Melanie is a great navigator of the judicial system and was able to push my case out to the maximum trial deadline. She resolved my case, in which I would have had to register for life.

Melanie is first and foremost concerned about the people she represents and defends. She will look into every avenue to assure you are getting a fair representation and to make sure all the issues are covered. I can assure you after a 5 year case with her still with me by my side in the end not willing to give up or concede, she was there and ready to do what it takes to keep on defending me. I would recommend Ms. Roe to anyone who is serious about their situation. Ms. Roe is the real deal. An attorney that handles the legal issues we have in our challenging system today, and stands by her clients. Thank you again for everything Melanie.

Melanie was extremely knowledgeable and professional. She made me feel comfortable and valuable. She always explained our options and shared her opinions but left decisions up to me. I would recommend her highly. She was tough when she needed to be and gentle when appropriate.

First thing is first. If you're looking for miracles go read a book. But boy, does hours of hard work come close to a miracle . I was charged with a felony back in October of 2016 and been dealing with the possibility of a felony on my record. I found Melanie on Avvo and read great reviews so i decided to give her a call. I've spoken to two criminal defense attorneys previously before Mrs. Roe and i just was not convinced. When we spoke she wanted cold facts and she listened. She worked with me and even though we went through a pain in the butt with the legal system she had still kept me in high hopes. She assured me things would be fine and I trusted her and she turned out to be right. My charges were brought down tremendously to where i can breath and have a fresh start. She is stern and to the point and her work ethic is incomparable to anyone I've seen. I highly recommend anyone faces criminal charges to contact Melanie right away. Thanks to her I can breath and continue on with my life's journey!

Mr. Gregory has moral ethics and you can put your faith and trust in him without his judgement. He is one of the last people i know that will take something he has been told to his grave without saying a word to anyone else or betraying your trust. Receiving a summons for a contract dispute that I played no part in was confusing and intimidating. Finding a qualified attorney in the right jurisdiction took time and effort. I'm glad I ultimately I found Aaron Garcia. Aaron took the time to review the summons and associated legal documents, help me understand the legal terms and processes, and encouraged me to consider alternatives that would not result in my hiring his firm. He was willing to think through the subtleties with me and look at my approach on a risk/reward basis. From the beginning I felt like Aaron had my best interests in mind, even if it did not lead to an engagement with his firm. I encourage anyone facing a business legal challenge in Riverside County to consider working with Aaron Garcia - he'll steer you straight.

Tecla has represented us in an on-going custody issue for over a year. Throughout the time that Tecla has represented us her devotion and hard-work to our case has been unwavering. We would recommend Tecla to anyone looking for a family law attorney in the Valley. We live out of state and even despite this Tecla is extremely reachable and flexible. With her expertise and advice we were able to receive everything that we were hoping, including an out of state move away. Tecla and her firm answer emails and voicemails promptly, never leave any question unanswered and are extremely personable. Tecla went to court numerous times for us over the course and her organization and court experience is blatantly clear. She helped us decipher laws and codes and always made sure our questions were answered. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty for our family numerous times. She is very very good at what she does. Anyone that hires Tecla and her firm will not be disappointed in their choice. We cannot recommend her more highly. We never would have got as far as we have with our custody case without her. Tecla works hard and dedicates her efforts to her cases. She really does not treat you as just another client, she truly cares about her cases. She is extremely easy to talk to and she is extremely diligent. She will also be honest about the case and realistic. She will give you all possible outcomes and she always gave us a clear idea of what to expect. She is not just an attorney that will tell you what you want to hear, she will tell you the truth. If you are considering lawyers, we highly recommend Tecla.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rancho Mirage, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
