Working with Peter Vittas is a pleasure. I am so happy to have found such a personable lawyer online. His fees are very reasonable and he is very generous with his time. Each time I met with Peter, my stress level decreased. He made the process of creating my will, trust and other documents as easy as possible. I highly recommend Peter Vittas.

Peter made the process so easy and efficient for us. Everything was done online and he held our hands every step of the way. He is very thorough and professional with attention to detail. This was my first time doing this and I expected to be sitting in a lawyer’s office for hours with the billing clock running. Not with Peter! I am a retired computer consultant and I appreciate having a proven process to drive complex problems to satisfactory conclusions and that’s how Peter does it.

Peter helped me, a senior citizen, prepare concise and up to date estate plan documents that I had long postponed doing. I highly commend Peter and his law firm for quick and professional attention to all of my concerns. I can rest easy now and will contact Peter for any future work. I found his fee to be most reasonable.

I would definitely recommend Peter. I was the Trustee of one of my best friend's Trust, but there were issues with the retirement accounts not being recognized by a major investment firm in the Trust. Peter helped me go through the unduly arduous process of CA probate court and appealing to the investment firm to get the funds released for the beneficiaries. He not only kept me updated on the process, he went out of his way to call the courts and the staffers to make sure all the docs were in line for each step, so we didn't get bounced and have to repeat the process. He was personally vested in my case. Thanks!

I worked with Meyer Law on a project based in Chicago several years ago. I'm really happy to hear they're expanding to California, as Tricia and Melody were absolutely amazing to work with. They were always very informative and easy to communicate with - traits that are paramount to find in your attorneys, yet not always easy to find. Their influence was invaluable in the early part of my entrepreneurial journey, as I felt that I received not only well more than my money's worth in legal services, but an education in some very fundamental entrepreneurial principles. I'll always be grateful.

This women-led law firm has managed all legal and protection aspects of my business with remarkable expertise and efficiency. Their responsiveness and thorough understanding of the legal landscape have provided me with immense peace of mind. As a fellow woman entrepreneur, it’s incredibly rewarding to work with a team that not only excels in their field but also supports and uplifts women in business. Meyer Law's commitment and professionalism are truly outstanding, and I highly recommend their services to any business in need of reliable legal support.

Linda represented us for over 7 years in complex, multinational deals as well as more day-to-day matters (production financing, talent negotiations, and some general corporate and commercial). Her advice was always smart, pragmatic, and clear (as a busy GC , I didn't have any hesitation in having her deal directly with my C-suite execs). She left private practice and we miss having her in our court.

The attorneys at Sally Morin are excellent. While walking in a crosswalk with a "WALK" light flashing, my elderly mother was struck by a vehicle. My mother suffered a broken leg, along with other superficial injuries. After nearly 1.5 years of physical therapy, my mother is now able to walk reasonably normally, although much of the damage is permanent. We engaged Sally Morin's lawyers to handle the claim. The attorneys and staff have extensive experience handling pedestrian-vehicle injury claims. The entire staff, including attorneys and paralegals, are all very competent and professional. All my mother was tasked to do was to keep the attorneys apprised of her recovery (e.g., appointments, outcomes, tests, test results, etc.), keep track of payments for items purchased to promote her recovery and/or to allow her to live in a house with limited mobility (e.g., wheelchair rental, crutches, bathroom modifications, exercise bicycle, braces), and to provide relevant documents (e.g., receipts, insurance documents). When the dust finally settleed, we were able to obtain the maximum settlement amount, based on the policy limits of the driver. As an attorney myself, I wanted to make sure that my elderly mother was represented by attorneys who are experts in their fields, and who are thorough and detail-oriented. I found this in Sally Morin's attorneys. In particular, Annie Levitt Heller was excellent. She answered all of our questions and helped guide us through this unfamiliar process, to secure an excellent outcome for my family. In case of any personal injury, I would wholeheartedly, and without reservation, recommend the attorneys at Sally Morin Law.

Annie Heller is perfection! I was referred to Annie by an attorney in my office and knew from the moment I first spoke with her that she would be the right person for the job. I spoke with her many times prior to initiating litigation and each time she took a lot of time to explain the process. After litigation was initiated, she kept me apprised of everything that was going on with my case. I never had to ask for a status of my case because she always provided me with updates. My case settled during mediation. She worked very hard and the end result was much more than I had anticipated. She is passionate about her job, meticulous with her work product and gives her undivided attention to her clients. I would give her 10 stars if I could and would recommend her to anyone looking for a "gold star" personal injury lawyer. The all female team at this firm is exceptional.

I cannot recommend Annie from Sally Morin enough. Not only is she extremely personable, but her communication with me throughout the entire process was above and beyond what I would have ever expected. She is so profession and passionate about what she does. 10/10 experience, would rate higher if I could!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Playa Vista, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
