I came to Embry Law with a pretty difficult case that I thought could not be won. Mr. Embry and his ENTIRE team really fought hard for me! They were very understanding with how difficult my situation was. They were straightforward with me throughout my entire case but always so empathetic. Embry Law won my case! I am so grateful and blessed to have gone with Embry Law. Mr. Embry and his entire team know what they are doing! After going through my divorce, and being put into a position where I had to go back to court, I decided change attorney’s. I interviewed several attorney’s all over San Diego. Embry Family Law was the perfect fit. Ben, and Cecilia were amazing as my lawyers. Nick, Shyanne, and Daniel were always so easy to get ahold of, get advice from, and schedule meetings with. Ben is extremely knowledgeable in negotiating, and representing his client’s interests. Despite how tense divorce can be, he has a very calming communication style, and makes sure to answer questions, and provide clarity. I appreciate everything Embry Family did for me, and if I have to go back again, I will not hesitate to call them again.

I have been with Embry family law since he took my case in late 2020. I had an extremely difficult fight that had little to NO chance of winning. Due to the difficult circumstances of my story and case I was turned down by multiple top attorneys in the area and by the grace of god Ben without hesitation offered to give it a shot. Prior to Ben I had supervised visitations just moved to New Jersey and my son was in California with his father. Thanks to Ben and his team trusting me and taking my case I now have full custody of my son and he was able to move to New Jersey with me. He fights for the underdog and when you communicate he listens and takes everything into consideration. I trust Ben and his team with my life and I am forever grateful. There are amazing and honest family law attorneys out there and Embry family law is one of them. 🤍🤍🤍🤍

My wife and I decided that it was time to file for shared custody of my son since there was no custody order in place after doing whatever my sons mother wanted for 3 years just to avoid conflict, I was planning to represent my self but since my sons mother decided to get a lawyer so did I in order to have a better advocate for my self, the staff is extremely friendly, Ben and his team represented us to the best of their ability through the course of almost 11 months, this was dragged on longer then expected due to my sons mother being difficult. There was a time were we were misrepresented by Cecelia (were she had to substitute for Ben) I believe it was mis understanding during our Ex Parte , luckily we were following our temporary court order at the time it did not affect anything my sons mother wanted to stop us from leaving the state of California on a roadtrip, its understandably that she probably did not have enough time to review our file do to it being an ex parte, the only other situation was where we were supposed to resubmit documentation and my wife had to reach out to them on Thursday October 5th to find out the deadline was Monday October 9th, luckily we did submit on time but it was a little annoying they weren't more on top of it since we worked during the times they were open and my wife had to help me with all the documents while she was on her break at work. But even if we didn't file on time, I don't think that it would have made any difference due to the Court its self since there was no consequence for the other party not filling all the documents necessary. Besides that one time they were very timely with reaching out for all documentation. But though out almost a whole year thous are the only "mistakes". I do not believe that I couldn't have better represented my self due to my shy nature, this was defiantly a learning experience and help my wife and I learn what rights I have with my son. Its defiantly a little more pricy then other attorneys buy you defiantly get what you pay for, and in this case it was a good thing. Thank you very much to the WHOLE team.

My wife and I are highly appreciative of Ben and his entire team. They assisted us with a Move-Away order for my step daughter to move out of state with me, along with the Termination of Rights and Adoption of her. It was a long and arduous process being in the military and re-stationed outside of California throughout the process. To have to work with the California court from across the country was a nightmare but Ben and his Team helped us along the way and I couldn't be happier that we were able to accomplish it all. Thank you so much for the support and assistance throughout everything!

My wife of 25 years filed a restraining order against me. I am in my seventies, a retired surgeon, and have never had this kind of legal issue. Ms. Keegan did not start by evaluating my ability to pay but instead listened, clearly comprehended my situation, and agreed to take my case. She is a Jurist with the added outstanding qualities of organization, problem-solving, laser focus, attention, and retention of details, and she responds and adapts to changing circumstances with composure. Her patience elevates her to the highest levels of professionalism, coupled with her analysis, writing, and persuasion skills, will give you great comfort that you are represented by the best.

I was referred to Anna by a friend. I needed some legal forms written up and gone over with me. I was also in somewhat of a hurry. Anna was very thorough in explaining everything to me and she was extremely hardworking. She had the forms ready for me in half the time the other attorneys said it would take. She was also very knowledgable in the matter at hand which made me feel safe and protected. I am very thankful for Anna and if you need legal help she is the best.

I needed a few things taken care of legally and I really didn't know where to start. Anna was so knowledgable about exactly what I needed to do and how she could help me. I was calling her with questions all the time and she was always so helpful and kept telling me to call her if I had any other questions! I recommend Anna to all my friends and family anytime someone needs legal advice as she is the best attorney I have come across.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Diego, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
