Please read! I had consulted her inregaurds to a child custody matter and I had already done all my paperwork and had reports proving my ex husband lied and falsely fabricated allegations and forced my children to lie including my ex husband's wife took part in it as well. I was seeking her service, before my ex husband and his wife retained her. Before I move forward All of this happened to me because my ex husband new wife did not want him to pay me child support............ allegations after allegations it was hell with that lady....... but here's my share of experience with Sheri's Office . Moving forward I received a letter notifying me of representation of Sheri Perlmans office . Indicating she was representing my ex husband's wife in the adoption process. Which included Sandra as well who was helping in the case...... I had previously mentioned to her ( Sheri ) my custody situation and she was willing to take my case. ( previously) before my ex husband and his wife retained her. Moving forward...... I received a 17 page child adoption report from the child adoption investigator 1 year later from Family Court Services. The report itself indicated it was denied to my ex husband's wife based on false allegations and based on the history dynamics of my case. It essentially was a high conflict case. Very disturbing facts and evidence in the report that I received from the child adoption investigator. Sheri's office never reached out or sent me a copy of the report. It was amusing to me that they requested my signatures for the adoption, when my ex husband's wife consulted with them and hire them. However Sheri's office failed to send me a copy of the denied adoption notice regarding the denial. As I stated my ex husband and his wife hired her to represent them for the adoption. ( the irony of it all ) If Sheri had done her homework correctly and listened to what I had told her and read through the copies of every document I provided to her this report would have never landed in my possession. ( If she was smart enough ) she would have rejected to take my ex husband's case and not represent them for the adoption, she would of known it would be denied immediately based on the evidence I provided to her office. But she didn't do her Job correctly which is her problem and not mine :) However I am thankful that it was done because I am now in the process of bringing my daughter's home and even if it is a lengthy process. I AM NOT GIVING UP. The denial adoption report would have never happened if my ex husband's wife would have NOT applied for an adoption and if Sheri didn't represented her . I have to ADMIT it turned out to work in my favor and a huge slap in all their faces. I had definitely mentioned more than several times and nobody listened to me until finally now an investigation took place and thank God it happened because everything ( I mean everything was brought to light in that report ) There is no denying the facts and evidence found as to why the adoption is denied to my ex husband new wife custody over my two minor children. As much as I was upset that Sheri picked up the case, it actually worked out in my favor and not theirs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I won this one ( again ) #trustingtheprocess #BetterDaysAhead #trustingod

I was arrested last year for a DUI with horrible, extenuating circumstances, BAC of .25. The first lawyer I hired, did not listen to anything I had to say and just wanted me to settle, admitting guilt with a plea bargain. I knew that there was more to my case, more that could be done and that's when I contacted Mr. Crawford. During our initial phone consultation, he listened to everything I had to say and offered his knowledge of the situation and showed his compassion for myself as an individual. Navigating the legal system can be daunting, especially when facing serious charges, but Mr. Crawford made the process much more manageable. He was empathetic, kind and very open in all his communications. He walked me through all the steps letting me know what to expect. I had the DMV hearing and we won that due to lack of evidence, so my license stayed intact the entire time, never suspended. He was thorough in the next steps of the case with reviewing circumstances, evidence, investigating and interviewing witnesses. My DUI case went to trial and was ultimately dismissed on the 3rd day, due to insufficient evidence. I owe the outcome of my case to Mr. Crawford's dedication and expertise of DUI law. I wholeheartedly recommend him and his law firm to represent you if you or a family member finds yourself in this situation.

When I say this is the best lawyer out there I mean it. Everyone else said I don’t have a chance and take the DUI which was unjust because of my medical conditions. Crawford did an amazing job and got it reduced and could have even got the charge dismissed but a reduction was good enough for me. No matter what you are dealing with you always have the best chance with Philip Crawford.

I had the good fortune of being a client of Mr. Pernik, hands-down the best and most competent defense attorney practicing in the Monterey Peninsula-Salinas area, and beyond. After an unexpected turn of events, I needed help with a legal case and appreciated the fact that Mr. Pernik was willing to represent me. As I worked with Mr. Pernik, Dustin, and other members of his team to resolve the issue, it became readily apparent that they worked well together, and in my best interest. In the end, the case was settled fairly, and I attribute that success to Mr. Pernik and his team's professionalism, integrity, and compassion. I highly recommend Mr. Pernik, whether you're dealing with a straightforward case, or one that's more complex in nature. The legal representation that he provides will be first-rate, bar none.

I've been a client of Law Offices of William Pernik for a few years now. I've been seeking legal counsel on many situations, some of which had to do with selling possibly prohibited goods nationwide, some related to cannabis, and others with best course of action to be taken to avoid legal trouble. His law firm gave me excellent advice every time. While I hope it will never come to this, I rest easy knowing I have access to a knowledgeable attorney in case I get into serious legal trouble.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Salinas, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
