I had been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison, fortunately I hired Mr. Daley to do my appeal and because of his experience and hard work I am now a freed man, he is worth every penny.

Mr Daley represented me in a California 290 sex offender registration problem. I was cited for not properly registering. Mr. Daley was able to present enough information and evidence to the judge in pre-trial that the DA dismissed the case. It was clear Mr. Daley knew the law much better than the Assistant DA and the police. I am continuing to use him and his firm in furture actions

I hired Mr. Daley of the Innocence Legal Team last year (2012). My case was quite unique as there was virtually no case law relating to my situation. Mr. Daley was in constant communication with me in regards to the approach we had to take in order to resolve my issue. He explained to me in detail every aspect of what had to be done, how it would be done and other avenues we may have had to take if our initial case argument wasn't given merit through the case law available at the time. Mr. Daley did an outstanding job of finding pertinent case law that pertained to my situation and was proficient in representing me in court. The outcome was favorable for us and I can not thank him enough for his hard work. I found Mr. Daley to be honest, communicative and extremely capable in his profession. I have dealt with several other attorneys who were unwilling or unable to provide the same high level standard I expect and received from Mr. Daley. His integrity is beyond reproach based on my experience with him. Mr. Daley has a genuine desire to help and defend people with his legal expertise. When things got stressful, confusing or didn't go as planned (rescheduled court dates, etc....) he took the time to sit down in person or over the phone with me and my family and calm us all down. Mr. Daley returned all of my phone calls and e-mails promptly. Communication is the most important factor to me and Mr. Daley provided that, even going above and beyond what I expected from dealings with other attorneys. He is an excellent attorney and has a great team behind him as well. I have personally recommended him to several friends and family members should they ever need an attorney. His character is upstanding, his appearance is appropriate and his fees are more than acceptable and fair based on his abilities.

I consulted with three lawyers regarding a misdemeanor charge. Attorney Keydon Levy was by far the most compassionate and detail-oriented of those that I spoke to. He was exceptionally knowledgeable, courteous, and listened intently to my fears and concerns. Additionally, he laid out a sensible strategy for achieving dismissal prior to arraignment. The other lawyers I consulted with (at other law firms) were also nice, but seemed rushed and as if they didn’t care about my case that much. The district attorney ultimately declined to file charges against me, but should I ever need a lawyer in the future, I would call Keydon without hesitation.

Attorney Martin was extremely caring and extremely transparent in times where I felt the world was ending for my specific case. Constant communication, weekly updates, always ensuring we asked questions and every question is answered with the utmost detail. I couldn’t have asked for any better attorney to represent me. From start to finish and despite the length of our specific case , she always made sure to keep me in the loop to ensure we obtain the best outcome and I can’t emphasize on the transparency. No false promises , but concrete results. I didn’t picture myself where I am currently as I’m writing this post if it wasn’t for Attorney Martin, I am eternally grateful for the hard work put in to getting me back on my feet and allowing me to feel human despite mistakes that can occur as we journey through life. Thank you so much Attorney Martin. A super lawyer indeed!

Long story short, Manjula is a great lawyer. She communicates with you on your case, she'll tell you exactly what to do. My first DUI offense was waived down to a wet and reckless. The second offense was dismissed. I highly recommend her if you get in a bind.

2020 and covid led me to drink and drive and I ended up getting arrested during the holidays. I called Oakland DUI Attorneys and it was the best decision. I'm also glad I called right when I was released from Santa Rita jail because many attorneys didn't answer their phones because of the holidays but this DUI lawyer was free to talk and within 30 minutes of being on the phone with them, I ended hiring them. They are on top of their game when it comes to making sure you understand what the next steps are. This place is five stars for sure.

Kim is an excellent, seasoned lawyer who tells it like it is-- but in a nice way. She is a leader with her own practice-- this experience and expertise in the field makes Kim a big fish, and she would do well to take on larger clients engaging in new or existing business or real estate transactions. I can tell she is committed to honoring her humanitarian values when doing business: Scala is generous and cares about the people behind the deal and making sure that the agreement works out for everyone involved. She advised me on engaging in a new business venture and I couldn't be more happy with her response and our interaction. Kim also was a small business owner herself-- so she understands the legality of an endeavor but also the other intangible rewards that make us entrepreneurs. Highly recommended for general business counsel, contracts law, strategic advising, real estate.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Oakland, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
