I had occasion to hire John Maclyman and it was It was a great choice. I found him to be attentive listener who took copeus notes, His questions were pertinent to my case In the interview me of him / him of me, I felt he was genuinely interested in my predicament. At no time was wondering what was happening with my case. He and his secretary / legal assistant kept me aprised as to what was going on. Kudos to his secretary Pam who was instrumental in helping me get through this quirky situation. We tried to resolve some issues as mandated by the court but to no avail. It was then Game On! Went to court and I could not have happier to have him as my 'champion'. He lawyer'd well and because of this I was / am extremely happily satisfied with the outcome. For anyone seeking a honest, competent through and empathic counselor; I enthusiastically recommend John J. Maclyman ESQ.

Beware of this Attorney. John Maclyman Is An ABSOLUTELY horrible attorney. I regret hiring him for me. He DOES NOT, I will repeat DOES NOT get anything done. Him and His office Staff Para Legal assistant (so she call herself) Have no idea on giving any answers. Every time you walk out of his office you feel unsure of what you are paying him for. And, trust me you will be paying for everything for nothing that gets done. You your self will have to do all the following up for them to keep on your case. You will have no idea on whats going on with you situation until you your self follow up. He will drag out you case as long as he can just to keep charging to your amount. I have a simple case that could and should of been finished within a few months, and still now 3 yrs later is still opened with money that's is spend for nothing. If you call you wont get a return call back for days or even maybe not at all (such as my case) , you will be the one to call back. And, then of course he will lie and say he tried to return the calls. Over all I am sorry to hire John Maclyman. I was referred from a different attorney office because it was not what they specialized in. I will make the attempt to contacted them as well to state the kind of attorney they are referring out.I am sure they would want to know to save their own reputation. I hope that I will save the stress and money for someone else by writing this.. And by the way, I also tried emailing them to try to get some kind of call back and their response was they don't check there email. I thought that was odd. If i can rate with Zero stars i would...

John, was the best attorney. Nobody really has any control of the judges in rancho or san bernardino. They are the ones who keep postponing cases. Which is bogus. John helped me with my divorce case in every way and I will always be so very thankful to him for all he has done. Thanks John, Pam and the other very nice ladies in the office. Thank you for everything,.

I had the honor and pleasure of having Mr. Ryan Burke represent me in a very complex matter. I was so fortunate that he agreed to represent me. From the very beginning, he was very responsive to my questions, he did a thorough analysis of the case factors, and made realistic recommendations. For almost 1 year I had received no results with other legal professionals, until I started working with Mr. Ryan Burke. His legal documents were so powerful, aggressive, and spot on, that the opposing side complied with all of our demands. They provided me with exactly what I had requested within 1-month of the request. There was no back and forth, thanks to Mr. Burke's legal arguments. I am so grateful for having him as my attorney. I am forever appreciative of his guidance, legal knowledge, and positive results. Aside from his knowledge, he is humble, considerate, and truly cares for his clients. He is an incredible Attorney! He is a blessing to the legal field. Thank you Mr. Burke!

I needed a criminal attorney for a friend of mine on short notice over the weekend and was able to make contact with and retain Kirk Tarman & Associates. Although we ended up not needing the firm's services after retained, they were prompt, professional, and courteous. I recommend the firm to anyone in the area in need of a criminal attorney.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rancho Cucamonga, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
