Brett Peterson represented me when I was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. When we first met, I was impressed by his knowledge and experience with cases of my type, and even more impressed by the fact that he clearly listened to and understood my concerns and what I desired in terms of outcome. Throughout the course of his representation, Brett clearly communicated where things stood, and what the options were. My instinct on meeting him was that he was an honest and professional attorney that I could trust. That has certainly been the case, and I would recommend him to anyone seeking representation for a personal injury case.

I never needed a lawyer until I was rear ended and it was so clear cut who was at fault I thought I was able to handle it myself but after about a year I decided it was too much stress work and hassle so I shopped around and I was looking for the lowest price attorney which I think was Brett and I'm glad I found him so down to earth humble and a great office environment because it's just basically him and the secretary you will deal with which is very comforting well he handled everything made all the Timely calls and appointments even offering us rides when we needed it. He's such a nice guy but knows the law even the other side likes him. Lots of experience I would use him again and recommend him highly. He's the type of lawyer that you would want to be friends with afterwards. We ended up settling in mediation so I didn't get a chance to see him go to trial which would be a good idea to do if you can before you hire him. Has a very nice office location that's very reassuring and in a nice location. Be sure to go to Pho Xpress right around the corner for a good meal at a reasonable price. So if you ever need a lawyer don't handle it yourself it's a waste of time and one more thing about Brett is you get the feeling he is not a crooked lawyer which is a plus when you are in the right! And the top it all off and I'm not implying it may happen to you but maybe because I was such a good client and we did a lot of the paperwork to a degree he even gave me a percentage of his settlement probably because of the pain and suffering I had to go through and how tight the other side was which was Allstate Insurance. Another reason I was blessed to find him by happenstance was because I was looking for a lawyer who was near me and he was also he always return phone calls right away and emails and he communicated very thoroughly and patiently from the beginning to the end not like some lawyers who are so friendly in the beginning to get you to sign with them but then afterwards they are more colder but not Brett he was very professional and kind to the end. San Diego is blessed to have him living here helping us get a fair trial, Justice and compensation for our pain and suffering. And if I was to share some advice I would say don't use your own credit cards on different doctors like I did searching all over for a cure because the other side will not settle soon enough and you have so many fees and interest that my credit is ruined. I I would recommend just send one group of doctors and just have one bill and that based on contingency of a settlement that would have resulted in so much less stress and problems in my life. There is a really nice place in Hillcrest call fix body group and they handle everything there I went there and should have stayed there to my healing was complete which it never was but then again I had to do a bunch of injections and Kaiser really did me right but they couldn't feel the pain short of major surgery to replace my neck bones with screws and pieces of metal. But now I heard they have new treatment where they will take a cadavers bone and if it's a match can fix your neck which I may still do in the future. Anyways don't drink and drive or get distracted by the radio your cell phone or any other sightseeing please just look ahead all the time and do not tailgate and be prepared for for a car to stop at anytime even on the freeway in the middle of the day in perfect weather. There's no need to speed or tailgate if you do you risk much pain and suffering for yourself or others and in the end it only saves you a few minutes better to be safe than sorry and an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. You will get there when you get there life is too short to have to go through it with pain for the rest of your life!

I have been working the phone the past few days in a attempt to get legal advise and hire a lawyer. The last several offices I called either did not answer their calls or had a receptionist take a message only to never hear from them again. The one or two who did answer my call either had no interest or did not practice in the area I required. Neither offered any advise or a referral. Then I got lucky and gave Brett Peterson a call. Brett did not practice in the area I needed however he spent the last 15 minutes, giving me referrals and advice on how to proceed forward. I appreciate and value Bretts honesty and advise. I will absolutely keep him in mind should I have a need in the future! Thank you Brett!

My boyfriend & I were in a serious car accident last year, we both ended up in the emergency room and spent nearly a week in the hospital. We both missed time from work, were seriously injured, and incurred massive amounts of medical bills. We attempted to research what our next steps should be and had a very challenging time navigating our way. My father reached out to a couple of law offices to see if he could assist us in getting some guidance. When he got in touch with Brett, Brett spent a half hour walking him through the process and provided insight that we had since had no luck in finding. We still were not sure that we wanted to go through with hiring a lawyer, and he did not put any pressure on us to retain his services. After about a month of stress in trying to figure things out by ourselves we gave Brett a call and said that we wanted to move forward, it was the best decision that we could have made. Brett was constantly in contact with us providing updates on getting our bills taken care of, and made sure that we were in the loop during every step. We never had to question where we were or how the process was moving along. Every question that we posed he was able to provide an excellent explanation to and delivered on everything that he promised, and in a very short amount of time. Brett truly provides an exceptional service. I would have never thought of a lawyer as a customer service advocate, but he definitely breaks the mold. Instead of spending the last year stressing, we were able to utilize our energy to just heal physically and emotionally from our trauma. Thank you Brett for everything you did for us, it is an amazing feeling to know now that we have someone to turn to or recommend to our loved ones should they find themselves in this situation.

Like most people who are looking for a personal injury lawyer I didn't know where to start. I ended up calling a lot of lawyers and quickly got a feel for what they were about. Many of them tried to pressure me into filling out paperwork before they would even really hear me out, or worse were not responsive at all. I am glad I gave Brett a call! He listened to my issue and even gave me good advice. Before even bringing up signing anything. He was open and honest and I felt like I could trust him to get me the settlement I deserved. My case was settled quickly and for more than I thought I would get. WAY more then the insurance company offered before I hired Brett! I was never handed off to someone else or ignored. I never felt pressure. When I had any questions he answered it quickly. He also kept me updated so I didn't worry. I normally don't write reviews but I remember how tough it was to find a lawyer that wasn't in it just for themselves. I called a lot of people and did my homework. I recommend him 100%!

My wife of 25 years filed a restraining order against me. I am in my seventies, a retired surgeon, and have never had this kind of legal issue. Ms. Keegan did not start by evaluating my ability to pay but instead listened, clearly comprehended my situation, and agreed to take my case. She is a Jurist with the added outstanding qualities of organization, problem-solving, laser focus, attention, and retention of details, and she responds and adapts to changing circumstances with composure. Her patience elevates her to the highest levels of professionalism, coupled with her analysis, writing, and persuasion skills, will give you great comfort that you are represented by the best.

I was referred to Anna by a friend. I needed some legal forms written up and gone over with me. I was also in somewhat of a hurry. Anna was very thorough in explaining everything to me and she was extremely hardworking. She had the forms ready for me in half the time the other attorneys said it would take. She was also very knowledgable in the matter at hand which made me feel safe and protected. I am very thankful for Anna and if you need legal help she is the best.

I needed a few things taken care of legally and I really didn't know where to start. Anna was so knowledgable about exactly what I needed to do and how she could help me. I was calling her with questions all the time and she was always so helpful and kept telling me to call her if I had any other questions! I recommend Anna to all my friends and family anytime someone needs legal advice as she is the best attorney I have come across.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Diego, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
