Divorce is a dark and lonely abyss. Anyone that’s ever journeyed through this perilous path to reach freedom and peace understands what I mean. Kim Ma was that beacon of hope to help me reach the destination in one piece. There are many false presumptions and threats made during this time from both sides. There are those attorneys that promise but doesn’t deliver. Kim Ma is the gold standard. Kim provide the law and realistic expectations, not just what I wanted to hear. In the court room, Kim was poised and established a clear respectful presence. She was factual and experienced with the process and people. My divorce process was extremely long due to the unwillingness of the other party. During this time, I felt that my retainer and fee was reasonable and every dollar was worth it. I received a monthly statement showing where my charges were, received copies of every document, and they remembered my specific situation without me reiterating throughout the years of my case. Email and phone communication was timely and always followed through. My only regret was not going to Kim sooner. She navigated me through the treacherous storm. Thank you.

I am so incredibly grateful I found Kim at Cameron Fernandez. I was represented by Kim in my divorce case in the Sacramento judicial system. She is an absolutely consummate professional in every aspect of the word. She's incredibly knowledgeable, intelligent, kind, patient and courteous. Above all she knows law and she knows it very well. She's a solid communicator and was there for me every step of the way. She was available for me night/ weekends/ holidays -- it made no difference. She always made time for me and made me feel like my case was a priority for her. When I begun my search for an attorney I felt extremely overwhelmed. She was referred to me by another attorney in the Sacramento area; and like I said - so tremendously grateful I found her. She is a senior attorney at her firm and is certified in family law. Her credentials speak volumes. Her office is clean, quiet, centrally located and plenty of free parking. Not like other firms in Sacramento requiring paid parking/ meters/ parking validation... which can make a difficult emotional situation even worse. I definitely can appreciate the accessibility, and also not far from the Courthouse. Her Administrator, Sherri is also so incredibly kind and knowledgeable as well. They make such a great team and I also appreciate her as well. Should you find yourself in need of a very good family law attorney, I would not hesitate to recommend Kim in a heartbeat.

In 2016, I filed for custody and won by default. Shortly after, my ex filed to dispute custody, and filed a pretentious emergency ex parte hearing. I only had 24 hours, and knew I needed an attorney. I spoke to Kim and several others, but Kim seemed more significantly competent, assertive, clearly understood the urgency of my situation and made herself available to represent me at my hearing at which she convinced the judge not to send my daughter out of state to live with her mother. She continued to help me navigate a difficult and contested custody fight, during which I was simultaneously fighting a criminal case that led to CPS involvement. On top of this, my ex made many false claims against me in court. Despite these major hurtles, Kim expertly represented me, and was able to get me full physical and legal custody. In court, she was conspicuously more composed and experienced than my ex's attorney. Seeing Kim in court leaves me feeling very confident knowing that she represents me. Kim knows the law inside and out, and understands what steps and direction need to be taken. Just recently in 2019, my daughter had to travel out of state for summer visitation. During this time, she was subjected to major emotional trauma, and placed maliciously into a psyche ward by her mother who would not let my daughter speak with her family. Her mother filed for custody in a state other than in which she lives who was not aware of the existing order and lied to the judge about existing court orders which resulted in her being awarded full custody under false pretenses. Again she made numerous wild accusations and had filed fake CPS allegations against my family members. Once again I called Kim. Kim knew exactly what to do, and what to avoid. She communicates extremely well, making sure that I knew what I needed to be doing and what the next steps were. She emailed me even at 6 AM on the weekend, working around the clock to help me get my daughter back, which again made me feel better knowing I had Kim with me. For this case I hired an attorney in the other state as well, and Kim coordinated perfectly with them, demonstrating a strong capability to handle even more difficult cases. She very quickly won return of custody and I was able to bring my daughter home. I can't express strongly enough how grateful I am to have Kim as my attorney. I absolutely recommend that you give her a call if you are dealing with family law issues.

i have been working with Kim Ma for over 3 years now on several different matters, and i cant imagine where i would be today without her help. Not only was she able to help me get my divorce completely finalized, with far better terms than i had ever expected, she was able to help me receive permanent FULL custody of my 4 children. In California, this is unheard of and most people are shocked when i tell them, but its the truth. My children are safe and happy and healthy now, and its because Kim believed in me and helped me fight to ensure that they were able to be under my sole custody. If i could give Kim 10 stars I would. Thank you again Kim, from the bottom of my heart. My kids and I are very grateful for your hard work and dedication to ensure that justice was served.

Being new to California, Rudy was referred to me by a highly-respected Employment & Labor attorney from outside the Sacramento region. She said, "Rudy's your guy. "You have a believable story. Rudy will be sure you get a fair shot. Call him." I did. Rudy returned my initial call promptly. He took time to listen to my story, asking thoughtful and provoking questions along the way. Within 20 minutes I had a clear understanding of the unique California employment laws I was up against. Rudy clearly laid out next steps he felt were available to me. Rudy presented two straight-up fee options, a super easy to complete online engagement agreement and then encouraged me to think about things before signing! He said "If I thought he could be helpful and I wanted to proceed, to call him back to meet the aggressive document timelines established by my employer." I did. Within 48-hours of engaging Rudy's services, he took full control of my case, and established an elevated level for consideration to my employer, offering a real sense of hope for me and my family. Rudy then said to stay calm, be patient and wait. I did. Over a matter on weeks, Rudy communicated directly with my employers leadership, human resources and attorneys, keeping me informed every step of the way. Rudy reported, "the company is moving slowly, but definitely moving in the right direction for you. Keep the faith." I did. The bottom line; Working with Rudy was an inspiring experience for me. Rudy knows his stuff, kept me informed, was straightforward, honest and true to his word. Rudy negotiated a fair agreement with my past employer at levels greater than I could have achieved on my own. Rudy's sense of justice, (vs. the dollar) is real and so refreshing. Did Rudolf Delson's expertice, leadership, guidance, and dedication to my personal employment case make a difference for me and my family? YES, RUDY DID!

Sympathetic, friendly, analytical, and most importantly, effective. Highly effective. These are simply a few words I would use to describe Mr. Delson as my lawyer. I had spent more years than I care to remember, giving everything I had to an employer I imagined staying with for the rest of my career. Then, in an instant, it was all gone. I was destroyed. I needed to hold my employer accountable but had no legal resources to turn to. Then I found Mr. Delson via Avvo. Over the next few months, Mr. Delson reviewed my case in minute detail, collaborated with additional specialist counsel (the case was complex and extended way beyond pure-play employment issues), and devised the winning strategy. Going up against a large company with expensive lawyers is not for the faint-hearted. If you are in a situation like this and are unsure as to whether you should proceed with litigation - talk to Mr. Delson. Now I am on the other side of this case, I couldn't be happier with the result. Did I mention he is also a joy to work with? Absolutely delighted.

Never did I expect I'd need a lawyer for my small business. Those types of problems happened to "other people". However, that day came and I really felt like I had no recourse. As a last resort, I talked to Rudy about my options and he knew I had a case. I was nervous, as this whole process was new to me, but he was so knowledgeable about the whole situation, guided me through my options and was able to parse through a complicated situation and break it down succinctly. I felt heard and taken care of, and thus, trusted Rudy's decisions from day one on the best approach—and we ended the process better than I ever expected. Thank you!!

Knows the rules of the game, very insightful and with a work ethic beyond compare (she was at a July 4th celebration with her family working on my company's transaction via phone and laptop as it was international and where I was doing the deal didn't give a flying 's*&t' about America's Independence Day and wanted it done.) Very sharp, reliable and the best securities lawyer I've seen on the West Coast.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sacramento, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
