Josh handled a probate for our family, and throughout the entire process, he was friendly, patient (always willing to answer my long list of questions) had great insight and so professional. Smooth all along the way. Thankful to have Josh and his experienced and wonderful paralegal Kelsey on our side. I cannot recommend Josh enough!

Josh was an absolute joy to deal with. All my questions not one time did he make me feel dumb for asking. He was very informative and helpful with his recommendations and explaining everything in why he thought it was best. For all the knowledge and help he was very decently priced. Couldn’t have chose a better lawyer to help. Thank you so much Josh!

First I have to say I was very impressed with the knowledge this young man has about the law and how he was able to explain everything to me in a way I could understand. I felt comfortable working with him and recommend him to everyone.

I was in need of a good elder care law attorney and finally found one. As many of us do I asked around and read a few reviews. I met with 3 different law firms during my frustrating and drawn out search. Until, I met Joshua, he had me at his white board and dry eraser markers. Joshua was the first and only attorney who literally Painted a picture of what I needed, and the steps it would take to get things done. He explained the plan that would best work for me, while he mapped it out on the white board. Suddenly for the first time I finally understood a half fraction of how the law works. Joshua and his team are very professional, something I picked up on before my very first visit. In the mail I received a very well written detailed appointment letter explaining exactly what was going to happen at our first meeting. This letter also contained driving directions to their office and a small summary about the firm. Needless to say I was impressed before I even showed up and I knew this was not going to be like the confusing, fustrating, unhelpful appointments I had in the past . If you are looking for a professional, kind and extremely knowledgeable attorney call Joshua and his team, he was referred to me and far exceeded my expectations.

I want to thank the Aoudi Law Firm for settling my case and making it easy for me to navigate this complex process with the insurance company. Dana was my attorney and she was communicative with me the entire time the firm had my case. I appreciated this because I was constantly updated on the status of my case. Dana also explained every step and genuinely cared about my health. Thank you very much for settling my case in such a short time! I would 100% recommend Aoudi Law to anyone who was injured at work.

I had a wonderful experience with The Wagon Legacy in setting up my new estate planning documents. Their prices were very competitive, and they walked me through every step of the process and made sure that assets and other items were correctly documented as being in the estate. I didn’t think about some of these things on my own and am grateful for their advice. I am now relieved that passing on my estate will be a stress-free experience to my heirs. Highly recommended!

A Trust isn't for the person or couple creating it. It's to ease the burden of Estate Management and settlement during an emotionally challenging time. A comprehensive, organized Trust and support staff is a costly investment in your life legacy. Shopping for price, while a natural tendency should be less crucial than obtaining a complete, durable and legally sound end of life plan. Our experience with The Wagon Legacy was excellent, from the support staff, paralegals to the Trust attorneys. They were very organized and provided us with a step-by-step process which included a series of meetings adequately spaced apart so we could complete all necessary paperwork, documents, forms, etc. This ensured that every meeting was productive and they were just that. We walked away with a comprehensive Trust Binder and confidence that the support will also be provided by The Wagon Legacy once it is time for it to be administered. I highly recommend The Wagon Legacy.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Placentia, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
