I hired Robert to represent me for my 3rd DUI. As you can imagine I was very concerned and this was very important to me and my family. My experience with Mr Byers began well. I met with him at his office in Oakland and he seemed very knowledgeable and comforting during this really stressful time of my life. Up until I handed him mine and my families hard earned cash. For reasons unknown to me the DA took 11 months to file charges on my case and that time was very stressful waiting for court. None of which was Roberts fault. But the least the guys could do is answer his phone or respond to my voicemails and text to call me back. Of the 8-10 times I tried to contact him or get a call back I talked with him maybe 3 times. Usually through a vague text. I understand we had to be patient and wait for court but I had questions I wanted answers to and I figured 3500 dollars earned me that even if the questions were stupid to an attorney, your clients aren't attorneys. We have questions. Anyways, we finally get an arraignment date. He appears for me and contacts me after asking "did you know this was your 3rd DUI? This is very serious." Yeah no s*** that's why I spent 3500 dollars on a lawyer. Sentencing day finally comes. He's not even there it's some other guy. We take a deal for me to do a residential rehab program. The other attorney assures me we will find a program suitable for me and my family and to contact Robert to get started on it. That evening I spoke to Mr Byers and he told me he would help me find a program. Which if anybody reading knows is very difficult. That was the last I spoke to him. I called him multiple times over the next two weeks and sent him multiple text the last one reading, "if your time as my attorney has expired please just have the decency to let me know" I got nothing. I was left completely in the dark to figure out the rest for myself. All I asked for was some honesty for my 3500 dollars. I feel like I completely wasted my money. Could have got the same results with a PD or at least a 1000-1500 dollar DUI attorney. I will say I was referred by a buddy who had nothing but great experiences with Mr Byers, as did a lot of other reviewers. But this was my honest experience. I understand it was a pretty open and shut guilty case for me but jeez, 3500 bucks you could at least answer and TRY to be somewhat supportive. Best of luck to you all.
