The Lancier Legal team was extremely easy to work with and very accommodating of our busy schedule. I am grateful for their guidance and feel much more at ease now having our trust and other legal documents in place.

The attorneys at Boyd Law did a fantastic job for me. I had an emergent case that required a response to be filed with the court within one business day. Staff at Boyd Law agreed to hear the facts of my case as I knew them to be, quoted me a reasonable fee for services (to which I agreed), and immediately addressed the necessary matters of my case. While my matter had significant material already available for the staff, Joshua Fabian did a masterful job arguing for me in person before a difficult judge. Joshua presented the facts clearly, addressed wrongs with the court, and preserved the integrity of the judge and opposing self-representing counsel in honorable discourse. He attained a very favorable decision from the court for me and represented me in a way that is honorable to me, himself, and the whole firm at Boyd Law. Joshua's quick thinking, patient persistence while in the presence of the court was impressive to watch. I believe his respect for the rule of law and others allows him to be aggressive in just the right areas to argue facts and not get sidelined by lesser matters. Consummate professional.

Boyd Law came through for us by assigning Joshua L. Fabian to our case. Joshua is a UCCJEA Virtuoso with a fantastic personality and the ability to get through to a difficult judge. We had a tri-state jurisdictional custody nightmare on our hands that involved original orders from in California from 2020, an open 2024 custody case in Father's state (home state), with Mother being another state entirely. When the California judge made what we felt was an erroneous emergency temporary order that caused substantial upheaval in the lives of our children, we reached out to multiple firms and attorneys who all wanted to put us off for weeks on top of charging us for a consultation fee. However, when I called Boyd Law, I reached Brandon (sp?) who patiently listened to our dilemma and put us through to the right team which included Matthew Caldwell, Joshua L. Fabian, and Ashley Hoffman, although Joshua was our Go-To A-Team guy. Not only did we not get charged a consultation fee, Joshua hit this case with great enthusiasm, ultimately coming through for us in exceptional fashion. His knowledge of UCCJEA is second to none. His pleasant and positive disposition immediately put us at ease. His commitment to meeting tight timelines was stellar. More importantly, his courtroom presentation was EPIC! If you have a case involving UCCJEA issues, Joshua is your man! He is not going to lie to you, he is not going to deceive you, he is not going to fill your head with nonsense. You'll get the truth and you'll get a lawyer who actually cares about your case. We know we were not his only case, but he sure made it feel like we were. I still think that he has some kind of Vibranium armor hiding under that suit or something, because he totally earned Super Hero Status. Money well spent.

Joshua Fabian! This guy, seriously this guy surprised me! During one of our court hearings he said "justice delayed is justice denied" and I was so sure he'd come up with that on the spot, I was genuinely moved and so was the judge. Well come to find out these are literally Martin Luther Kings words and as a black man I was embarrassed I didn't know that and had given this white guy credit for the words, but the truth is he said them so authentically it was poetic and believable. Other than that I will say he was a sweet man, and very clearly dedicated to getting me justice! He's a good man and a good lawyer, I'll give credit where credit is due.

Boyd Law helped me get my son back. My case spanned the state from San Diego to Sacramento, and Boyd Law worked with me with attorneys from both locations. When my first attorney had to step away from the case, Joshua Fabian (San Diego) stepped in. Almost four and a half years of custody battle, custody evaluation, and struggle ultimately led to a trial in which I was granted custody of my son. Without Joshua and the team at Boyd Law, this would not have happened. Divorce and custody difficulties are expensive, and Boyd Law is no exception to that, but they're worth it.

My wife of 25 years filed a restraining order against me. I am in my seventies, a retired surgeon, and have never had this kind of legal issue. Ms. Keegan did not start by evaluating my ability to pay but instead listened, clearly comprehended my situation, and agreed to take my case. She is a Jurist with the added outstanding qualities of organization, problem-solving, laser focus, attention, and retention of details, and she responds and adapts to changing circumstances with composure. Her patience elevates her to the highest levels of professionalism, coupled with her analysis, writing, and persuasion skills, will give you great comfort that you are represented by the best.

I was referred to Anna by a friend. I needed some legal forms written up and gone over with me. I was also in somewhat of a hurry. Anna was very thorough in explaining everything to me and she was extremely hardworking. She had the forms ready for me in half the time the other attorneys said it would take. She was also very knowledgable in the matter at hand which made me feel safe and protected. I am very thankful for Anna and if you need legal help she is the best.

I needed a few things taken care of legally and I really didn't know where to start. Anna was so knowledgable about exactly what I needed to do and how she could help me. I was calling her with questions all the time and she was always so helpful and kept telling me to call her if I had any other questions! I recommend Anna to all my friends and family anytime someone needs legal advice as she is the best attorney I have come across.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Diego, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
