I hired David Nick and during his time on my case he was sanctioned 3K dollars. He also appeared late to a hearing which was followed by a reprimand by the judge. I watched attorney Nick for the first time in court, and when the judge asked him a simple question, his response was nothing like his written legal brief, he seemed to forget what he had written. Mr. Nick was paid 20k dollars for a trial but when the case didn't allow for a trial and Mr. Nick refused to return the money. I am forced to file a complaint with the State Bar. When confronted about the problems Mr. Nick caused in my case, he arrogantly denied any and all of the facts. Mr. Nick claims to be a Navy veteran, I also am a veteran, who regrets ever hiring him.

Many years ago, during a time that was SO ambiguous in federal bs. State laws that anymore and their mother could've been arrested - this amazing lawyer named J David Nick and his associate saved me and my boyfriend from years of false imprisonment. Being framed basically, his associate and him devised a strategic plan which led the accusers right into purgering themselves during deposition. Never even went to court. BEST LAWYER EVER.

Mr. Weitkamp is honest as the day is long. He gives every client his complete attention and exemplary advice and guidance. The many contributions he makes as a volunteer for worthy causes throughout the community attests to his deep sense of compassion for those less fortunate. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants an attorney they can truly trust.

We brought an interesting case to Mr. Darrin that required him to be extremely methodical and creative throughout the process. Mr. Darrin navigated the complexity of the case as a seasoned professional. Not only did we prevent the defendant from walking away with all of our money, we controlled the disbursement of funds that were held in escrow until we came to a full and mutually beneficial resolution. I’d highly recommend Mr. Darrin for Real Estate and Business matters.

I am currently working with Mr. Darrin on a case where locating a participating partner has been very difficult. Although we have not made definitive contact yet, we are working on several excellent leads thanks to the work of Mr. Darrin and his supporting team of experts. I am optimistic we will reach a satisfactory conclusion to this case very soon. Regardless of the eventual outcome, the process of working with Mr. Darrin has been delightful, very professional, and most congenial with excellent progress to date. I recommend Mr. Darrin very highly and would work with him without hesitation should the need arise.

6/12/13 My sister and I were very interested in starting our own restaurant. The idea of setting up the business was intimidating to say the least. After retaining David as our attorney all of our apprehension disappeared. He covered the different ways of setting up our business explaining the advantages of going with a Limited Liability Company (LLC) in easy to understand terms, keeping us informed every step of the way. I’m very impressed with his accessibility; I can contact him any time, either by phone or email. David handles himself in a very professional manner, always giving sound advice. And his services are very reasonably priced. Moving forward, I will continue to seek David’s legal advice.

Brent handled my mediation regarding a real estate dispute. Even though an attorney is not required at mediation I was very pleased at his due diligence. If he was not involved I do not feel the result would have been favorable. I would definitely recommend Brent Clemmer as he is one great attorney!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Palm Springs, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
