I was referred to Bill Simon by a doctor in Charlotte, NC that had used Bill's legal services for his business in San Diego. He was extremely pleased with the legal work that Bill had done for his business. I originally had another attorney handling the settlement of an estate that I am the executor of. That attorney did not understand the Trust, so I was getting very concerned and nervous about my involvement as the executor from a legal stand point. I took the Trust and Will to The San Diego Law Firm and within twenty minutes Bill Simon had explained the Trust and Will to me. He assured me that he could execute the Trust and Will the way that it was intended. Bill's knowledge and skill was very impressive. Bill had his team ready to start the execution of the Trust and Will. They were professional and knowledgeable with every step that was taken. They worked with the heirs and kept an excellent relationship with everyone involved. The estate went into Probate, so Bill and his team handled it from start to finish with no hassles for me. They managed the funds and every situation that came up with skill and an impressive knowledge base. I totally trusted Bill Simon with handling everything involved in closing the estate. I'm usually not that trusting, but the integrity of Bill is beyond comparison. I let Bill and his team do what was required without me micro managing everything. I never had to question anything that they did. I could not be happier with their treatment of me and the handling of the estate. Bill Simon is my attorney for life. As far as I'm concerned Bill Simon is the best attorney to handle all of my requirements. I highly recommend him to everyone. Bill Simon is currently handling another legal problem for me concerning a serious situation with a building contractor. I am so confident in Bill's ability to handle this legal matter, that my personal feeling is that I will have a good resolution. Bill Simon is without a doubt the best attorney in California. I sincerely believe that you have made the right choice when you use Bill. Carson Estes

Bill Simon and John Masnica over at San Diego Law Firm are a pleasure to work with - they set us up on a fixed fee monthly plan that our tech startup could afford. They competently got us set up with our Corporation filing papers, logo trademark, service agreements, etc. We're now working on several other projects that are protecting and improving our business equity. Very good communication and it's nice not being charged $100 for each email communication like most attorneys do. Highly recommend Bill Simon and the team at SDLF.

Bill is the Managing Partner at San Diego Law Firm, the law firm in San Diego my business used to incorporate our company. Since then him and his staff have helped with many other aspects of protecting our business. If you have the chance to be in a meeting with Bill you will see how passionate he is about what he does.

A moment ago Even though we were on other ends of the state, Daniel went out of his way to find me providers to get me quality care and make sure all of my concerns were heard and documented. Daniel consistently checked in on me and gave me timely updates. He got me a settlement that I was very happy with and I'm glad to have been able to work with him. Very easy to work with and I'd highly recommend his services!

I had the pleasure of having Daniel as my attorney. I found him by using google maps. No recommendations, nothing. My first call was after 7pm, my only time available. I got his voicemail, was not surprised. Left a message. Expected nothing. Less than 2 minutes later he called me. Impressed is understatement. He walked me through everything, no hidden agenda. I am now pain free from my injuries, all because of Daniel.

Richard Showen has handled all issues regarding the trusts of our parents and our own family and has gone above and beyond to provide "immediate/emergency" service that made a huge difference in our situation. We work in the real estate industry and are involved with many trust attorneys, (most are excellent,) and we would --and do-- trust Richard Showen with our financial plans and refer him to all who ask us for trust referral.

Ryan is hands down one of the best in the business. I am so thankful he was my lawyer for a personal injury case. Both the outcome and the process far exceeded my expectations. My case was not straightforward nor easily won, but with Ryan’s expertise, patience, and people savviness, he was able to help me get a great settlement. As anyone who goes through a personal injury case knows, the process can be daunting. With Ryan by my side I found I was alway informed, he went above and beyond to teach me things and make sure I was lock step with all of my options as a client. Moreover, he always listened to me and took my input and direction to heart and incorporated it into our approach / strategy. With personal injury law, having the right lawyer on your side can truly make or break your case. I saw this first hand with my case, everyone Ryan interacted with respected and liked him, and that makes a huge difference in how things move forward (or don’t). As someone with extraordinarily high standards, Ryan absolutely knocked it out of the park for me. I’ll forever be grateful for him and his hard work, he’s a gem to work alongside and I’m lucky he was my lawyer. Highly highly recommend Conger Law 10/10

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rancho Santa Fe, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
