This man is compassionate. I truly believe he has a care for the people he represents . He has a value for truth and what is right. He speaks with class and dignity and has many years of experience that show in court. He is expensive as is ANY attorney but is worth every penny. Many attorneys seem to be in it for money at any cost philosophy which is why so many people can't stand them but this one has a conscience. He is soft spoken but his words pierce like an arrow.

I went to Van Kinney with $3k to make sure I could retain him, and as soon as he found out I was a Native American tribal member at Redding Rancheria he wanted nothing to do with helping me. I felt so belittled I felt as if I were molested in a way I guess is the only way I could put it now I know how it feels to have the race card get pulled, this is one corrupt attorney and county they are all in the same exact buddy system together they all eat lunch together the attorneys the DA the judge they all are in bed together if you want an attorney go out of Shasta County if you know it’s good for your child!

You want a great attorney to work with go to Van O Kinney!! He’s very understanding listens and takes action right away, specially in my situation, by far the best experience for needing a fist time lawyer, he’s the guy to go to!! I’ll go back to him if I ever need to, he definitely knows his stuff. THANK YOU Van O Kinney

This man is unethical , just like the other reviews say. He will steal your money when we called to check in on our case he became angry and screamed at us. "what do you expect me to do." He should have told us he couldn't help us before he to our money. He took us for 1500.00 and never did a thing for us. We went to Chico because Shasta County Child support division is as crooked as this guy. We used Norman Ryker who came all the way to shasta county to defend us and we ended up making our case equitable and was owed money instead. . He ripped us off , he's unprofessional , his poor reviews are the same experience we had. Read the CA bar reviews on this man. NOT GOOD! Pick anybody BUT HIM. He should be put out of business and sued by all the people he has ripped off. Class action law suit. This review is long over due, hope it helps someone from making a big mistake.

This is the best Law office ever, there very professional, responsive and they care about people . I would definitely recommend anyone to this office. Everyone there works together to get the job done and I'm very appreciative for all they do.

Mr. Cogan is the most dedicated, committed, compassionate, understanding attorney I have had the honor of knowing. I would refer anyone who was requiring of his services. He will be there through the whole process, and if you have concerns, or just don't understand, he takes the time to explain every aspect until you do.

I would highly recommend Dret, he managed to achieve an outcome for me in what could have been a very complicated matter. The way he handled the process ensured a smooth and efficient positive result in my favor. If you have to hire an attorney and spend the money I would recommend getting Dret for his wisdom.

Let me start off by saying: Dret is an excellent lawyer. Very smart and excellent in his profession. Divorce is messy business, though, and his retainer is very expensive ($3,500). At the end of my divorce, with default judgement, I paid more than double that. My ex, who represented himself, tried to prolong and postpone the proceedings as much as he could, and Dret did everything he could to counter it. But it does add up at $350/hour. I recommend Dret for his knowledge and professionalism if you can afford him.

Michael Cogan's office represented me in a very intense case with a government agency. Mr. Cogan was able to help me level the playing feild and not let the government agency bully me. When I requested information, the agency denied me access until Mr. Cogan made a phone call.
