He was supposed to represent me on a case, never contacted me... filed for continuance after continuance then submitted a half hearted improperly prepared brief. Very unprofessional.

DLW handles matters that are cliffhangers. Meaning when no lawyer will take the chance without charging you your mortgage payment or for you to sell your lifes treasures for this lawyer to get involved. David Wright is honest as he is clever. The client with DUI. I am sorry but something must have happen either health or personal ie. Died. David Wright is a humanitarian. But also a ruthless attorney with his only objective is to protect his client and defend or in behalf of a plaintiff perform duties in litigation and mediation.

I hired David in 2010 to represent me for a dui I received. I paid him in full. He stopped showing up in court and I could not get in touch with him ever again. The judge tried to call him and was unsuccessful. My option is to report him to the Bar Association.

ONCE YOU HAVE DAVID ON YOUR TEAM, YOUR "IN IT TO WIN IT" TRUELY A MAN OF HIS WORD. YOUR NOT JUST ANOTHER CLIENT, AND ITS NOT JUST ANOTHER CASE. DAVID WILL PREVAIL ON YOUR BEHALF, OR WILL TELL YOU WHERE HE BELIEVES YOU STAND RIGHT FROM THE GATE. HE SHOOTS STRAIGHT FROM THE HIP, HE WON'T SUGAR COAT HIS PRECEIVED DISPOSITION, HE'S NOT THE TYPICAL "PLAUSIBLE COMMENTATOR" THAT IS SO PREVELANT IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION TODAY. YOU CAN TAKE HIS WORD TO THE BANK. HE THINKS OUTSIDE THE BOX!!

David Wright is just brilliant! In addition to his J.D. he also has a Masters in Accounting. David has been licensed to practice law in Mississippi, Texas, California and in Federal Court. PLUS he is a nice person! I have used David on several occasions as a business attorney, and he has always come through with flying colors! In addition to my business legal needs, David has drawn up my will and my advance health care directive. Since the choices are a bit limited as to how long I have used David, I want to be perfectly clear, I have used him several times over the past 10+ years, as recently as this week handling a real estate transaction. David will spend hours researching the best possible scenario for his clients. David has clients from Los Angeles, to San Diego, to Palm Springs and everything in between. David is adept at Wills, Trust, and Probate. In my mind he is one of the most brilliant lawyers I know. Because David is from Mississippi and has lived and practiced in Texas, he has a very "down home" personality, but do not let that fool you, his brain is always in gear!

Thank you for obtaining closure for me in my divorce case. I received more than I imagined. I truly thank you for giving me the legal and emotional support through this very scary time in my life. I have never known an attorney who gives his cell phone to all his clients and actually answers or texts back on the weekends.

Tecla has represented us in an on-going custody issue for over a year. Throughout the time that Tecla has represented us her devotion and hard-work to our case has been unwavering. We would recommend Tecla to anyone looking for a family law attorney in the Valley. We live out of state and even despite this Tecla is extremely reachable and flexible. With her expertise and advice we were able to receive everything that we were hoping, including an out of state move away. Tecla and her firm answer emails and voicemails promptly, never leave any question unanswered and are extremely personable. Tecla went to court numerous times for us over the course and her organization and court experience is blatantly clear. She helped us decipher laws and codes and always made sure our questions were answered. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty for our family numerous times. She is very very good at what she does. Anyone that hires Tecla and her firm will not be disappointed in their choice. We cannot recommend her more highly. We never would have got as far as we have with our custody case without her. Tecla works hard and dedicates her efforts to her cases. She really does not treat you as just another client, she truly cares about her cases. She is extremely easy to talk to and she is extremely diligent. She will also be honest about the case and realistic. She will give you all possible outcomes and she always gave us a clear idea of what to expect. She is not just an attorney that will tell you what you want to hear, she will tell you the truth. If you are considering lawyers, we highly recommend Tecla.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rancho Mirage, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
