundry and at a ship–dismantling yard in Richmond, California. When we first consulted with another well–known asbestos law firm in California, and were disappointed when that firm rejected their case. We called Clapper, Patti, Schweizer & Mason, they determined that we were entitled to compensation. We sued my husband's employers. Clapper Patti Schweizer and Mason were able to develop evidence to prove that my husband's employers should have known about the hazards of asbestos, and should have taken steps to protect my husband's and our family members from being exposed to asbestos fibers. Clapper Patti Schweizer and Mason argued that my husband's employers had a duty to protect me from the asbestos my husband encountered at work, and that they failed to take any steps to prevent me from being exposed. Clapper Patti Schweizer and Mason argued that my husband's employers should have instructed their employees about asbestos hazards, that they should have provided them with breathing protection, and that they should have provided changing rooms and laundry facilities so the employees did not bring home fibers home to their families. We settled with the responsible companies just before trial for a total of $4.4 million.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Novato, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
