I have nothing but positive things to say. Usually in life we hope to never find ourselves in a situation where we need a lawyer, however I could not be more grateful I found Tierney Law Group. Kent Tierney is professional, gracious, and will fight for you. When working with Kent, I could tell he is a man of integrity and could feel his genuine compassion for people. He is highly skilled in his field and I never doubted his expertise and judgement when handling my case. Personally, I am not an expert when it comes to legal knowledge. Kent was very patient, walked me through each step of the process, and made things clear and concise. He was always welcoming and never made me feel foolish for asking questions or for want I needed. He was honest and provided me with reasonable expectations and peace of mind throughout. In the end, Tierney Law Group resolved my case to my complete satisfaction with less stress and pain than I ever would have expected. Before hiring Tierney Law Group, I absolutely dreaded having to get a lawyer. Now, I cannot imagine a smoother process. I cannot thank Kent Tierney and his team enough for how they handled my case! If you need a lawyer, do not hesitate to go with Tierney Law Group, you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend their team for Family Law, but I have no doubt they can do it all!

Kent was very knowledgable about what needed to be done regarding my case and situation. He was always very truthful and didn't sugar coat things, which was refreshing. If something was not the most beneficial for me, he told me so, rather than just proceeding along, charging me the whole way! Since my case has been done, I've contacted him with a couple of questions, and he always gets back to me, and has been really helpful. He's very trustworthy and I would have no problems using him again for anything if necessary. This is how professional attorneys are supposed to be, and he's great!

I found Mr. Tierney using Yelp. His reviews were excellent. He wrote a contract for my wife and I on a construction project. We have also used Mr. Tierney for several cases related to rental properties (evictions). He was very reasonable with his fees and extremely knowledgable. I don't write many reviews but I felt obligated to leave a review on Avvo because of their rating system. We investigated Mr. Tierney and were comfortable using him, we found him to be honest and extemely helpful. Don't rely on one site's rating system without investigating any attorney your going to use completely using all available resources.

Kent has done a Phenomenal job for our company. He and his team handles our eviction process from UD request (file/serve/file) throught Civil Court Hearings and to Sheriff Lock out filings. His knowledge and responsivness of and to the entire process has served our company well with the large amount of volume we require service on each year. Our success and effeciencies have greatly improved with Mr. Tierney representing us.

I had spent a week calling law firms all over the east bay, needing assistance with a trust. I hit one roadblock after another. Either the firms didn't return calls, wouldn't even give me a consult for 6 weeks, or reviewed the paperwork and just didn't want to be bothered. And then some were just flat out not nice. I was trying to sell property and I was working under some time constraints. I had zero expectations when I called Hall Law Group. They were probably my 20th phone call. Imagine my surprise when they put me right through to Angie their paralegal. I explained what I was trying to do. Right out of the gate, she said absolutely they could help. I sent over some paperwork that she requested. Before the day was over, she had advised me of the path forward, what they would be doing on their end, and scheduled a phone consultation with Attorney Mike Hall. I couldn't believe how quickly she had the process moving forward. Mike, as well as everyone on his team, have been just a breeze to work with. They are all genuinely nice people who are all great at what they do. They had our trust issue handled and it was so painless and hassle free. After reviewing some of our other trust documents, Mike had the foresight to advise that we handle some items now, that we would have had to return to complete later down the line. I highly recommend them for Trust and Probate help. Thank you to everyone at Hall Law Group for all of your help.

Archana Srivastava, Esq. is a wonderful lawyer. She has helped me navigate custody issues with a difficult ex husband. I wish I had taken the advice she gave me in several instances. I should have listened to her because she was trying to guide me to compromising on things instead of fighting my ex. I regret not listening to her more because she knew what she was talking about. She wanted to resolve things in a constructive way which is one of the many reasons why I think Archana is a great lawyer.

We feel so happy have met Brian Quall when we needed to update our living Trust. We are elderly, but never felt the least bit condescended to. Brian was so kind and clear about the process and answered any and all questions that we had. He informed us of all that was required from us and what his role and responsibilities were. After signing the final document we breathed a sigh of relief and realized just how easy and painless the process was for us thanks to Brian's expertise.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pleasanton, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
