I'm very grateful to Cecily. She was the only person that took the time to review with detail my case. I was told by three different attorneys that I had a difficult case and gave me no hope. celcily was very confident of what needed to be done and needed from me.! I've had my green card for over a month Thanks to her patience and knowledge. She is indeed the professional that anyone would be glad to work with .!

Cecily was professional and clear from the beginning in terms of what she could do for my wife and I. She gave us wonderful advice of what to expect with every step of the process. She also kept us informed on the best case scenario and worst case scenario at all times, as well as where on the spectrum she expected us to fall. When a period of time went by with no new information, she advocated for us and got results, which was particularly impressive! I would recommend her to anyone dealing with immigration, as she knows the law and has personal experience which was invaluable to my wife, who had a lot of anxiety surrounding our case. I cannot sing her enough praises. My wife and I feel she is the reason our process went smoothly and stress-free.

Three years ago, I was walking outside of Kmart when two friends and I were detained by I.C.E. in Fairfield California. I was held in a detention facility in Seattle Washington for about a month. My two friends were deported and I was sure that any day I'd be next. I decided to take the option to fight my case in court. I was released on bail. I was confused about the immigration laws and had no clue how to go about fighting my case. I was recommended the law firm of Mrs. Clements and it was the best decision of my life. Cecily Clements made the process incredibly easy to understand. She help me with each step along the way. She has changed my life. After a 3 year battle in immigration court. I was granted residency at the end of 2012. I can't thank her enough for what she has done for my wife and I. She is an amazing lawyer and I'm glad I put my trust in her. She gave me a future to look forward to. I recommend Cecily to everyone i know. So if your stressed out, feeling desperate and confusing don't worry there is someone that can help. I was in the same situation. I worried about loosing my wife and my family and being sent back to Mexico. But Cecily Clements changed all that. Call her it will be well worth it.

When I first met Cecily outside of her work environment and she brought such trust that I was able to talk to her about my immigration status, something that I never talked to with anyone because of fear to be rejected by my peers. Cecily then shared that she was an immigration lawyer and right away gave me the confidence that I needed to proceed with my case. Not only did she recommend I apply she also convinced us that my husband can apply as well and thanks to her expertise and recommendations I can say that we have a bright future ahead of us to be successful and provide our daughters with a positive future. Cecily was always clear with our case and talked to us with lots of confidence that never let us doubt her professionalism. Cecily was very prompt in responding all my phone calls, emails, and always kept us informed every step of this journey. Cecily has brought so much happiness and peace to our family by helping us adjust our immigration status that I will never stop thanking her for all her hard work, long shifts, and weekend appointment to accommodate us in every way possible. We felt really connected to her because she really understood our concerns and needs. Thank you Cecily for giving me that little push I needed! You have helped change my life in such a positive way that there are no words to express how thankful I we are to have crossed paths with you.

We could not be happier with our decision to choose Cecily Clements to be our lawyer. She helped us make sense of confusing immigration law and she made a process that felt overwhelming much more manageable. We were so scared to start this process and Cecily expertly guided us through, easing our fears and making us feel more confident. Most importantly, Cecily put together a solid case for us that got us the results we so desperately wanted - a green card! Her work is so thorough and complete. She left no stone unturned and met with us many times to ensure accuracy. She checks, double-checks, and triple-checks everything and we always felt secure and safe being represented by her. Not only is she an incredible lawyer, but she is also extremely friendly and easy to work with. Her engaging personality and excellent work ethic are an amazing combination. We are so grateful that we found Cecily! She made our dreams come true and our family could not be any happier!

Kim is an excellent, seasoned lawyer who tells it like it is-- but in a nice way. She is a leader with her own practice-- this experience and expertise in the field makes Kim a big fish, and she would do well to take on larger clients engaging in new or existing business or real estate transactions. I can tell she is committed to honoring her humanitarian values when doing business: Scala is generous and cares about the people behind the deal and making sure that the agreement works out for everyone involved. She advised me on engaging in a new business venture and I couldn't be more happy with her response and our interaction. Kim also was a small business owner herself-- so she understands the legality of an endeavor but also the other intangible rewards that make us entrepreneurs. Highly recommended for general business counsel, contracts law, strategic advising, real estate.

Attorney Martin was extremely caring and extremely transparent in times where I felt the world was ending for my specific case. Constant communication, weekly updates, always ensuring we asked questions and every question is answered with the utmost detail. I couldn’t have asked for any better attorney to represent me. From start to finish and despite the length of our specific case , she always made sure to keep me in the loop to ensure we obtain the best outcome and I can’t emphasize on the transparency. No false promises , but concrete results. I didn’t picture myself where I am currently as I’m writing this post if it wasn’t for Attorney Martin, I am eternally grateful for the hard work put in to getting me back on my feet and allowing me to feel human despite mistakes that can occur as we journey through life. Thank you so much Attorney Martin. A super lawyer indeed!

Long story short, Manjula is a great lawyer. She communicates with you on your case, she'll tell you exactly what to do. My first DUI offense was waived down to a wet and reckless. The second offense was dismissed. I highly recommend her if you get in a bind.

2020 and covid led me to drink and drive and I ended up getting arrested during the holidays. I called Oakland DUI Attorneys and it was the best decision. I'm also glad I called right when I was released from Santa Rita jail because many attorneys didn't answer their phones because of the holidays but this DUI lawyer was free to talk and within 30 minutes of being on the phone with them, I ended hiring them. They are on top of their game when it comes to making sure you understand what the next steps are. This place is five stars for sure.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Oakland, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
