HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! San Diego Biz law was suggested to me via a random friend I car-pooled with. Me and my wife required the services of an immigration attorney and she recommended San Diego Biz Law. She gave me the personal number of the lead attorney/CEO Mr. Riznyk and asked me to call on a business day. Since we didn't have much time, I called him the next day which was a Sunday while he was having family time and we spoke for several minutes. He could have easily told me to call back on Monday but Mr. Riznyk gave me a free consultation and I immediately knew he was my man. I had spoken with other attorneys before then but none gave me the reassurance and confidence Mr. Riznyk exuded. I showed up at his office the next day and he handed me over to his awesome paralegal Emily Butler. Emily was fantastic! From the get go there was a very professional feel to their services and I could tell this was a great law firm with a reputation for always putting their best foot forward. Mr. Riznyk reassured me losing was never an option and he wouldn't take on a case he wasn't 100% sure of winning. He sure wasn't bluffing. From the front desk ladies to Mr. Riznyk's assistant, everyone was hands-on and buzzing. Over the next few weeks me and my wife worked with Emily and Mr. Riznyk on my case and what happened in the course of our subsequent interactions blew our minds. Emily and Mr. Riznyk came up with a superb brief of multiple-pages that was well beyond our expectations. The brief was backed with excellent legal arguments and know-how and we couldn't have asked for more. It was perfect legal representation steeped in over 30 years of doing this and winning at it. Emily's astute and deft arrangement of the brief and supporting documents left me in awe and utter respect for her work ethic. She then proceeded to send it via FedEx Express delivery at no extra cost to me. If I could give her a separate five star review I totally would. While we still await the outcome of our case, we remain very grateful to Mr. Riznyk and Emily for the sheer quality of their services. If you're ever in need of legal services please do not hesitate to request the services of San Diego Biz Law.

I am an attorney doing immigration law in Canada. Since I cannot appear in American courts, I have to get American representation for my clients. I was lucky enough to find Steven Riznyk in late 2009. I was very pleased with the way he and his firm operate. In 40 years, I have never seen anyone that was so assiduous and punctual. He returned all my calls promptly and usually within a few hours. He was always pleasant and courteous. He is very knowledgeable and conscientious. All of the cases that I referred to him were handled successfully and at a very realistic price. I believe that he only bills for hours worked. I have been privileged to do business with him and, as a token of my appreciation, I feel compelled to recommend him to all of you. Jean-Jacques Rousseau attorney in Quebec, Canada.

I was accused of a hit and run. The police towed my vehicle and wanted to impound it for a week which would have cost me over $2000.00. Mr. Riznyk negotiated with the police sergeant to have my car released the same day and to drop the charges. I was so relieved. He saved me from any criminal charges, having my car insurance increase and impound fees. I would highly recommend him for anyone needing an outstanding negotiator.

To whom It May Concern — from Daniela, a client for K-1 fiancé Visa. I never felt alone along the process. Whenever Mike or I had any confusion it was promptly cleared up by the lawyer’s office, by either the lawyer Steven Riznyk himself or his very capable and friendly assistant, Emily Butler. Many thanks for sticking with us throughout the application process. Since Mike and I were split away and — especially for the non-American — it was very easy to misunderstand some of the procedures; your office was professional, prompt and efficient in helping us all along the way and in minimizing several potential pitfalls. Knowing we had a professionals taking care of this “situation” allowed us to have freedom for other things, where we were able to enjoy more our time-before-getting-married, beyond avoiding headaches and unpleasant international misinterpretations. Also, for the non-American, it takes time to “get educated” on the procedure, which I saved by getting step-by-step assistance by Steven. The U.S. consulate where I went had a very formal way to convey that all the papers were well prepared (according to one U.S. consular officer there in Naples). For me, the visit to Naples was one of “high tension” and in particular, I was nervous prior to the interview process. As each of the papers were checked, one-by-one, the U.S. consular office was happy, which made me happy too, and very much relieved — and made me less stressed to face the following interview with the Vice Consul. I am Italian, and I could speak in Italian with Steven Riznyk when I needed. He is fluent in the language, including, and in particular, the technical words relating to the Visa application process. Also, Steven is totally familiar with the Italian bureaucracy, such as some delay from my side in getting required papers from the Italian government offices. His skills were a great asset. Thank you Steven and Emily.

My wife of 25 years filed a restraining order against me. I am in my seventies, a retired surgeon, and have never had this kind of legal issue. Ms. Keegan did not start by evaluating my ability to pay but instead listened, clearly comprehended my situation, and agreed to take my case. She is a Jurist with the added outstanding qualities of organization, problem-solving, laser focus, attention, and retention of details, and she responds and adapts to changing circumstances with composure. Her patience elevates her to the highest levels of professionalism, coupled with her analysis, writing, and persuasion skills, will give you great comfort that you are represented by the best.

I was referred to Anna by a friend. I needed some legal forms written up and gone over with me. I was also in somewhat of a hurry. Anna was very thorough in explaining everything to me and she was extremely hardworking. She had the forms ready for me in half the time the other attorneys said it would take. She was also very knowledgable in the matter at hand which made me feel safe and protected. I am very thankful for Anna and if you need legal help she is the best.

I needed a few things taken care of legally and I really didn't know where to start. Anna was so knowledgable about exactly what I needed to do and how she could help me. I was calling her with questions all the time and she was always so helpful and kept telling me to call her if I had any other questions! I recommend Anna to all my friends and family anytime someone needs legal advice as she is the best attorney I have come across.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Diego, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
