Recently, I found myself in a potentially disasterous situation, and when I called for Mr. Thorman (who I had previously retained on a different case) I was told he had retired. Panic! However, Mr. Jared Winter stepped in for the rescue, literally. First conversation: He informed me that he consulted with another lawyer prior to returning my call. I immediately felt a sense of relief (brainstorming among intellectuals often yields better results) at his honesty and then his advice that he gave me. The consult was a goldmine: he instantly informed me what not to do (which incidently resulted in me not getting charged) and informed me what my legal obligations were. Later that day I required more help as few more details came to light: I received a call back about 20 minutes later and he helped me with my option to navigate through my situation. When it did not work, the following business day Mr. Winter handled my issue with the police officer in such a manner that I did not have to personally meet/talk or even look at the officer. Mr. Winter mentioned the officer asked me to come in-person & hand some paperwork, however my lawyer maneuvered it so that it was e-mailed instead. Lastly, during my first conversation Mr. Winter asked if I was okay, injury wise. It completely caught me off guard. It was unexpected and honestly refreshing! I've worked with a few lawyers and in my experience most were very "as a matter of fact" and focused only on prepping me on what to expect. I don't remember anyone ever asking me if I was okay.

Life is a complicated thing. As you attempt to make the best of it, we all make mistakes along the way. With my mistakes came consequences. I was arrested for making bad decisions, and I needed legal representation. I was arrested in Nevada, and because I was facing 3 felonies in California, I was held on a 30 day extradite hold at CCDC in Las Vegas. Because I was on a hold I didn't have a public defender or anybody representing me. If California wanted to pick me up, they had 30 days to come get me. I could have waited the 30 days, but regardless if California came or not, my warrants would still be active. I would have the same monkeys on my back as before the 30 days. A strong support system insisted that this can be handled differently than me just waiting. I decided to hire a lawyer. My mother did some research and found a firm where I was blessed with Jared Christian Winters. These charges were old, marijuana based, but still felonies. I am a professional and I couldn't bare being a felon. I didn't know if a lawyer could really do anything for me on an extradite. My boss is who translated everything to me because I was locked up, and he dealt with my lawyer more than I did. As time continued while locked up, Jared continued to fight for me. I felt comfortable with everything as he progressed through this case. I was in jail and I wasn't afraid. He pulled all punches to get this extradite lifted and me released. He was able to get my charges reduced in California, without me there, because I was in jail. Then with just misdemeanors it was evident that if I was in California, I would already be released. That made it clear that they weren't coming. It just had one problem, Clark County wouldn't facilitate the lift on the Nevada side. Mr. Winter went at it again. He eventually got my charges reduced, and was able to get my lift released with a citation signed by a lawyer in Nevada. From what I hear this is very rare. Not too many cases end in a lifted extradite hold. My original release date was on Thanksgiving of 2018. I was released a week early and got to spend the holiday with my family. This alone made hiring Jared as my lawyer the smartest thing I could have ever done when my freedom is at stake. After I was released, I called him and asked if we can hire him again. He went to court on those original felony charges that he was able to reduce while I was incarcerated in another state. Following court on December 13th, my entire case is dismissed. We all make mistakes, and we all deserve another chance. Sometimes we need life to give us a break. I thank you Jared Christian Winter for getting me that break, allowing me to move on with my life, and taking those monkeys off my back. I highly suggest others with legal issues do the same.

I've worked with other attorneys in the past mostly for family law, custody, divorce ect..... I hired Mr. Winter for a restraining order situation that I was in with a tenant that lived on my property. I was extremely pleased with his services. He was so on top of things! The whole entire process felt so streamlined. He made what could have been a very stressful situation very un-stressful. he was very responsive with communication and he also charged me a flat rate, which is so great!!!! I would definitely hire him again as well as highly recommend him to friends and family.

After hiring another attorney employed with Jared's employer, Jared got assigned to my case after my original attorney left to start his own practice. My future was definitely hanging in the balance, and it was Jared's conversations with the presiding judge and the DA which allowed me to enjoy an outcome which enabled me to remain a free man - able to continue life as I know it. I would heartily recommend him to anyone in need of an excellent defense attorney.

Jared represented me for my second DUI. As a multiple offender with a very high BAC, I was terrified. (Apparently I was so trashed that I didn't have a recollection of giving blood at the police station...) My horror scenarios about the punishment that awaited me were proven right when, on our first appearance, the DA wanted me to serve 22 days in jail. A number of health issues kept me from going to subsequent court dates, which Jared handled for me, allowing me to focus on my health and my recovery. When we finally went to sentencing, Jared convinced the DA and the judge to waive all jail time (22 days!) My "punishment" was going to AA/NA meetings twice a week while I was on probation. The outcome was astonishingly good. But that's not the only thing that sets Jared apart from other lawyers. Throughout the proceedings, which lasted from July 2017 to February 2018, he was kind, compassionate and steadfast in his support of me well beyond the scope of the case. He is a natural empath. He knows how helpless we feel when we confront the legal system and he responds with a highly unusual combination of confidence, competence and kindness. I will never forget when, confronted with health issues that made me a less-than-reliable client, he said, simply: "I'll take care of it." And he did. At the time I recall thinking: "When was the last time someone (anyone!) said that to me so plainly and so bereft of annoyance, and then followed through?" Jared is also the only lawyer who *always* responded to my calls within the business day, if not immediately; and he never made me feel like I was over-taxing him, even though he was helping me on a fixed-fee basis. If you want to be in good hands and get the best representation you could possibly hope for, this is the person to consult. I am a cynic and naturally distrust lawyers. If you are like me and you have the good fortune to be represented by Jared, you might find that he changes your mind. Sometimes its hard to have our basic views of the world shattered. Rarely, however, it is a wonderful and uplifting surprise!

Lynn and Teresa were very accommodating throughout the whole process. They answered all of my questions as this was my first offense and the process was unfamiliar for myself. Lynn saved my career and without her I would not be able to work in my career field today. I was able to keep my driver license as it is a condition of my employment and I am very grateful that I picked Lynn to represent me. I highly recommend Lynn Gorelick.

Adam Gruen was recommended by an attorney with whom I had known for for years as the fellow to call for help with a frustrating litigation situation that occurred with a product I purchased and applied for my construction product. I unfortunately hired a different lawyer to help out at first with the objective of simply writing a letter to my insurance company to get them involved and represent me which is why I pay for insurance, Instead of writing a letter to demand my insurance get involved this other lawyer from Orinda, ca., went without my authorization and charged up within a week time over $10,000 dollars in what he said was research, his secretary copied typical stuff online in an impressive but useless folder, I was out of town when this nonsense was performed. I was then fortunately referred to Adam Gruen, not only did adam get my insurance involved immediately with a well written letter, but wrote a letter to the so called previous avaricious lawyer that kept sending me bills for over 10,000 dollars weekly, for his very useless online information. If you have an issue Adam will tell you up front if he can hlep, if he says he can, he does. If he feels he can't help he has the foresight to say he can't help without wasting your's or his time. Great guy to call for legal advice and or representation. Kirk G

Anyone who has ever heard of Ms. Dahm will know her reputation as being among the very best criminal defense attorneys. Her reputation is not remotely exaggerated. I have consulted with her on countless matters, including while I was a federal prosecutor and sought her critical eye and creative advocacy. I have observed her obtain not guilty verdicts for homicide and other violent crimes cases, where the evidence suggested she ought not have prevailed. She is exceptional.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pleasanton, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
