The process of establishing a Trust and Will went very well. Kurt is friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and went out of his way several times to patiently help us understand what needed to be done. He greatly assisted with filling in documents required by Banks, Federal and Health care institutions that otherwise would have been a struggle for us. He is generous with his time, always helping us whenever needed. We certainly would highly recommend him to anyone looking to set up a Trust and Will.

I had an awful experience with one particular female lawyer. She took more than $3000 and did not represent me in family court. Instead her and the corrupt individuals railroaded me. Violated my right as a parent. They went on to grant my abusive mother custody and adoption while I layer incoherent due to an automobile accident. She even tried to charge me again and threatened to sue me for the money stating I never paid her for doing nothing. She never represented me and sue to my inability to fight she abused her power as an attorney. This firm should know exactly what kind of person she is. Truth will prevail and she will be seen as guilty.

I needed a lawyer to help me file and set up custody/visitation and child support during a very ugly separation. I was getting out of a very bad situation and my case was extremely complicated. Before I retained Mr. Lacy, I was completely mentally and emotionally drained. He was extremely knowledgeable and helped dissect everything leaving no stone unturned. Working with his team, he was able to sift through everything so that I could take a step back and breathe and take care of my children. He was very professional and genuinely a great person. He was able to help me get everything settled and when it was needed, he fought hard for me. Even after the case was finished, I've needed to call on him several times when my ex opened new cases and he was always there to assist. In addition to the child support, custody, and visitation orders he helped put in place, he helped me with a move away order, and helped when my ex filed 2 different requests for modification. I would absolutely recommend this firm, as they have helped translate legal jargon, fill and send documents, work with opposing counsel, alleviate so much of the stress, and so much more. Even when opposing counsel was extremely petty and rude, Mr. Lacy was able to navigate through it remaining on top and was always the bigger person. The level of service I received changed my life forever and I will always be grateful for the impact that Mr. Lacy's representation made in my life and my children's lives.

Jeffery Lacy represented me in my divorce. First, I would like to say that he did an outstanding job, and his professionalism is to be admired. Mr. Lacy was sincere and thorough during the entire process. Divorce is a very physical, emotional, and stressful process. Mr. Lacy was very impactful in helping soothe the process for my wife and me. Mr. Lacy's ability to listen and understand our needs were impeccable. He made it amicable for both of us. Without genuine caring, dedication to the case, and his ability to be an outstanding listener, we both may have clashed on issues that would have derailed the process. Mr. Lacy demonstrated omnipotent skills during the process, which allowed us to settle without her having to obtain an attorney and us agreeing on the Marriage Settlement Agreement (MSA) that he designed for us. Mr. Lacy's style of working with us was superlative. I thank you for your dedication and how you lead us to a win-win settlement. BNA

Jeff and Janet Lacy appear to have made a crooked career of stirring up false conflicts and throwing gasoline on the fire. They managed to stretch a completely baseless dispute over eight years and keep billing until they lost the case. Their fraud was eventually exposed, their client was humiliated and they were forced to stipulate to opposing counsel's settlement terms without a single edit when confronted with strong evidence of their fraud in furtherance of a conspiracy to commit extortion. Their relentlessly dishonest and unethical behavior and failure to respond to dozens of Meet and Confer requests over a period of years is just the tip of the iceberg. Their conduct throughout our case was appalling and repugnant, and the fact pattern is being used as a textbook example of attorney misconduct at a local law school. My son was deprived of necessary medical treatment for his ADHD condition for a period of THREE YEARS as a direct result of the Lying Lacy's aggressive actions and fraudulent filings. In the end, they failed to protect their client's interests and seem lazy, unresponsive and incompetent. Caveat emptor - AVOID LIKE CORONAVIRUS !!

Had the opportunity to work with Ms. Lisbette Baltazar, Ms. Baltazar provided the ideal support that you would expect from a big firm. Ms. Baltazar explained the process and made sure we understood everything. I believe Ms. Baltazar and her partner Ms. Sanchez are on to something good here, I can’t wait to see what else they accomplish. They both work well together, put their clients first, and make sure they are doing what’s in best interest of their client, without charging an arm and leg. Thank you Ms. Sanchez.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Oceanside, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
