Dedecker I cannot express enough gratitude for the outstanding legal support provided by Michael Dedecker during our adoption case. Facing a time-sensitive situation involving a novel law that most attorneys were hesitant to tackle, Michael stepped up to the challenge with unwavering dedication and professionalism. From the outset, Michael demonstrated his commitment to our case by exhaustively researching options and took time to seek the expertise when needed. Despite encountering dead ends in finding a more experienced attorney, Michael never wavered in his determination to assist us. He took it upon himself to thoroughly understand the complexities of the law in question and diligently gathered all necessary materials within an incredibly tight timeframe. When our case proceeded to trial, Michael's meticulous preparation and profound understanding of both the law and our circumstances were evident. He presented our case with confidence, clarity, and a depth of knowledge that instilled trust and assurance in us throughout the proceedings. From the very beginning of our journey through the complex legal landscape of family law, Michael stood out as not just a lawyer, but as a beacon of hope for our family. Initially, we brought him on board for what was to be a de facto hearing. However, as our case evolved and became more intricate, Michael's role in our lives grew. Michael possessed an uncanny ability to simplify the convoluted legal processes we were facing. He meticulously broke down each step, ensuring we understood the implications and strategies at play. His approach was not just about guiding us legally but also about educating us, empowering us to make informed decisions throughout our case. Communication was one of Michael's strongest suits. He proactively kept us in the loop with every development, big or small. Whether it was through emails, phone calls, or in-person meetings, Michael made sure we were never left wondering what was happening with our case. His transparency built a foundation of trust that was invaluable during such a stressful time. Perhaps what set Michael apart the most was his calm and reassuring presence. Family law cases, especially those leading to adoption, are fraught with emotional highs and lows. Michael's steady demeanor was a constant source of comfort. Knowing he was on our side made the journey less daunting. His confidence and compassion alleviated much of the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany legal battles. In the end, our case concluded more favorably than we could have ever imagined - we were able to adopt a child and officially welcome them into our family. This life-changing outcome was, without doubt, significantly influenced by Michael's unwavering dedication, profound expertise, and heartfelt commitment to our case. Choosing Michael as our attorney was one of the best decisions we've ever made. Not only did he navigate us through the legalities with unparalleled professionalism, but he also provided moral support that transcended the typical attorney-client relationship. For anyone facing the complexities of family law, especially those considering adoption, Michael is an exceptional choice. His impact on our family will be cherished forever.

When we first talked with Michael, we immediately got the feeling that he was honest, truth worthy, transparent and knowledgeable. Michael proved to be all of that and more throughout the entire court process. We have had other layers, and I can’t understate how important it is to have a lawyer who can communicate with you with these qualities during a child custody case. I would 10/10 recommend Michael and continue to use him in the future for any needs.

In 2020 I found Michael DeDecker on this exact site when I was desperately searching for an attorney who specialized in helping fathers. For years several members of my family were falsely accused of abusing my son. We were subjected to multiple police visits, CPS investigations, court appearances and medical visits that all unanimously returned unfounded. I needed someone familiar with parental alienation and emotional abuse to help me fight for my son. After reading what Michael’s clients and peers had to say about him, I knew he was the way to go. It took two long years that included a 3111-mediation report, multiple court dates and finally a trial. Michael did an excellent job presenting the facts and the judge ruled in my favor. I went from almost losing my son to having him over 70% of the time. From the moment I met Michael until today his calm demeanor and character has remained the same. He is professional, accessible, sincere, and personally made sure I understood what was happening at all times. He never hesitated communicating information even if it was difficult or something I didn’t want to hear. Michaels actions and responses always reflected what was best for my son. Today my son is thriving, playing sports, going to therapy, excelling in school and is safe! I don’t see Michael as only my attorney but a friend who helped me through one of the hardest times of my life!

Michael was a wonderful, supportive lawyer that assisted/navigated us through our journey to adopt our nephew. He knew exactly what to do and if he had any questions, he would get back to us right away. It was such a relief to have someone guiding us through the process when there are so many "t's to cross and i's to dot". Adoption can be an emotional time, but Michael was our sense of security during this process. We could call him with any questions that we had. He was a calming, knowledgeable lawyer with a compassionate side to him. He supported us, his clients, and assured us along the way. We would definitely recommend Michael for anyone seeking advice with a seamless adoption. Our family is so incredibly thankful for what he did for us. We can't thank him enough.

Being new to California, Rudy was referred to me by a highly-respected Employment & Labor attorney from outside the Sacramento region. She said, "Rudy's your guy. "You have a believable story. Rudy will be sure you get a fair shot. Call him." I did. Rudy returned my initial call promptly. He took time to listen to my story, asking thoughtful and provoking questions along the way. Within 20 minutes I had a clear understanding of the unique California employment laws I was up against. Rudy clearly laid out next steps he felt were available to me. Rudy presented two straight-up fee options, a super easy to complete online engagement agreement and then encouraged me to think about things before signing! He said "If I thought he could be helpful and I wanted to proceed, to call him back to meet the aggressive document timelines established by my employer." I did. Within 48-hours of engaging Rudy's services, he took full control of my case, and established an elevated level for consideration to my employer, offering a real sense of hope for me and my family. Rudy then said to stay calm, be patient and wait. I did. Over a matter on weeks, Rudy communicated directly with my employers leadership, human resources and attorneys, keeping me informed every step of the way. Rudy reported, "the company is moving slowly, but definitely moving in the right direction for you. Keep the faith." I did. The bottom line; Working with Rudy was an inspiring experience for me. Rudy knows his stuff, kept me informed, was straightforward, honest and true to his word. Rudy negotiated a fair agreement with my past employer at levels greater than I could have achieved on my own. Rudy's sense of justice, (vs. the dollar) is real and so refreshing. Did Rudolf Delson's expertice, leadership, guidance, and dedication to my personal employment case make a difference for me and my family? YES, RUDY DID!

Sympathetic, friendly, analytical, and most importantly, effective. Highly effective. These are simply a few words I would use to describe Mr. Delson as my lawyer. I had spent more years than I care to remember, giving everything I had to an employer I imagined staying with for the rest of my career. Then, in an instant, it was all gone. I was destroyed. I needed to hold my employer accountable but had no legal resources to turn to. Then I found Mr. Delson via Avvo. Over the next few months, Mr. Delson reviewed my case in minute detail, collaborated with additional specialist counsel (the case was complex and extended way beyond pure-play employment issues), and devised the winning strategy. Going up against a large company with expensive lawyers is not for the faint-hearted. If you are in a situation like this and are unsure as to whether you should proceed with litigation - talk to Mr. Delson. Now I am on the other side of this case, I couldn't be happier with the result. Did I mention he is also a joy to work with? Absolutely delighted.

Never did I expect I'd need a lawyer for my small business. Those types of problems happened to "other people". However, that day came and I really felt like I had no recourse. As a last resort, I talked to Rudy about my options and he knew I had a case. I was nervous, as this whole process was new to me, but he was so knowledgeable about the whole situation, guided me through my options and was able to parse through a complicated situation and break it down succinctly. I felt heard and taken care of, and thus, trusted Rudy's decisions from day one on the best approach—and we ended the process better than I ever expected. Thank you!!

Knows the rules of the game, very insightful and with a work ethic beyond compare (she was at a July 4th celebration with her family working on my company's transaction via phone and laptop as it was international and where I was doing the deal didn't give a flying 's*&t' about America's Independence Day and wanted it done.) Very sharp, reliable and the best securities lawyer I've seen on the West Coast.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sacramento, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
