My fiance and I decided to move to downtown Los Angeles about a year and a half ago for an uber-urban experience before relegating ourselves to a life in suburbia. Because we had a large breed of dog, our options for lofts were somewhat limited. Despite the copious amounts of negative Yelp reviews, we chose an SB property due to their lack of breed restrictions. Just days after we moved in, the nightmare began. We filed numerous noise complaints, had several major plumbing issues, homeless people finding their way past the security and using the common areas for...well, you get the point. When it was finally time to move out, the manager (the third one in a year) cancelled our walk-through inspection days before our lease expired. After moving the entirety of our belongings out, I cleaned the loft and even patched the nail holes (few as there were) because I knew the SB group was notorious for keeping deposits. After waiting for over thirty days for a deposit refund check, I called SB's corporate office to see what the status was. I was informed that they did not have our new address, that they were keeping our over $1,700 deposit, and they would send us a bill for an addition sum of over $200 that they felt that we owed them. It was at this point that we sought legal advice and we are so happy to have found Erin. With a letter and a phone call, she had the slum lords playing nice. She was extremely professional and patiently answered all of our questions regarding the case. We were kept informed of all of the progress that was made as it happened and we were not once left wondering if we had made the right decision. We got more than we expected back and would turn to Erin again in heartbeat, if we needed to.
