I went through about 25 consults before choosing Lauren. Other attorneys were afraid of my ex's attorney and Lauren was the only one who had no issue with her. She also is an out of the box thinker who brought fresh ideas to the case and I ended up getting everything I asked for.

Very disappointed with this law office. All attorneys need to understand an take into consideration every one who call has a problem an needs representation. I spoke to Lauren who was very disrespectful and inconsiderate. This law office needs to understand there job is to hear the matter at hand hear what facts an evidence will support any case/matter. It is then taken into consideration if there office can or can't not take your case. Lauren would not listen. She was argumentative. These attorneys charge way to much an have to understand once retained your now there boss they then must represent you an the fact at a high level. I would not recommend this office to anyone. Lauren must learn to be patient an understanding. She lost client an retainer fee. Now I see why her partners are also in need.

I reached out to Lauren to prepare myself for another custody battle. OP filed an ex parte; we had one whole day to write a sup. declaration and it took just that. It was a case that lasted shy from a year, and throughout that time, Lauren and her team worked really hard on my case. What I do like and noticed was Lauren’s confidence about the outcomes of the case and in the court room. She knows what to argue, what’s reasonable and what questions to ask to prove your points and counter argue the OP’s statements. There were times where I’d get stuck practicing my previous parenting plan, and she was there to listen and throw possible outcomes if things went sour with OP. Through it all, we won the case. Communication is important. She is on the expensive side but works very hard. I highly recommend her and her team.

I hired Lauren when I was having trouble co-parenting with my children's mother who was refusing to let me see my children among many other dysfunctional issues. Lauren was very honest about the court process and procedures, and most of all, very calm about all my problems. She is highly creative and intelligent but always had a strategy with every situation I would introduce. She always had the best interests of my children at the top of her priorities. Lauren got me started with the court process. As time went on, by each court hearing I gained more and more custody and sanity. This was all throughout the pandemic when the courts were not even moving cases. After it was all done, I ended up with sole custody, legal AND physical. Most of all, my children are safe with me and stable.

Toby Bowler was recommended to us by many friends and acquaintances. We'd had SO many bad experiences with attorneys before, but we were put in a position to have to hire another one. What a pleasant experience! Instead of feeling that our representation was a joke, and that the money we'd spent was a complete waste, we felt he earned every dime! He acted quickly in our behalf, he was the only attorney we'd met who leveled with us. It was clear he wanted to help us, not just take our money. He also knows his way around the SB court system. In the end, he got us everything we asked for...and then some! He is an amazing, ethical attorney and we can't recommend him highly enough!

I hired Ms. Lord to deal with my divorce. After getting consultations from other attorneys she seemed like a perfect fit and I was right. She is fair, she is extremely knowledgeable in everything family law, and when I was either upset or didn’t know something she explained it to me in a way I would understand it. Hiring an attorney is always going to cost money but you will not regret the money spent on her services it was well worth every penny. Once you find her there is no need to look further.

We hired Elizabeth in early 2019 and we successfully obtained legal guardianship over our grandchildren. Than 2 in a half years later she represented us for terminating Parental Rights of parents which was granted, and from there she helped us with finalizing our adoption. She is very thorough, knows the law and will not say something can be done unless it can. She will respond to your e-mails and listen to your concerns.

I cannot express in words how amazing Elisabeth is at her job! I was thrown into a world I knew nothing about — Family Law. Elisabeth never once sugarcoated anything— she worked her butt off! Walked me through every step of the process! Elisabeth has a work ethic that is unmatched and continued to deliver at every appearance! I was beyond impressed watching her command the court room with grace, compassion and most of all— knowledge of the law!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Redlands, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
